In short, Slott and Immonen and the creative team have worked really hard to make the balance between Spider-Man story and crossover story work within their framework, but there isn't enough to the main story other than the shock value. This was a good Spidey/Ock set up for a clash. A good S.E. crossover exposition of details neglected in the main series. The respected big cast get fair amount of soap opera facetime. Strong art effort.

Before he Can Even with this Hydra mess, Spidey has to have a serious Shanghai showdown with Doc Ock for the soul of PI. Why didn't somebody grab the Parker Industries characters and Cloak & Dagger and do a Shanghai miniseries after Dan Slott set them up? Bits of this issue fall flat because they're begging us to care about the Shanghai folks and it just ain't gonna happen. Everything else here is working great, though. The visuals are impressive, as are the Secret Empire links and the burgeoning Bobbi romance. Mr. Slott is a bit indulgent with Doc Ock's gloating, but he's got his reasons: The details make it clear that he (the writer) has been planning this revenge for several years.

I have to get this off my chest!! Marvel quit with these damn events every other week! I'm not going to buy into them, they are all garbage. Quit interfering with your normal books. The first few pages of this book are abysmal. Peter leaves mid encounter with Doc only to get to DC decide Cap is to strong and then come running back to Doc? 1000% unnecessary and a awful interruption to what is a good arc. Now that's off my chest I really thought this was a good issue. The build up of the showdown between Spidey and Doc was riveting and Slott really captured the tension & feeling of just how much is at stake! The art is phenomenal! Really looking forward to the next issue! Just please stop this damn event overdose marvel! **my Review score is 100% based on the actual Doc Oc arc not the SE pages. This issue deals with Peter trying to build a last defence for Parker Industries, which is pretty by the numbers. It sets the story elements in place for what looks like a more thrilling next issue. What elevates it here is the phenomenal art of Stuart Immonen, who somehow seems to be getting better by the issue.

Solid issue. I didn't find too much wrong with it. The art continues to impress while the story is just never taken to that next level. I really am enjoying the superior octopus vs. Peter dynamic and how this could be the end of Parker Industries. We will see what happens next!

For a linewide crossover tie-in, this issue wasn't bad at all. Secret Empire was a big factor, but the focus never deviated from Spider-Man.

This was a huge step back from the previous issue. First we have a few pages basically retelling some stuff from Secret Empire, and then after that the story becomes stale. While the showdown between Spidey and Ock helped a bit, it was decent at best. Hoping for this to pull back in the next one...
