This is a great setup issue for what's to come with the Monster Society of Evil and Mr. Mind's plans for them, while also giving desperately needed looks at certain characters that are filling the pages of this series. The biggest problem I had here is the art shift in the middle of the book because it just threw me out of the story and made me wish that Dale Eaglesham could have done the entire thing. Even though there seems to be way too much going on to easily follow, it is worth the effort to do so. Shazam is one of DC's more interesting characters, and Johns' interpretation is compelling, if a little overpowering. And it does help now that the title seems to back on a regular schedule. Prelude:
Shazam has been good recently but let's see if it can remain on that consistency.
The Good:
Some really interesting world building here.
I like C.C. so far.
IT'S PRIME TIME!!!
I liked Kolins and Eaglesham's art in this issue.
The Bad:
Not sure how I feel about the cliffhanger.
Conclusion:
Mostly a great issue though the cliffhanger is a bit weird for me. It'll probably make more sense with the whole story.
This feels like a straight up Rebirth title.
" You heard him, right ? Something about his parents... And i was cruel to you. I was absent. I left you thinking i didnt want to be with you. You didn't trust adults either before you met the vasquezes-- Billy, Mary and the others. You didn't believe in familly. "
- BILLY DAD'S
I like the family being all together and getting along. Their foster parents are pretty amazing to adapt to all this. Talky Tawny was great in this too.
There is a lot to like here, but the 'King Kid' storyline has gone on far too long.
Johns should retire
Oh god if that’s Superboy Prime I’m rioting.
Man, this one is boring.
It would be fine............ BUT PRIME WAS TEASED IN FLASH WAR!!!
