Edge of Venomverse #1 is a promising start to a surely epic event. Not a perfect comic, but it gets the job done, as I am now eager to read the rest of the series and can't wait for the impending Venom event. Read Full Review
Edge of Venomverse #1 is an entertaining start to a summer popcorn series, though a decidedly brutal one. If you aren't a fan of the Venom side of things, this won't change your mind, but if you like hard hitting action you'll find a lot to love. Read Full Review
Regardless of if youre a fan of All-New Wolverine or just NYX, Edge of the Venomverse #1 is a functional little comic that encapsulates Lauras origin with a neat twist while also setting up who this version of Laura is going to be in the up-coming multiverse battle on the horizon of the Marvel universe. Unfortunately the first issue of Venomverse missed the mark for me although I did enjoy Roland Boschi's art. Edge of Venomverse is a five issue series, followed by another five issue series called simply Venomverse that I assume will team all these characters up, with a one-shot thrown in between the two series. That's quite the investment for an event that so far, hasn't hooked me. I'm hoping later issues will turn my excitement around. Read Full Review
An interesting lead-in to a storyline, but relies far too heavily on previously written works, without making much new headway. Read Full Review
Edge of Venomverse #1 works fine as a sort of short, condensed take on the origin of X-23 and her first meeting with the NYX cast. It's a story that's well-suited to Ramon Bachs' murky, brooding art style. But it's not one that makes particularly clever use of the Venom element. Nor does it do much at all to build anticipation for the upcoming Venomverse crossover. Read Full Review
Edge of Venomverse #1 would have been a stronger issue with a more emotionally driven plot, but has some fun nods for hardcore Laura fans to enjoy. Read Full Review
A slow introduction to this new mashup from Marvel. Hopefully the next issue quickens the pace. Read Full Review
As far as introductory issues go, this is a pretty good effort. The story is interesting enough and it's a cool concept. Read Full Review
Edge ofVenomverse does a decent enough job of providing an intriguing first issue but doesn'tmake the overall point of the story being published overtly clear justyet. In a crowded summer comic bookmarket it's tough to make a case for this mini-event to warrant much attentionjust yet, unless some must see moments happen quickly, recapping a version of X-23's origin isnt that just yet ... but hey at least its not $4.99! Edge of Venomverse #1 is a weak beginning to "Venomverse." With shaky characterization and little excitement, the solid art is not enough to save this first issue. Read Full Review
Many of shortcomings of Edge of the Venomverse #1 could be overlooked if there was a hook for what comes next. Unfortunately, while the final moments tease Laura's first steps in a larger collection of worlds, there's no real incentive or threat to keep us interested. Where Spider-Verse kicked off with Morlun declaring that all spiders will die, there is no equivalent menace to the Multiverse present here. If the next few issues are to be a random series of symbiote encounters so be it, but the core story that starts in September may be of more lasting interest. Read Full Review
It's a rather dull comic, and it's one-dimensional in the sense that it does what the cover promises and delivers X-23 as Venom, but as far as events go, it really doesn't provide much else for a reader. It's a decent book and gives what you'd expect from it, so pick it up if you're really interested, otherwise, this may not be for you. Read Full Review
Concept better than execution, and very rushed. Most of the interesting ideas are barely touched on, and the book ends abruptly.
X-23 + Venom + homeless kiddies = lots of hard-knock street life. There's a few great twists in Matthew Rosenberg's script that make this an exciting story. It ends with a wonderful surprise cliffhanger, too. However, Roland Boschi's art is letting the reader down. It starts at a "just barely acceptable" level and slides into actual "I can't tell what's going on" illegibility by the end.
What a piece of garbage this is. The cover is pretty though. Too bad the art inside doesn't match it. Awful art, awful writing, symbiotie poorly used/used wrong/inconsistently used. Don't buy this trash.
