"Trial of the Amazons" part three! After the death of one of the Amazons' own, Diana has decided to take matters into her own hands and use her Lasso of Truth to find the murderer. As the island's attention turns to the Contest at hand, our hero fights back against tradition to make sure justice is served. But one Amazon stands in her way...Queen Nubia? Plus, a new adventure of young Diana!
The two stories have very different stylings. The A Story uses a detailed, realistic drawing form with a mature and serious tone. On the other hand, the B Story is modern and youthful. The bright and energetic coloring is captivating and perfectly matches the mood and personality of the lead character. Read Full Review
The consistency between artist and writer in the Young Diana series is a nice emotional anchor at issues end. Diana is seen at two deeply contrasting stages in her life. There are actually very few major heroes who would work with this format, which is why its so remarkably clever for the contrast between childhood and adulthood to be presented every month in Wonder Woman. In her grief, Diana wishes to use her lasso of truth to figure out who her mothers killer is, but is checked back to reality by Nubia, whos objectivity regarding to the situation really highlights how amazing of a character she is. Im so glad DC has finally given us a team of writers and artists (shout out to the ENTIRE Wonder family of titles) who can see the potential that we fans have seen for decades. Not only this, but whats going on with Dooms Doorway? Who wants to break on through to the other side? So many questions that will nag you until the next chapter. This storyline has filled me with excitement, not only for how the Trial plays out, but where we go from here! Its definitely a great time to be a Wonder fan. Read Full Review
"Trial of the Amazons" is turning out to be a delicious slow-boil event series. Wonder Woman #785 explores Diana's complicated relationship with her home island while throwing some doozy revelations on the reader. You'll be amped up more than ever for the trial after this issue. Read Full Review
The mystery villain lurking in the background seems to be waiting to make their move, but overall this story is pretty compelling. Read Full Review
Wonder Woman #785 did a great job exploring what has taken place thus far in the Trial of the Amazons crossover. The impact of Hippolyta's death and Diana reaction to her mother passing away all pushed the story forward. The ending with the official Champions participating in the Trial of the Amazons being revealed greater intriguing going into the next chapter of this Wonder Woman crossover event. Read Full Review
Wonder Woman #785 maintains a strong focus on Diana and thus succeeds in being a very good issue. The endgame for "Trial of the Amazons" is still shrouded in mystery and therefore the plot movement makes me feel very suspicious. Comics have a reputation of promising huge changes that are subsequently undone down the road so they lose any weight. The issue is still mostly about Diana and her personal reactions to the events on Themiscyra and the death of her mother and that makes all the difference in the world with this issue. Wonder Woman #785 is a dense issue and it's one that almost requires you to read the previous installments of "Trial of the Amazons" to make sense of exactly what is going on as the various Amazon tribes come together to not only battle it out with one another but also figure out who killed Hippolyta. Wonder Woman #785 aka Trial of the Amazons, part #3 is consistent with the previous entries in the event in that most of the characters stand around in meetings and talk. However, the few plot points that progress is forced, and the overall issue is a drag. The art is decent if you focus on the close-up work and accept the wide shots lack detail. Read Full Review
I cant even lie that I have some severe issues with Wonder Woman in "Trial of The Amazons", and Becky Cloonan's puzzle piece here brings up nearly everything I have a problem with Wondy about in this integral piece of the DC Universe. Read Full Review
The third part of Trial of the Amazons focuses on Diana as expected. Sadly she felt a little off and as did the way to her ultimate conclusion. The introspection didn't feel as smooth as it should have been.
But I very much appreciate the tie-back to the WW Annual that was said to set this event up and it was good to see Diana and Cassie interact.
The art by Rosi Kämpe is either extremely strong or quite weak. There are definitely some panels that are beautifully executed but some things just get wonky and that is sad to see. At least for an event, they should have been able to give a consistent artist to the Wonder Woman flagship title.
Adventures of Young Diana makes a comeback with this Issue and seems t more
while there is a lot of exposition, I really enjoyed this issue. Looking forward to the next few issues.
Again, this event is incredibly tedious and boring, and such a slog. I do not understand what the appeal is here. It's just the epitome of what's wrong with how DC has handled Wonder Woman for years.
I can't be the only one who thinks the wonder woman titles have generally been incredibly boring, this event doesn't change anything, this title still has its pacing issues
