SHADOW KING SHOWDOWN!
He's been skirting the line... skulking around the Wild Hunt... and now he's simply gone too far. On Krakoa, where the dead walk among the living and the unforgiveable has been forgiven, the NEW MUTANTS now battle an old foe... the psychic entity known as the Shadow King!
RATED T+
All in all I have to say this book is the gift that keeps on giving. Just as I think we are coming to the end of the drama the next stage is set and events step up a gear to keep me guessing as to what the final outcome will be. Read Full Review
Rod Reis delivers some fantastic art in this issue. There is a classic look and feel to the art that draws in the reader and I love the style and energy of the issue. Read Full Review
New Mutants #22 continues to blend strong character work with bonkers visuals and action. Come for the intense visuals you'll get nowhere else, but stay for the genuine heartfelt emotions and deep thoughts on what it means to be a person. Read Full Review
I've got to show wild love to Rod Reis for his artwork in New Mutants #22. So many pages feature incredibly layered scenes that create a sense of excitement, confusion, and chaos at one point or another. Read Full Review
New Mutants #22 does a great job of juxtaposing Shadow Kings pessimism with the power of community. Ayala presents both sides very well. Reiss art does a good job of illustrating the issue. Its an entertaining issue and continues this grand, long Shadow King story Ayala has been building. Read Full Review
While character voices in this issue again verge on the unbelievably measured, New Mutants #22 brings the overarching themes of Vita Ayala's run writing the title into focus. Read Full Review
This is a perfect comic. The art, the writing, everything, perfect. The debate between Shadow King and the New Mutants is so well written to the point I can actually see where Farouk is coming from (even though I still want to see the NM kick his ass). Can't wait to see how this plays out next month!
Great story and a wonderful read. I can't say enough about how much I love the artwork in this book. Finally scout is so awesome
New Mutants is pure goodness. Rod Reis is fantastic!!
This was a great issue. Vita Ayala manages to tie everything together well, and Rod Reis gets to go crazy with their art.
The art is superb!
While Scout has a heartwarming reconnection with the "Lost Club" kids, things go poorly for the New Mutants with the Shadow King. He pitches his "training" of the kids in social Darwinist terms, and when his audience isn't sold, his "plan B" is good ol' psychic torture. I like the ideas in the Shadow King section and the character work on the younger kids, but this issue just barely reaches "good comics" territory for me. The pace is slow and the art, while beautiful in some spots, doesn't quite make up for it.
Found this a lot more uneven than last issue.
Still enjoyable tho, w/some good developments.
Pacing is terribly slow. Please end this arc.
Would get a 9, if the story wasn't so long and chaarcters acted so dumb. Shadow king isnt a mutant
