Empyre: Aftermath - Avengers #1 (Ewing, Schiti, & Gracia) walks the line between foreshadowing of the post-event fallout and a homage to some fan-favorite characters. The wedding setting and intimate moments provide an anchor for the space-shattering changes they want us to believe will follow. Read Full Review

Empyre: Aftermath Avengers #1 is the perfect coda to this summer's Marvel Comics event. It closes the door on major plot points but keeps it cracked just enough to get your imagination going with where we go from here. This book looks as good as the event itself, which is actually uncommon for many events in Marvel's history, but somehow Schiti and Gracia keep the quality level up to a high standard. If you read Empyre and enjoyed it, you must read this. And if you want to keep tabs on where Marvel Comics goes from here, you guessed it, you gotta read this. Read Full Review
The Avenger's Empyre epilogue concentrates more on Emperor Hulkling and his court than the titular team. This actually works out well, tying a solid bow on the event while leaving a few promising plot threads loose for continuation. Great character art helps make the reading experience a satisfying one. I have enjoyed the Empyre event and this was a sweet ending to the story. I have been rooting for Hulking and Wiccan since I knew about their relationship and glad to see it finally come to marriage. While this issue was mostly resolution and didn't have much to talk about, I think this is a good read regardless if you having been following the Empyre Event. Read Full Review
Ewing and Schiti are able to capture character moments well enough, but Empyre weaves a story with weak cohesion and the final page will have you groaning that there may be a sequel in the works. Read Full Review
I think this was better than the event itself. It really looks like Empyre, the event, was sort of something that *had* to happen in order to get to the things that are much more exciting. This issue is filled with great character moments that I truly enjoyed and it ends on what I can only assume is teasing Al Ewing's potential X-book, or maybe something adjacent to the X-Men line. I know Al Ewing has a plan for Marvel Cosmic, and I'm here for it, even if Empyre didn't meet expectation.
You think you know everything about Empyre? This issue hits you with a giant twist. Also, I really like Hulkling and Billy as characters. Best part of the entire event, maybe (and it's not even in the main series)!
Great issue. Just missed an interaction with Wanda and Vision.
Teddy and Billy get a big glamorous space-wedding. Marred by a few gloomy overtones: Teddy's Skrull grandma promises doom and Abigail Brand quits Alpha Flight because they were sidelined during the event. But there's happy times as well, and some thought-provoking changes to the cosmic status quo are proposed.
The only big failing is that it's not really a story, just a collection of continuity updates, changes, and wanks that all happen to happen at the same wedding. But it's well-written and well-drawn, and the continuity stuff is (to me, anyway) inherently interesting.
This was good but I didn’t love the organization of it.
For a slog of an event, I liked this epilogue, at least it ended on a good note. If only this insurrection made by Emperor R'kll wasn't so poorly rushed in the main event. I did like that this was a sweet tribute to Mar-vell, Though it was automatically spoiled by this whining that somebody didn't get a piece of the action. Though this issue is a really good analysis of what responsibility and action Ted now takes a ruler of two empires. Cool niche ending, though I find it a weak motive if this gets brought out into another event. Liked this for an ending.
Nice little wrap up and things for the future. Dumb event, but I'm excited for Ewing on an X book if that is what the tease is at the end
