The Court of Owls summons Batman, demanding he venture deep beneath the city to fight what has been unleashed from its depths: a wave of madness infecting Gotham's villains, driven by the monstrous creature they're calling the Batman Below. But the Court has not-entirely-noble reasons for wanting this chaos stopped... Is Batman their weapon, or their bait?
Christian Ward profoundly loves and understands the world of Gotham City. It's evident in this story and the copious amount of rogues we get from the Ventriloquist, which showcases Wesker's human side. And then even making Harvey Dent the hero almost amongst his duality hidden in his mind. never thought we'd see Two-Face being the one to warn Batman to save Gotham, yet he's done it. Batman City of Madness is a must-read horrifying yet beautiful love letter to the history of Batman. Do yourselves a favor and make this the number one comic you read this year. Read Full Review
I'm loving this story. Batman: City of Madness #2 is brilliantly paced and structurally sound. The way that small pieces of information are slowly being divulged is being handled in a way that adds to the tension and builds the drama. Read Full Review
Batman: City of Madness #2 can make any reviewer feel inadequate. It’s an artistic experience that is utterly unforgettable and leaves you tongue-tied. It’s a book that exists in its own universe, speaking in both story terms and from a creative standpoint. Read Full Review

It's hard to believe there's only one issue left here, because the end of the issue has so much left to explore and the main setting is only now being discovered. Black Label seems to be morphing into a bit of an artists' showcase at the moment, and it's creating some fascinating work. Read Full Review
The depth of the story and artistic license of this creative team to prepare a cerebral masterpiece was truly out of this world. Readers can instantly tell the connection between the art and writing as they comb the issue since the author of both was the same. Read Full Review
The book is fun and consistently well drawn. It may remind me of other movies and books like The Doom That Came To Gotham, but it's still fascinating. The weakest part of the series seems to be its obsession with over explaining elements of the story. Ironically, none of it really makes sense, yet. As part adventure and part noir, the story feels intimate but expansive. Ward clearly intends Jevonney's soul to be at the center of the conflict. Overall, City of Madness could be a solid book, depending on how well the supernatural elements go over with readers. Read Full Review
As always, the highlight of the comic is Christian Ward's art, who brings a very vibrant take to a horror genre usually defined by grays and greens. Read Full Review
The art is phenomenal, especially the varied range of colors. There are a lot of characters on the table and themes at play, and I worry that they won't all be fully explored. Read Full Review
A wild, mind-bending trip into the depths of Gotham's depravity. Writer and artist Christian Ward throws caution to the wind, crafting a narrative that's as unsettling as it is visually stunning. This is Batman like you've never seen him before, forced to confront the very fabric of reality itself. Ward's art perfectly captures this descent into chaos. It's a visual feast for the senses, but one that will leave you feeling slightly off-kilter, in the best way possible. We glimpse the origins of the Under-Gotham, its connection to the Court of Owls, and the horrifying price Gotham must pay for its existence.
But City of Madness #2 is more than just a psychedelic trip. It's a story about confronting the darkness within ourselves, more
Batman: City of Madness issue #2 continues the strange and fascinating story of a nightmare Gotham which exists below the Gotham we know. Artist & writer Christian Ward brings it all to life in a series of stunning and colourful pages, with some of the art almost tripping off the page like a psychedelic nightmare.
There is a lot going on in this issue, a lot to take in, but you certainly get the “Bang” for your buck. Yes, I think it’s worth paying the higher price for this. It’s original, entertaining and almost daring at times. At least this book is trying something new and makes a refreshing change from the regular Batman monthly comic.
