This just might be my favorite FUTURES END issue. Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti know how to cook up crazy and fun adventures for Harley. Having them joined by the regular team of Chad Hardin and Alex Sinclair is the icing on the cake. It's a great issue with bizarre situations but we wouldn't expect any less from Harley. A massive thumbs up for HARLEY QUINN and her sabotaged wedding this week. Now going back into the past 5 years, I cant wait to see what craziness the Joker happened to be watching while he kept tabs on her. Harley Quinn: Futures End #1 is an excellent, funny comic as usual. The writing, the characterization, the fantastic humor, and the artwork all come together into making a truly special and hilarious experience. Series regular Chad Hardin is the artist here, with Alex Sinclair on colours John J. Hill on letters and Amanda herself on the cover with Paul Mounts. As I've said, Chad Hardin's art didn't often rub me the right way on the main series, but with this one-shot he has done something much different and he's made it an issue worth picking up for the art alone. His Harley is much more restrained in her antics this time around and that allows the artist to really focus on the characterwork. Sure, there are some inconsistencies in Harley here and there, but such are too few to really make a difference towards the negative side. For the most part, Chad gets Harley right and his interpretation of Joker is great as well. Plus Alex Sinclair delivering some amazing colours as usual, which is not a surprise at all! For every reader expecting the Futures End continuity to get wiped away with a quirky twist of fate (or time travel, as is fashionable these days), Harley Quinn: Futures End treats canon with about as much reverence as it deserves. Where else are you going to find a talking dead beaver speaking to the hero from inside the stomach of a crocodile? Equal parts bloody and bloody funny, it's the antidote to event fatigue. Overall, Harley Quinn Future's End #1 was a very enjoyable read that brought the laughs. It's nothing short of what we've come to expect from this series. Tie ins should do something to feel a part of the bigger story but really be just another issue. At least it needs to feel that way. Having a writing style mesh with ink and color so effortlessly is a hard feat that Harley's dark humor pulls off with grace-" it makes the read that much more immersive. Read Full Review

Chad Hardin returns to the series, giving it a nice visual boost in the process. Hardin's expressive facial work and semi-cartoony figures have always suited the series well, and only more so now that Harley's surroundings have become that much weirder. Read Full Review

This issue of Harley Quinn is a fun read. It's a throwaway book in terms of continuity but you probably won't regret picking it up if you do. The Art is what saved this issue, DC if you are putting on some kind of Universe changing event have all the writers on board first. The story was scored low simply because it was not a story that did anything for me, it add no value to the universe. If this issue didn't happen nothing would be different. I need to feel some kind of connection to the story and I did not. I thought the story was more geared towards Harley's Jokerverse not DC's normal Futures End arc that is happening now. Generally speaking I am the type of reader that likes a story first and the art second, to the point that as long as the art is not confusing or distracting that I wont let it affect my reading experience. In this case though, the art is absolutely the best thing about this issue. The high point of the story for me was the almost beautiful visual of Harley in her (first of two) wedding gown, which out of nowhere pays homage to Disney princesses as well as seemingly to Pepe Le Pew. In the end though, the entire issue pretty much an all-around disappointment, with a plot so inane that it is hard for me to fathom how even a Harley Quinn fan might find it entertaining. Even on the surface the promise of a wedding between the two seemed like a fun and promising idea, especially for a potential future time line, but there were so many other ways to go with it that this just feels like a dud. Wasn't terrible. It had funny moments. It was very wordy and was not written that well with nothing real interesting. Honestly, if it wasn't for some cool shots of Harley and the Joker together I wouldn't have been into it.

Not great. Just ok. Silly.
