As several Rebirth titles struggle to find their footing and perfect balance of what old and new fans want, Suicide Squad #8 hits it out of the park. This is the DC Comics everyone wants to read and experience. This is what we want. Read Full Review
Now named Caitlin Snow, to match the character from the Flash tv series, Killer Frost is the latest inmate sent to Belle Reve, and the newest recruit for the team. We follow Frost as she enters the prison, gets introduced to the other members of the team, and has her first meeting with Amanda Waller. Its not a bad story in any way, but neither tale in the issue really felt like an introduction to the upcoming crossover. I would have been more pleased with this issue if no mention had been made of the Justice League at all. Read Full Review
Suicide Squad is one of those titles you know what you're getting every issue "some over the top action, some laughs and the oddest collection of characters in the DCU. There's a reason Suicide Squad is one of DC's easiest reads on stands. Read Full Review
With an end to ‘The Black Vault', you do wonder where we go next after Suicide Squad #8. This was an exciting way to kick off Suicide Squad's first chapter. As a prelude we didn't quite get to what creates this upcoming ‘Justice League Vs Suicide Squad‘ crossover, though nonetheless this is something to look forward to. I mean they did just take down General Zod of all beings to have the misfortune of running into. Read Full Review
Suicide Squad #8 is a strong issue from beginning to end. Filled with Rob Williams’ usual outstanding writing, the funny moments will make you laugh and the action will have you on the edge of your seat. As has become standard during his run, Williams leaves the more introspective writing for the backup story, which unlike all the previous ones, focuses on a member who has yet to make her formal debut as a member of Task Force X. Jim Lee continues to prove that he is one of the best in the business, and that his art is best served when action is everywhere. With the Black Vault behind us and the much anticipated Justice League and Suicide Squad ahead, it is safe to say that Suicide Squad is one of the best books to come out of DC’s Rebirth initiative and worth eagerly awaiting every issues release. This was the most fun I've had with this comic. I didn't realize how bonkers-insane this issue sounded until I was recapping it" Seriously, recap this issue to a friend, and see if you can get through it without laughing. Read Full Review
For me, Suicide Squad is the book that will please any comics fan. Considering the action, character work, humor, and multiple plot threads, there's hardly anything left to be desired (except for maybe some romance, but that appears to be in the works). If you're a comic fan and you're not reading this run, then you're doing yourself a disservice. Read Full Review
"The Black Vault" has had its major ups and downs over the course of eight issues, but the story reaches a mostly satisfying conclusion here. The final battle against General Zod is entertaining and marked by several great character moments. Jim Lee finishes out his run in solid form, though there is a disjointed quality to the visuals at times. And the backup feature serves as an interesting, if hardly essential, introduction for Killer Frost. Read Full Review
This is a good, but not great final issue to the first story arc. There's a definitive resolution, and a lot of fun along the way, but there's a confusing scene that doesn't make much sense. That cheapens the conclusion. The backup is alright, but isn't as interesting as previous backups in this series, delivering a more cursory reveal than anything else. Read Full Review
This is not as good as it has been. This is a transition issue and in general, those leave the reader wanting something. Sure, it is nice to have Boomerang back, so there is some resolution there, but overall, this was not as fulfilling as I was hoping it would be. Still, it is better than a lot of other books. I wouldn't call the ending to this story predictable, but that's because I didn't understand about half of it. The other half was fairly stupid and contrived. Some good dialogue makes me think there's a good Suicide Squad comic lurking within, yearning to be free. I'm hoping that after the space constraints (presumably placed by Jim Lee's drawing schedule) for this series are lifted, we can get a story where they're not running around the inside of a facility for five straight issues. Cool start to the Justice League vs. Suicide Squad run, as well as being a good finish to the Black Vault arc. I am still not 100% sure how a certain character returned, but I will accept it and move on with the story. Zod was a great starting villain to unite the team, with Killer Frost being a great addition.
Comic Book Review (8/10) "Great"
Suicide Squad #8 "Going Sane Part 4: I Believe in Miracles/ Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad Prelude: Warm Heart"
Writer: Rob Williams
Penciller: Jim Lee/ Giuseppe Camuncoli
Plot: A sane Harley Quinn, Colonel Rick Flag, Killer Croc, and Enchantress must race against the clock to General Zod's cell to deactivate the yellow sun energy from reviving him. Meanwhile, Hack discovers that Captain Boomerang's spirit is trapped in the digital space. Killer Frost also joins the Suicide Squad, but can she be trusted...?
Probably the biggest things of this issue were the return of Captain Boomerang and the introduction of Killer Frost. It's a nonsensical issue with plenty of zany action and a ti more
