24: Legacy - Rules of Engagement #1

Dec 20, 2017

24 Legacy Rules of Engagement is a solid tie-in, it helps give more backstory to the main character, but its just a shame this wasn't out during the show airing on Fox to benefit from the hype around the series. If you enjoyed the series, this might be worth checking out but sadly I just didn't connect with it.

Dec 28, 2017

A great issue of Amazing Spider-Man, with lots of interactions with other Spider characters like Venom, Black Cat and Anti-Venom, however we don't really get to see much development of the main villain, Maniac. But it's the bad “Superman 3” style Spider-Man that is so interesting.

This “No Surrender” storyline kicks off with a bang, with loads of action, loads of heroes and a huge question hanging over the entire Marvel universe that had me wanting to jump to the next panel instantly and by being weekly, it will keep me entertained. This first issue completely sold me on getting invested in this story.

Avengers (2016) #676

Jan 18, 2018

Once again, the Avengers continues to tell a interesting story that has some major aspects to it and it's certainly peaked my interest in this series and I certainly want to keep turning the pages to find out what's happening next, which is the one problem, since we know so little after reading it, but I'm sure it'll become clearer as it goes on.

Avengers (2016) #677

Jan 29, 2018

With this being still very early on within the “No Surrender” storyline, this issue starts to position the Avenger teams into the right positions to have some big battles in future issues, the use of Quicksilver to break up the flow really helps keep things interesting. I've been enjoying this series and now I'm left with more questions, that I can't wait to find out more and with a weekly series, I don't need to wait long.

Avengers (2016) #678

Jan 31, 2018

Surrender is no doubt going to be an epic story, but now we are a few issues in, the plot has slowed down and this means this issue has very little to move the story along. My big issue with this issue is how confusing the battles get, I often had to flip back and read it again, which is a shame, since I'm really interested to see where this story is going, but as we get closer to the middle arc, it might be a while before we find out anything. But it still has some fantastic artwork and some awesome fight scenes. It's an epic issue, but it's struggling under the weight of its own cast size.

Avengers (2016) #680

Feb 14, 2018

This story arc is interesting but the focus on the less known heroes is dragging it down, bringing in the original Wasp seemed a little anticlimax and we have the exact same cliffhanger as last week, which hopefully brings a huge name onto the field to make this story move up a gear.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron #25

Mar 26, 2018

This is a great way to finish off the story arc and bring us right up to date ahead of “The Force Awakens”, I've been enjoying this series and how it helps fill out the new characters from the new movies and this issue felt like a great way to end it.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron #29

Jul 20, 2018

This is a fine Star Wars comic, its got a small battle scene to keep things moving, but its your typical filler content that leads nowhere, which is always a problem with these stories. It's pretty average, but I did enjoy reading it.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - DJ #1

Feb 2, 2018

If your coming to this comic expecting to learn more about DJ, you'll be disappointed, since we learn very little about him or his past, since the events of the comic only take place maybe hours before the events of "The Last Jedi". It's a fine one shot but nothing really happens.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - The Storms Of Crait #1

Dec 29, 2017

The Storms Of Crait is a nice little one shot for fans wanting to know a little more about Crait, but it doesn't give anything away that most people wouldn't have worked out from watching “The Last Jedi”. With aphotorealistic realistic style and featuring all the major characters plus great action, it's a easy recommendation for Star Wars fans.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Adaptation #1

May 12, 2018

Honestly, if you haven't seen the movie, spend the money from this series on the Blu-Ray and if you've seen the movie, this issue isn't worth reading. I just think trying to cram an entire movie into 6 issues, means so much of the movie has been lost and trying to squeeze in some additional scenes in as well, just results in an average experience and ultimately feels a little pointless. I'd recommend trying out the Star Wars or Darth Vader series instead.

Star Wars: Thrawn #1

Feb 25, 2018

Since I've read the book and know where this series is going, I'm not going to continue reading the rest of the series, however if you haven't read the novel and want a great version of it, I'd say get in on this series now as it's a great story with some fantastic artwork.

The Life Of Captain Marvel #1

Jul 21, 2018

The Life Of Captain Marvel is a great book and I'm looking forward to reading the other issues in this series. The artwork is excellent and I enjoyed how this tries to show a more emotional aspect to Superheroes.

The Mighty Thor (2015) #702

Dec 20, 2017

Mighty Thor #702 is all about setting up the story and while it doesn't feature too much action, the internal conflict and impending death is a interesting aspect that make me come back to find out more.

The X-Files: Case Files: Hoot Goes There? #1

Jul 17, 2018

#1 has pulled me in and I certainly want to know what is going on in the second part. The artwork isn't perfect but the story delivered exactly what I wanted from the X-Files, no big story arcs or conspiracies, just a good "what's going on here" investigation.

X-Men: Gold (2017) Annual #1

Jan 14, 2018

This issue includes two single stories, both of which have a nice upbeat story and leave on a good note, though the second story felt a little over the top. And while it's a bigger issue, it comes in at a higher price and with some great stories going on within the X-Men books, this might have been better as a introduction to get new fans into the Xmen. It's a nice upbeat book but I was disappointed.

X-Men: Grand Design: Second Genesis #1

Jul 28, 2018

If you want a high speed take on the history of the X-Men, either to get up to date on all the happenings if your a new reader or fancy a trip down memory lane, this is a good pick up, but for me, it just didn't click and I won't be coming back for part 2.

X-Men: Red (2018) #1

Feb 10, 2018

This is a easy recommendation for this weeks releases, its got lots of action and tells a interesting story, which is core to the X-Men origins. This is a huge step up from the "Return of the Jean Grey" series and I'm certainly going to add this into my rotation.

X-Men: Red (2018) #2

Mar 10, 2018

X-Men Red feels like a traditional X-Men story, it has every thing you'd want and more. It could do with a little more action, but the way they use Jean Grey's powers are smart and get the job done. A solid X-Men issue.
