So not much super-villainy action or plot progression here. But the power of this book is reading classic versions of our heroes from the recent past and seeing them perplexed by the current DCU was solid gold. I think that one Superwoman page alone probably makes this grade an A. I know for some this might be considered filler or decompression. But not for this reader. Read Full Review
World's Finest #39 is a thrilling penultimate chapter that balances superhero spectacle with heartfelt character beats. Waid's writing continues to weave golden-age nostalgia with modern narrative precision, and Henry and Bonvillain are in perfect lockstep visually. While the time-hopping may occasionally get dense, the stakes, action, and emotional beats make this one of the strongest issues in the arc. Read Full Review

Sinestro takes the lead among the villains this issue, and it's a reminder of just how far the character has come since then he's pretty much a cackling stock villain here, but he has the power to displace the heroes once again. And where hey wind up at the end of this issue promises to be a lot less hospitable. A few more chapters of this entertaining, chaotic crossover are still to come. Read Full Review
One of the more intense moments in the issue DOES involve some pretty tightly-woven dialogue as Lois flies off, rifling through a few matters to Clark that illustrate just how totally different everything is in the present. So often a writer might want to show contemporary heroes a weird and bizarre future in which strange things have happened. Its nice to see that switched-up as Batman, Superman and Robin are all quite suddenly shocked by everything thats happened in the recent decades as Lois Lane/Superwoman flies off on business. Its one of the more clever moments in a strikingly clever issue. Read Full Review
Dueling time-displacements lead to some fun and bittersweet moments as the heroes try stopping the Legion. Waids writing balances the action with steady drama. Henry and Bonvillain unveil the true reflections of broken time with the art. Its an issue with something for everyone. Read Full Review
Despite being a crossover, Batman/Superman: World's Finest #38 still retains the parts of itself that make it great. Mark Waid and company packed this issue with explosive fun, heartwarming moments, and opens the door to endless possibilities. With two issues to go, We Are Yesterday has been an engaging and memorable crossover. Read Full Review
Batman/Superman World's Finest Issue 39 shuffles the story. The exhilarating and entertaining pace of the Worlds Finest books bleeds into the main timeline, altogether transplanting the heroes into the modern world. Read Full Review
It's a tale of two Worlds Finests in Batman/Superman: Worlds Finest #39 in both the past and present. This chapter also helps to shake up We Are Yesterday after the slower burn of the last one. Read Full Review
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #39 continues the “We Are Yesterday” crossover with a dose of classic superhero time-travel action, brought to life by energetic artwork and enjoyable character moments. However, it's becoming increasingly clear that this crossover lacks significant stakes to truly engage readers on a more profound level. Read Full Review
Akash: While the time travel shenanigans of this issue led to some fun and emotional moments, World's Finest #39 screams “we need 6 issues for the trade.” It is a decent issue in its own right, but it shouldn't have been here. Score: 6.5/10 Read Full Review
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #39 doesn't do a whole lot in terms of progressing the "We Are Yesterday crossover. Honestly, this feels like mostly a filler chapter. That said, Mark Waid and Clayton Henry find the fun to be had with inserting Batman, Superman, and Robin from their early years into the modern DC Universe. Read Full Review
This saga continues to unfold in fun and unpredictable ways. To me, the key word here is FUN, seeing both versions of our heroes encounter key characters and events from their past and future, while maintaining the seriousness of the threat that the LOD poses. It’s clear that Waid is having a blast writing this as it shines through on every page. Definitely the best this book has been in over a year!
I honestly like the easter eggs we see. I like how Superman snaps out of Scarecrow's fear gas when he was exposed to a hallucination of his funeral (which was in Death of Superman). Overall, this was a solid issue
