Strange (2022) #4 |
Jul 30, 2022 |
Fantastic series! Strange #4 is another triumph for Jed MacKay! Love Black Cat and love Moonknight but Strange, Doctor Strange and Strange Academy always come first. As I was reviewing the latest Marvel comics catalog, I saw a cover for Strange #7 which means the run is NOT finishing with the next issue #5. I hope Clea crushes and destroys the blasphemy cartel and using the Eye of Aggamoto on Wong will reveal whatever memory was blocked in his head. The artwork is splendid and I have no idea why other reviewers here are complaining about all the artwork. Umar is always fun and I loved her comment about "that fool Mordo," when they actually hooked up for awhile ruling the Dark Dimension however short that was. I give it a 10 and certainly Clea and Umar are drawn as 10s! :) |
Strange Academy (2020) #18 |
Jul 1, 2022 |
YAY!! I just bought and read Strange Academy Issue #18. It really was.... Spoiler alert!! Continue reading at your own peril. ... A bit of a let down. Of course it had to be that the ring Doyle gave Emily is messing with her mind and gravitating her to guide everyone to a whole new dimension - THE DARK dimension. With all of the rebellious students hiding in Doctor Strange's Sanctum Santorum (not the room of requirement?), I would have thought that Wong or Clea would have stumbled across them by now. Especially with Umar the Unrelenting coming to dinner and the blasphemy cartel launching an attack in the entirely different Strange saga. Artwork is cool and I even got the variant issue with the big werewolf dog on it. I think it is supposed to be one of the new students introduced in the last few issues. Howie the werewolf. Is he related to other Marvel characters? Eager now for Strange Issue #4. But let's all go and discuss this last Strange Academy issue. They plan to start again at another Issue #1 but I have no idea when. |

Strange (2022) #3 |

Strange series is just getting better and better. Clea's final line "My Mother is coming to dinner," has me breathless for the next issue. I have been waiting for Umar to show yp in Strange Academy to maybe check on Doyle's progress. Come to think of it, I am eager to see Clea arrive at Strange Academy to take command and have her chat with Doyle. Of course, McKay and staff always do a splendid job with art, lettering and story. Even more eager for the eventual return of Doctor Strange but for now Clear is fun and dare I say even sexy! :) |

Strange Academy (2020) #16 |
Feb 24, 2022 |
I always enjoy Strange Academy and can only hope they wrap all of the plotlines in the next two issues. Is it really ending after issue #18? The artistry, writing and plot is amazing and fun as always. It is hard for me to feel sympathy for Calvin. I grew up in Special Ed classes, especially in high school in the early 1980s. Naturally I was surrounded by atypical students and knew all of the "stoner" kids. Drugs, alcohol or "fixes" of any sort have always been repugnant to me so I can only hope Calvin finds redemption and forgiveness. AWESOME fun! |

The Death of Doctor Strange: Strange Academy Presents #1 |
Nov 6, 2021 |
I have always loved (lusted) the Enchantress! Artwork was AWESOME. We get a peek at every student, and as always a fulfilling Marvel Plot. I have just one question. WHO are Howie and Heide? I have never seen them before in previous Strange Academy issues. Are they new students or previously unfeatured students? |

The Death of Doctor Strange #2 |
Oct 21, 2021 |
SPOILER ALERTS! YAY!! As a longtime Doctor Strange fan, I LOVED seeing some of the returning characters here! Tiboro, Aggamion, and DEFINITELY Clea and Umar!! Always love strong female sorceresses. With the 1962 Doctor Strange, I thoroughly enjoy his "lickspittle" and "Zounds" comments thought it is hard to see him not recognize everyone present. Artwork is Always incredible. McKay is AWESOME with Black Cat and Moonknight. Am eager to see more. The three mothers are gross, vicious and disgusting as they should be. With Umar and Clea around we do not need any more, dare I say it?, "sexy" sorceresses. Definitely a ten here. |

Strange Academy (2020) #12 |
Oct 4, 2021 |
I always enjoy Strange Academy. I hope it continues even with the titanic changes in the Doctor Strange saga. Will the 1970 Doc continue with the school? I hope so. Meanwhile Issue #12 was fun and filled with relatable teenage angst. Calvin was extracated extracated and Dessy showed her true powers! The artwork is always amazing and this mag always has me eager for more. With the first 6 issues in a Graphic Novel, will they now have the second six issues in another graphic novel? Always love Howard the Duck and I hope he d sitcks around the school somehow. Splendid job writers, artists, letterers and evenryone involved. |

Strange Academy (2020) #11 |
Jun 9, 2021 |
Seeing some of the other reviewers here I do not understand their negativity about Issue #11. It seems an interesting whodunit with Calvin's cloak revealing itself as a symbiote aka like venom etc. The artists, writers, and letterers for the issue was terrific as usual and the next issues are all set up. Some unenlightened people seem to get their dander up whenever Howard the Duck appears. He is funny, logical, and I always enjoy his views on soplving cases. Already eager for Issue #12. |

Black Cat (2020) #6 |
May 12, 2021 |
GREAT Mag! Great story. I have been a fan of Felicia Hardy for yewars since Spiderman 258 when Petey's symbiote suit webs Felicia to stop her from leaving. I just wish the artists could be brave enough to present distinctive boobs and anatomically correct features. No I am not asking for naked. But the art of Felicia sometimes looks unfinished. Political correctness always wins I know. 9 out of 10. |

Strange Academy (2020) #10 |
May 5, 2021 |
YAY! Just finished reading Issue #10. Talk about cosmic soap opera. Spoiler Alert! The Enchantress really gets around. She is the mother of both Irik and Alvi with a palace guard AND also Ove with Namor the SubMariner. And here I thought Captain Marvel with Doctor Strange was the surprise bomb of the last 30 days. Interesting pair up with Toth and Shaley. Of course the dynamics between Irik and Doyle keep improving and I am glad to see Doyle willing to keep Irik's and Alvi's parents a secret. As usual, the artwork, coloring and lettering are all splendid. Wish they could have shown us even more and I am already eager for the next issue! Doyle and Emily are actually cute together and someday when they are both Sorcerer Supremes of Earth andf the Dark Dimension respectively, we might see a marriage alljance or a bitter, spurned lover war between dimensions. Charging ahead and eager for more. Will we get a Strange Academy Giant Sized Annual issue soon? I hope so. :) |

Captain Marvel (2019) #27 |
Mar 30, 2021 |
This may sound Strange - pun intended. I am a HUGE Doctor Strange fan and am always looking for good plotlines with him as a guest star in other Marvel titles. It has been a long time since I have followed Captain Marvel and I did enjoy the new movie recently. Captain Marvel #27 got me hooked on the run and I have added this to my "pull list." The artwork, coloring, lettering and all the images are terrific. As I have been reading comics since 1970, I miss some of the lovelier renditions of ladies that they had in the past but I would be given nasty labels if I said more. For me .. I love PLOT and writing! Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers is the perfect girlfriend for Doctor Strange. Stretching decades: Victoria Bentley was first...then gone, Clea has been around a very long time and was a good disciple until she came into her own. Now Clea's memory has been wiped clean, Morgana Blessing was simply too ordinary a human and other ladies paired with Doc have not been anywhere near his equal, as Doctor Strange has no peer. Kanna recently had potential but she simply could not hold her own against Doc. Doc and Black Cat have become friends recently during the King in Black Saga but Felicia Hardy again is a bit reduced next to Doc. NOW we finally have the right heroine for Doc! Captain Marvel (yes - I still remember the original Captain Marvel who was a he first with a green and white costume, then new outfit with silver hair, then gold hair, and then HE died of cancer) Carol Danvers, is powerful, witty, edgy, and can easily fight alongside or even toe to toe with Doctor Strange. Captain Marvel has one more advantage over previous candidates as she is not begging or wanting to be Doctor Strange's disciple. Carol Danvers has her own mission with protecting earth with or without Doctor Strange and is quite capable of doing so. Rock On! Eager for more! |

Strange Academy (2020) #9 |
Mar 10, 2021 |
This series is always amazing fun and I really enjoyed this story. It is nice to see Calvin and Doyle hitting it off. Was Calvin dreaming or did his jacket slay one or two of his foster parents? Doyle and Calvin handled the Mindless Ones easily though I was wondering if these were "new" Mindless Ones or the ones working at Strange Academy? Scores for plot and story all around. Artwork, coloring, and lettering are always flawless. Will be hard to wait almost two months for the next issue. Cheers! :) |

Strange Academy First Class |
Feb 21, 2021 |
Yes - I am a Doctor Strange Fanatic. Yes - I have been following every issue of Strange Academy since the beginning and been having a BLAST! Yes - I have left detailed reviews for every issue so far. So why should I care about the first collection graphic novel? While hardly anyone here has noticed, I started the Strange Academy Fan Group on Facebook. When I first heard of this first Graphic Novel, I found a really good and fun You Tube video review done by a father and two young daughters. This graphic novel is the perfect way for anyone who has been lagging behind (or even not yet read any of the Strange Academy saga) to easily catch up with what is going on. A quick trip to your local comic books store, $14.00 plus tax, and getting issues #7 and #8 will get you completely caught up. Skottie Young, Humberto Ramos, Edger Delgado and their entire team are presenting a splendid, engrossing and downright FUN story with dramatic, unexpected twists. If you enjoy Doctor Strange, magic, transdimensional stories and interesting characters, your time and money will be well invested. Take my word for it. Or do not take my word for it. Check all this out for yourself! Yes - Issues #7 and #8 are already out and Issue #9 will be out March 10th. Issue #10 will be out May 5th but who is actually keeping track? Me! As one of the oldest Gen Xers (yes I just dated myself as being born in 1965) I have been following Doctor Strange and have been enjoying Strange Academy again as if I was a much younger man. |

Strange Academy (2020) #8 |
Feb 3, 2021 |
Maybe I am too easily pleased. But each issue of Strange Academy just has me waiting for more. SPOILER ALERT This Issue #8 was absolutely terrific! Loved seeing Doyle Dormmamu in therapy for his death and return to life experience. The promise ring Doyle gave Emily was sweet and effective. Always been a fan of Agatha Harkness from the Fantastic Four days and her recent adventures with Scarlet Witch have been terrific! Ms. Harkness is the perfectly stern teacher. The field trip was fun and Iric being vomited up at the climax was very funny! Skottie Young, Humberto Ramos and Edgar Delgato produce such amazing artwork. Skottie Young 's plots and writing has me on the edge of my seat. Arthur Adams did a fine job with a variant of Gus on the cover! Am already eager to read Issue #9 on March 10th. :) |

Strange Academy (2020) #7 |
Jan 27, 2021 |
YAY!! Just finished reading Issue #7. Glad that Doyle Dormammu was brought back from death and I have to admit I saw this coming a mile away. My theory is that Doctor Voodoo went back to the Fortune Teller that absorbed some of Doyles essance way back in Issue #3 and revealed in issue #4. At the risk of becoming religious, did Skottie Young and company just become Christian apologist writers such as CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien? By resurrecting Doyle Dormammu, is he now a religious icon? OK, I will stop. Sleeping Beauty is one of my very favorite Disney Animation films! Even Beauty and the Beast ends with the kiss - so very important to teenagers. As a hopeless romantic who has always been regarded as homily my whole life (Let me admit, my crooked stroke mouth I had when I was born gives me a lifetime membership in the creepy club. No need to encourage me otherwise), endings like this give hope to us all. Especially me. Meanwhile the artwork, coloring and everything else is VERY spot on. Humberto Ramos and their staff have delivered a memorable imagery which is why I find this whole saga so amazing! |

King In Black: Namor #1 |
Jan 12, 2021 |
As a lifelong Namor the SunMariner fan (Pronounced Sub Mariner and not SubMareener) I have been thrilled with this King In Black tie in. The past connections with Krang, Attuma, Lady Dorma are all very well thought out and I LOVE the underwater artwork. Yes - the tie in to King In Black with the Oil Slick Villains is only hinted at in the beginning but I expect this to develop more as we go. I am very excited to see more. :) |

King In Black: Namor #2 |
Jan 12, 2021 |
OK - As a lifelong Namor Submariner fan, I have always been starving for more. The tie in for the King In Black saga is finally starting to clear and the artwork is phenomenal. This "travelling" issue is important but I hope the payoff really connects and helps defeat the Oil Slick enemies. The only big miss is the name "Unforgettable Stone?" How about Memory Storm or Remembrance Stone? Fun to see Namor as a hotshot teenager with Krang and Attuma. :) |

Strange Academy (2020) #6 |
Dec 9, 2020 |
As usual, I was swept away by Issue #6 and am already eagerly awaiting Issue #7. The artwork, coloring and presentation by Humberto Ramos and their whole team was splendid. Each panel presented an almost 3D image of what was happening to students, teachers and and transitions. I also enjoyed the fonts depicting different characters so I had no trouble following the group discussions. Now to plot. As Marvel has been endlessly demonstrating that "with great power comes great responsibility" and now "using magic has a price." After the events in this issue, the faculty members have a lot of explaining to do for the students about why their magic costs so much outside the school grounds. While our resident Zombie Zoe was outed, she and Toth managed to delay the Hollow bad guys so everyone could regroup and get away. When the cavalry does arrive, Emily Bright has launched everything but her soul into avenging Doyle and the other students are certainly in need of recharge. Normally I would be weeping copiously for Doyle Dormammu not only for his untimely death, but now also wondering how Daddy Dormammu would react to the news. Would Dormammu blame Dr. Strange for letting his kid die and charge in to destroy the earth...let alone the school? Would Aunt Umar help her brother do this? Would cousin Clea suddenly get her memory back and help Dr. Strange defend the earth from Dormammu and Umar? YET,I remember clearly how in issues #3 and #5 Doyle's encounter with the fortune-teller Ms. Hazel ended up with a piece of Doyle's life force stuck in her giving her repeated visions of what she saw in him. So in the spirit of "let's bring another character back to life," that Marvel has done numerous times, I do not count Doyle out yet. Love the Doyle dynamic with Emily that has been built up so killing him off forever would have repercussions for wasted time and effort. I predict Doyle will get the piece of him back from Ms. Hazel and he will return. This Issue #6 was FANTASTIC! I have been enjoying Strange Academy even more than the King In Black Saga that everyone is supposed to be oooing and aaaahing about now. Strange Academy rules and I give this issue a 10 out of 10! :) |

Strange Academy (2020) #5 |
Nov 11, 2020 |
YAY!! I finally digested Issue #5 and I am always amazed what FUN this saga is! Best issue yet. For action it is very exciting how they have been building to the big battle sequence expected in Issue #6 next month (12/9/20). SPOILER ALERT!! Read more at your own peril! After the way Miss Hazel treated Emily Bright and Doyle Dormammu back in Issue #3, I almost believe she is getting what she deserves with a piece of Doyle trapped within her. Perhaps this will save Doyle later? I already posted covers for issues #6 and #7 so we do have what many review critics claimed was no "overarching story." Doctor Voodoo did promise assistance for Ms. Hazel so hopefully her visions will be sorted soon. The argument between Dr. Strange and Doctor Voodoo was most revealing. Is Dr. Strange recruiting "a secret army," for an as yet unrevealed purpose? Will Jericho Voodoo aid or oppose Dr. Strange with his plans? Or am I jumping to convulsions? Loved getting more of German's backstory. I have heard of Nahual's in Mexican myth before but never so detailed or visualized. Since I am a hopeless romantic, I think German and Zoe Laveau (Yes - I spelled it right for once) would be an interesting couple and it is nice to see Doyle and Emily connecting. "We're off to see the Wizard," into the swamp to rescue Calvin. Sending Gus back for help was a brilliant idea as his giant strides could get him back the fastest. Am ALL set for issue #6 and I just only read #5 once. Yup. Am hooked. HELP! LOL! |

Strange Academy (2020) #4 |
Oct 28, 2020 |
Issue #4 was GREAT fun! As usual the artwork was AWESOME and Skottie Young delivers a nice build uo to the big story with cover descriptions of Issues #5 and #6. I understand completely why Zoe wants to keep her secret and Dessy was a bit heavy handed with her actions. Hoping to see more of the Hollow bad guys and I always LOVE Bats appearing. Who is the captive behind the door in the basement? Is it the creature where Doctor Strange cooped up his fears or is baron Karl Mordo traoped there again? Excited for more! :) |

Strange Academy (2020) #3 |
Oct 1, 2020 |
I am very pleased with Issue #3! Scottie Young, Humberto Ramos and the entire staff/editors did a fantastic job with it. Here is what I loved about the issue. 1. The Ancient One wearing a "Strange Academy" T Shirt? I WANT ONE! XXL! Maybe with a cover image from any of the three issues out. 2. Plot was Fantastic! Emily getting doused with rainbow fluid had me laughing for minutes. Was hoping Emily would have consented to the reading in the museum and it seems both Irik and Doyle are interested in her. Zoe likes Irik. I could make other plot observations. The bullies got just what they deserved without any real damage and Alvi is definitely jealous of Emily's abilities. Nice to hear Toth speaking for once. Could not Toth and Gus transform themselves to roughly human size and appearance to mingle with the group? Emily and Zoe were right. The outing felt weird without them and Gus could have suddenly grown to full size to scare the bully muggers away. 3. Coloring, lettering, images were AWESOME!! Loved the idea of all the magic glow pets in color with 'reality' people just in black and white. The Eye of Aggamotto sees ALL! Is it pronounced Agga motto or Awga Mowtoe? 4. Recipes were FUN but I wish we could have had more comic pages. Maybe a weblink next time "for recipes" I caught many references in the recipes. Love the Mhuruuk Wizard order! Bottom Line 9.8 out of 10! Will round up to 10. I WANT A STRANGE ACADEMY T SHIRT!! :) |

Strange Academy (2020) #1 |
Sep 6, 2020 |
When I first heard of this series I thought to myself, "Oh No! Not another Harry Potter Magic School," but I could not have been more mistaken. Issue 1 was splendid with the artwork, coloring, lettering and engaging plot that makes me eager for more. Each one of the students has vast potential to eventually become supreme sorcerers within their homes and the teachers are pulled judiciously from ALL over the Marvel multiverse. I know Dr. Strange wiped Clea's memory of himself and their love to please the Eternals in another saga but only Clea is missing from the roster. Will Baron Mordo somehow show up? or Even Dormammu? Very excited to see more issues. |

Strange Academy (2020) #2 |
Sep 6, 2020 |
This saga just keeps getting better and better for me. Issue #2 was pure FUN! The artwork, lettering, coloring and especially the plot are splendid and our editors certainly cover an amazing amount of ground in one issue. As a former teacher, I LOVED how Irik and Doyle got banished to Hell for an afternoon and watching them work together to survive. Hope Gus finds a way to shrink himself down so he is not always just peering through a window. What is Gus's room like in the dorm? Am counting the days until 9/30/20 for issue #3. At least Issues #4 and #5 are scheduled for October and November respectively so no more waiting months for the next issue. To the editorial staff: You have me hooked. Permission to publish and I always hope for a No-Prize. :) |

Doctor Strange (1974) #62 |
Sep 3, 2020 |
This Doctor Strange Saga is one of my favorites (Issues #58-62). The artwork is impeccable, the print is fantastic, the coloring masterful and the plot ROCKS!! After Dr. Strange has tangled with Dracula for possession of the Darkhold (a spell book left on earth by the demon Cythen), Dr. Strange assembles the A Team for his attempt to destroy ALL of the Vampires: Blade (who we all know), Hannibal King (reluctant vampire and private detective), Francis Drake (the last mortal descendant of Dracula himself) and Wong (who nearly lost his soul to Dracula in Tomb of Dracula #19? will check). In a desperate bid for time, Dr. Strange teleports the Darkhold to the abandoned Castle Mordo and then it becomes a race for who will get there first. This story later effects Stephan Strange's brother, Morgana Blessing, and Sara Wolfe, who serve useful parts in the story arc. GREAT reads and GREAT FUN!! |
