Superhero comic book perfection. I am so excited to get more from this universe!

Near perfection. This is my pick of January 2022.

I gave it a 9 because the main story is a 10 but the backup story is like a 6.5 or 7. Just give us more filler with Superman, Mongul, and Midnighter.

Batman: The Knight (2022) #2 Feb 28, 2022

Cowboy Bebop #2 Titan Comics Writer: Dan Watters Artist: Lamar Mathurin This was my Pick of the Week from March 2, 2022. The art in this book is very unique with very thin ink lines and solid vibrant colors. I'd give the artwork itself probably an 8.5 based on the uniqueness of its style. It has a certain rawness yet classic vibe. I really like the amount of black used within the backgrounds. The story for me is a 9/10 in this issue. I love how much this book reminds me of the anime and I can't wait for issue #3. Overall, I have to give this issue an 8.5 or a 9/10. For the sake of being conservative with my reviews I'll go with an 8.5/10 just to leave those extra points for books that really blow my gasket. SPOILERS BELOW The crew goes to this terraformed moon of Jupiter, Cyllene that was supposedly abandoned. They quickly find that it wasn't abandoned, but that the atmosphere has an incredibly high reading of nitrous oxide which has basically put the local populace into this euphoric state where they really don't give a fuck about anything. The crew of the Bebop splits up, Jet learning more about the moon and its lackadaisical culture, while Faye, of course, goes gambling and trying to cause trouble yet it seems to be impossible to piss anyone off. Spike investigates for the mission of finding the man with the quantum vest of infinite luck. He finds out that there is a second one and the man who owns it will give it to Spike for a simple and low price of 200 packets of expired Firecracker noodles. The crew finally gathers up and decides to leave the planet before their brains are also overly effected by the high levels of nitrous oxide. As it turns out, another bounty hunter that was also looking for the vest had followed them down to the moon and was eavesdropping on the crew as they discussed the new development.

Really solid return back to the main story and with Yasmine Putri back on the interior art. Love the twists and turns, love the unique iterations of the characters. Just all-in-all a really good book.

Thor (2020) #22 Feb 28, 2022

I really liked this, but there were many times where the script seems to have been added to the panels as narration and that bugged the hell out of me. The first MAJOR offender "SHE IS NOW WEARING HER CATWOMAN OUTFIT." Yeah, no shit Tom. If you want to add narration like that, at least have it in braile so it's actually useful to someone.

Really unfair score from the critic reviews. This issue is a great introduction to a new Firefly series. While it doesn't wow the reader with anything new or crazy, it has good callbacks to the original show without being boring. The worst part about it is the cover price. The book has a very high PPP (price per page). $5 with about 21 pages of content which is about $.40 a page. Considering the quality AND quantity are very similar to Spawn titles, which have a $3 cover price (about $.07 per page) it almost feels like someone who wears a suit every day is using this comic as a simple metric/gauge to see how much money they can still squeeze out of the Firefly franchise rather than a love letter to it or its fans.

Not as strong as the first issue, in my opinion. It was okay, I'm just glad the drop-off wasn't over a cliff.

Excellent introduction to a series that seems it will be more akin to the original anime than the live-action Netflix series and that is, absolutely, a good thing.

Hulk (2021) #4 Feb 28, 2022

It's a solid introduction to a character that I'm excited about. Unfortunately, this exact intro seems like it has been done 10 times before. I was hyped to get kind of a seedy, voodoo-inspired New Orleans but it absolutely lacked any accurate charm. Here's hoping for a Mardi Gras issue #2 or #3!

Not a bad issue by any means, but after a near perfect issue #1 I feel like Team Rons just dumped a ton of ice water on my hype.

Really solid send-off for Season One. I wasn't really feeling this run until near the end of issue #5 but it definitely took a turn for the better.

Amazing Spider-Man (2018) #89 Feb 28, 2022

Pages with Queen Goblin: 8+ Pages without Queen Goblin: 6.5 or less I am glad that her mini-arc is over, now for the next month I can put that $4/week elsewhere.

It was decent but really lacked a punch when it came to ending the arc and setting up the future, it just kind of happened.

No thanks, just not for me. The art was good but the paneling made everything very confusing and the lack of words didn't help the story one bit. We didn't necessarily need any dialogue but some simple narration could have been very effective.

Clea is brutal, really digging her as Sorcerer Supreme so far she just has this ruthlessness about her. I gotta say though, I'm not a huge fan of Ferreira, at least in this issue. There are a couple of oddly drawn faces of Clea here followed by one panel that is downright ugly, but the art seems to pick up for a while before it tanks again. Get someone else on faces. I really dug the issue as a whole. Clea is awesome and the bazaar part reminded me a lot of my time in Afghanistan with the Blasphemy Cartel showing up and trying to wreck shop then take over. The way Clea just completely dispatched what seemed like pretty powerful foes made me excited about what's to come. The art was not great though and my score for the book suffers because of it. 7/10

I'm pretty sure the cyclic rate of fire of an AR-15 is not 700 rounds per minute. But ok Jed you do you

How do you produce a book that has a lightning fast pace yet is still boring as hell? Sabretooth #2. I absolutely LOVED the first issue and I was very hyped for this follow-up. Honestly, my hype definitely just took a fire hose to the face, but I am still looking forward to the next few issues because I think this one just got a lot of very boring expository stuff out of the way.... hopefully.

Wells: 9 JRJR: 0 The book is well written and paced but JRJR's art is just dragging it down.. please Marvel, this dude is not his father, let him draw a Minecraft book or something.

First half of the book was ACAB propaganda with a nice touch of "the white man is the root of all my problems" Victimhood. The second half of the book was actually pretty great with some nice, touching character beats with Warpath meeting his grandma for the first time since he was just a baby.

Utter trash. Tini Howard filled the pages of this with text and it felt like not a single word actually mattered.

A book that is written merely to exploit an entire fraction of society for monetary gain? How anyone could rate this higher than a 1 is either ignorant of the blatant disrespect or complicit in oppression through mockery. Pathetic.
