As Gene Luen Yang's run on this title comes to a close"and the title with it"we get another engaging chapter of one of the most unique stories in DC in a long time. Read Full Review
I'm really not sure what more I can say. Just stop reading this review and go pick up this issue! Although, if you haven't been picking up the monthlies, I recommend that you just wait on the trade. It's been great fun reading this story from month to month, but I think it will be even better when read in one book and perhaps even in one sitting. Seriously, though, this is it"enthusiastically recommended! Read Full Review
The story by Yang is very good and focused. It has a nice flavor to it and the dialogue is very good. I loved the art by Ivan Reis. Reis is one of the best artists in the field and proves that again here. Read Full Review
Heck, I am a sucker for Elseworlds. And the truth is these film versions of Superman and Batman were pretty close to versions I have in my heart. So it was fun to see them interact in more classic, almost Golden Age worlds. As I said before, the art is astounding. I still don't know if I understand who the Auteur is, why he was corrupted, or how he got saved. Maybe I need to reread. But in the end, I can roll with that given the story we got. Read Full Review
This really was a world of fun, and while I'm sad to see the series ending, at least it went out on top. Read Full Review
While Gene Luen Yang and Ivan Reis deserve all the praise, they get for creativity and art, this final issue, and the whole story arc was a bit of a downer to me. It felt like the story played second fiddle to the aspects I mentioned above, and it just didn't gel at the end for me. I am not upset that I read it, but I doubt it will be more than a remembered curiosity in the future. Read Full Review
It's hard to tell what Gene Luen Yang intended to happen with this script, which is, in turn, baffling and exhausting. The conclusion — which has creates the duties of Marvel's First Race with none of the gravitas or clarity of Jeffrey Wright — smacks of "ooh, I can do that too"-ism with the culture checking Disney+ every Wednesday morning. Everyone here had the tools to make a good comic book … but somehow, it didn't happen. Read Full Review
This was a really enjoyable to the end. I didn't expect to like this run so much, but now that it's on the verge of ending, I'm sad to see it go.
Absolutely phenomenal run by GLY, though I'm very heartbroken that its been cut short. Super excited for the annual as well as the teases included in the epilogue.
A fitting ending to what has been the best story for Batman and Superman this past year. It's a shame we couldn't see moue from the team of Yang and Reis. Hopefully they'll team up for a sequel featuring these 2 alternates from simpler times one day. This will be a classic for a long time to come in my book.
As a sucker for camp, I felt good reading this. Sure the conflict with Etrigan ended a little too quickly, but last issue did make him out to be something other than a henchmen. As for El Diablo and Alanna, a bit too quickly a move for relationships, but hey more room for the imagination.
I just really liked how well Batman and Superman bounce off each other despite being from different worlds and having the time to work everything out. It's like the voids in their respective worlds filled when meeting each other. Their presence even makes sense of Auter.io's development.
I grew bored of this issues go but given it's the end of the arc and of the run I feel generous for a book that was consistently decent.
P.S.: There's an annual after this so I've downgraded it to 6.
