Avengers #65 continues to show that there isn't a comic as epic today. In one issue, we see the rise of the Avenger Prime. That's at first unbelievable, but once told, you realize it's a natural development of the Avenger's greatest villain. The famous phrase, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain," is at work here, only in reverse. How incredibly apt and cool. Read Full Review

Avengers #65 delivers readers the tale of how Avengers Prime came to be who he is. While the artwork and colors were good as usual, the story was very lacking. The origin story of this version of Loki is good on paper, but it wasn't pulled off in its execution. Overall, the comic was not as thrilling or compelling as it could've been. It will never cease to be a delight to watch Javier Garrn depict Celestials and grand scales of the Marvel mythos, but the framing in The Avengers #65 robs it of any significance while offering more narrative forgotten in the build to this climax. Read Full Review
This issue plays to Aaron's strengths of writing the Thor corner of the universe. It's good. I can't (read: I can) wait for the mindless action to continue next issue.
As someone who has really enjoyed jaskn Aaron's run on the avengers I admittedly have not liked this final story. Honestly I have continued to pick up the issues because I always have the avengers on my pull list and didn't want to be missing any issues from this volume. If it wasn't one of the books I collect I'd have probably dropped it when this arc started. However, this issue was a pleasant surprise! While the story overall still hasn't really been working for me I really enjoyed this issue. I really hope the rest of the arc will be similar to this issue because while not mind blowing this one was rather good
It's very fair to say this is a decent issue but the road to get here was marred with long, useless stories and wasted opportunities or just lazy story telling. Javier Garron does an outstanding job as usual.
I'm still here since we're so close to the end and I can't wait to stop after 4.5 years of this miserable crap. I just can't quit this close to the end.
to be honest, this issue wasnt that bad at all. Interesting to see Avengers Prime backstory.
Avenger Prime's story gets told with decent talent, particularly in the art. But neither the premise nor the execution are good enough to outweigh the bigger problems, like this flashback throwing the whole story into a holding pattern or the fact that every significant development in the "Avengers Assemble" arc has been painfully predictable.
The final page "MORE AVENGERS!!!" certainly reads like lampshading, because this series is already suffocating under piles of one dimensional variant characters, but one gets the sense that another bucketful being dumped onto the pile is somehow supposed to crank the Awesome up to 11. It's not; it's more like when you say a word over and over, it loses meaning.
Way to go Aaron making Bendis' Superman look like a masterpiece.
