Feb 24, 2021Overall while this issue had its problems and seemed a bit jumbled, for the most part it was a really good read with some beautiful moments. Also what is the Shadow King up too!?? Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - David Harth
Feb 24, 2021New Mutants #16 does a great job with the characters, but the plots are all over the place. Perhaps Ayala is trying to say something about the ADHD generation with the way plots keep jumping around seemingly at random. Ayala's plots have a lot of potential, but there's just too much stuffed into this issue, and the story feels like it's lost its focus. Reis's art can be good, but it's definitely an acquired taste. New Mutants has a lot of promise, and this issue is okay. There's just way too much going on. Read Full Review

I feel like I'm getting repetitive with this creative team but...Ayala and Reis are awesome together! New Mutants #16 continues the trend of great character moments and interactions as well as moving the various plot threads along; giving the main players a chance to shine in their own way. Seriously, it's pretty impressive how easy this writer makes it look to cram so much into one issue. Ayala's first three issues of NM have felt very Claremont-ian and I am all in for it. To other X-Men writers: this is how you do a team book!

Ayala was losing me at first but as the issue kept going she pulled it off and made me enjoy it very much! Although it might feel all over the place, it still worked for me. It's nice comfort food that I can't find in Hickman's book when he goes big ideas and loses small touch like this book is doing. Rod Reis on art being penciler, inker and colorist is masterclass!! He changes and plays around with so much that it took me a while to read because I keep gawking at his style.

This was actually really enjoyable. It's juggling a lot of plot threads, but I'm invested in them all.

Didn't had strong feelings about the story itself, but the art is so stunning it didn't affected my opinion on the issue itself. Certainly wish they focused more on each plot instead of doing this low dosage each issue. Hope this won't continue for long.

The New Mutants' many storylines all ratchet forward: The Shadow King is doing creepy stuff with kids, Mirage and Karma go on an Otherworld rescue quest, and Rahne finds herself abandoned in a vulnerable moment. This is a wide, character-driven ensemble story. Where the last issue left me feeling lost at sea, though, now I'm caring about what happens to the characters. That's a respectable achievement in storytelling, even if I still find the art roughly-finished and the prose none too memorable.

New Mutants Volume: 4, Issue: 16 "One Step Behind" Publisher: Marvel @marvel Writer: Vita Ayala @definitelyvita Artist: Rod Reis @rodreis Letters: Travis Lanham Cover Artist: Christian Ward @cjwardart The New Mutants have taken it upon themselves to guide the next generation of Mutant. But another has also stepped up to claim this responsibility, the dangerous Shadow King has taken a particular interest in the youth of Krakoa. While Rahne struggles with puzzling information regarding her son, Karma and Dani journey through Otherworld in search of a wayward Mutant and find themselves prisoners of the Holy Republic of Fae. The artwork of this series is truly unique and incredibly well done. As a sign of good writing, I'm genui more
