VerdictJurgens' take on Batman Beyond has been great fun, and much more satisfying than DC's earlier attempts to carry on the story. This has given me a desire to rewatch the original cartoon again, and as luck would have it, a remastered Blu-Ray set has just been announced. This is a great time to be a Batman Beyond fan! The ending comes with a shock twist. I sort of expected something similar happening, but didn't expect it to come around so quickly. Instead this turn of events spells out serious doom for our heroes. What's more, with Terry otherwise M.I.A. we can only imagine what could still happen. Jurgens is usually polite enough to tell us when the end of an arc is coming, with a well placed “To be concluded”… but there's no end in sight. Batman Beyond #34 continues a strong run. Man, I love False Face Beyond.  This issue is elevated because of the fun that can happen when a villain tries to play a hero and when a hero is in over his head, with no idea what's going on.  Yeah, the supporting cast kind of come off like dummies in this issue, but the majority of the book is so much fun and the art continues to be great here. Batman Beyond has ventured into a potentially interesting territory in. A world featuring a villain of fluid identity. Theres a great deal of potential in the villain cast against an amnesiac hero in a story of the future. If Jurgens and Leonardi can find the right place to cast the story, this could turn into a very interesting narrative. Read Full Review

Overall, I've grown tired of this arc and I was hoping that after the reveal of False Faces power-set, we'd see smart characters acting like themselves. Like I've explained, in Batman Beyond #34 this isn't the case. The more frustrating piece to all of this is that The Splitt is one of my favorite villains from DC Comics so far this year. They're interesting; Adam and Cade are a different kind of speedster, and their dueling personalities make their interactions with Terry great to see. False Face is also an intriguing villain.It's the failed potential of "Divide, Conquer, and Kill" that makes Batman Beyond #34 hurt the most as a fan of the series. Read Full Review

Tons of professional work by Jurgens and Leonardi...but the story isn't grabbing me in any visceral sense.

That said, it's a solidly above average book.
