This book is grin-inducing fun from cover to cover. Read Full Review
After all, half of the appeal of this series is seeing these famous Marvel magic users together. I'm just saying, you don't put Magik and Wanda "The Pretender" Maximoff together in the same building and not have any kind of interaction with them. Either way, after two issues, I think I can say that there is no way you are not going to have fun with Strange Academy. The premise is too good and caters well to everything fans love about magical schools of wizardry. Not to mention, Humberto Ramos' talents are being put to great use, making every panel filled with as much wonder and imagination as the next. Read Full Review
With its lighthearted tone, remarkable art and deep reverence for Marvel canon while also introducing a dozen new characters, this has quickly become one of my favorite comics currently published. We are only two issues in, but I am eagerly anticipating the next issue. Read Full Review
When all is said and done Strange Academy #2 does a great job laying the groundwork for its subsequent issues. I look forward to seeing what sort of magical mischief Young and company have planned for Marvels newest mages to be. Read Full Review
But if I'm up to date, Marvel's not doing any other "teens in hero school" series now. Except for Strange Academy. And they don't need more as long as SA's creative team keeps up this remarkable performance. Dense content, delicious characterization, delightful art, dangerous magic -- Strange Academy delivers just about everything you could want in a Marvel school comic. And a magic school story in general. It's still early days, but two powerful issues back-to-back make this title look like a can't-miss. Read Full Review
Humberto Ramos' art is perfect for this title and these characters. There needs to be a sense of the fantastic and Ramos' art delivers that along with beautifully detailed backgrounds and action. Read Full Review
Overall, this was a solid transition from the first issue of Strange Academy #1. This creative team did not waste the opportunity to set the tone for everything we should look forward to from the academy's curriculum. No disrespect to Harry Potter fans, but this is what it looks like when you are actually being taught magic, and the rules of magic. Read Full Review
Strange Academy #2 is a crazy paced issue where entire scenes and situations are left for a single page or a single panel gag. It's a whirlwind tour of the school and what the kids will be dealing with. It also drops hints as to where things will be going. And it needed to be this way. An issue focusing more on any of the elements would have felt like it dragged on and given other aspects the short end of things. Instead, everyone gets their moments with a lot of humor thrown in. For as crazy as it is, it's a great read and a welcome return of the series. Read Full Review
Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos delivered a fun and unique reading experience with Strange Academy #2. This series feels different from all other comic books that Marvel is currently publishing. This issue gives us greater insight into what Strange Academy will be about as all of the students and staff are given a chance to shine. With such a strong foundation Strange Academy is a comic book series both Marvel and magic-based storytelling fans can get into right away. Read Full Review
If you're searching for monumental action and intriguing plot twists, you won't find them in this issue or possibly this series (as of yet). However, if you're looking for a book for young readers or something to share with your children, this could be tons of fun to read TOGETHER. Read Full Review
Not as strong as Issue 1, but then those second issues rarely are, but still a lot of fun and a feeling that endless possibilities await. Magic, cool cameos, and sneaky funny humour look like being a great combination. Read Full Review
Strange Academy #2 (Young, Ramos, & Delgado) loses some momentum gained from the first issue but holds on to the potential for greatness. This second issue leaves hope that without further interference outside of the creators' control, the title can pick up steam and continue to move forward. Read Full Review
While we don't get introduced to anyone new, we still know the stakes as the students know that the magic classes are dangerous as using magic is fraught with difficulty in the real world and the teachers try to make it as realistic as possible. Read Full Review
Strange Academy #2 seems to be still setting up this new place in the Marvel universe, which is okay. Being something brand new, we do need to get familiar with it. I just hope going forward we get some more plot points and the characters get a little more building up as the series continues to grow. Read Full Review
The students of Strange Academy experience their first day of classes. While this quirky group of misfits learns to get along in order to survive, they begin to suspect that the faculty may be keeping a dangerous secret from them. Read Full Review
Clearly a lot of thought and an adventurous spirit went into this comic and it shows. Every page is bursting with creative energy. I'm just a little worried about some nitpicky things. Read Full Review
"Strange Academy" #2 attempts to do too much, without enticing you to return with a good hook. Read Full Review
This saga just keeps getting better and better for me. Issue #2 was pure FUN! The artwork, lettering, coloring and especially the plot are splendid and our editors certainly cover an amazing amount of ground in one issue. As a former teacher, I LOVED how Irik and Doyle got banished to Hell for an afternoon and watching them work together to survive. Hope Gus finds a way to shrink himself down so he is not always just peering through a window. What is Gus's room like in the dorm? Am counting the days until 9/30/20 for issue #3. At least Issues #4 and #5 are scheduled for October and November respectively so no more waiting months for the next issue. To the editorial staff: You have me hooked. Permission to publish and I always hope for a No-more
This is just a fun time. Nothing overly unique, but just an entertaining read with absolutely jaw-dropping art on every page.
This comic is filling the void left by the X-MEN, the creativity is rewarding and all the new characters are strong with unique and easily recognizable personalities. Win win so far.
The student body races through their first day of classes. Mostly it's a montage of cute/cool moments that delivers admirable attention for every character. There are a few sharp spikes of plot foreshadowing, though (Emily moves the ball by raising the point of how the cost of the students' magic is paid for). An ensemble cast this big and this new really shouldn't work, but it does. Smart dialogue and incredible art (Humberto Ramos's best ever) go a long way to explaining the success.
This was a very fun issue. I even like the new characters, which is usually hard.
Sleeper alert, this book is not on many people's radars but it should be. Fun concept and ideas and fun story to go along with it, with relatable young new characters. This book should be getting more hype.
This is cute but I don’t know that I care enough about anything yet to actually get invested in the characters. Maybe it will surprise me!
