HILL (CROSSOVER, Harley Quinn), the all-star creative team that brought you VENOM, comes an all-new take on the classic hero's quest!
Oliver Harrison was a mythical hero who slayed the greatest threat to his realm before even hitting puberty. But that was then.
As an adult, Oliver leads an average cookie-cutter suburban life-aside from the fact that he's mentally unstable, massively paranoid, smokes like a chimney, and gets blackout drunk more
Vanish #1delivers a bold and brutal approach to the realm of fantasy storytelling as Donny Cates & Ryan Stegman reunite for a creator-owned title that feels metal in every sense of the word. If you're looking for a new fantasy comic or just love fantasy in general, I highly suggest picking this title up. Read Full Review
Stegman delivers some beautifully detailed art in this issue. The action is beautifully drawn and the style creates and enhances the environment of the story. Read Full Review
Vanish #1 is going to make a lot of 30-somethings like myself very happy. It's as if The Pitt, Harry Potter, and The Authority had a baby visualized in stunning 4K Ultra. It has mystery, a robust world worth exploring, and a main character you will cheer for as he disassembles "superheroes" in the coming issues. Read Full Review

VANISH #1 is a slick callback to 90s grittiness that checks all the boxes from exceptional art to a cleverly thought out and concise script that paints a clear picture of where the creative team are headed as they take you on a dark violent journey into a world where Magic and the idea of costumed heroes merge violently. Fans of early Image titles like the original Spawn series, andThe Darkness will no doubt feel a sense of nostalgia while newer fans who missed that era will get to experience it through this opening chapter. There are still quite a few questions to answer, but that's part of the fun of it all, and while this grittier world might not be for everyone, I'm already 100% all in. Read Full Review
Vanish #1 is the edginess I craved from Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer, and Sonia Oback. Read Full Review
On paper there's certainly a lot to like here, but if I'm being honest, the bulk of my excitement about this series is based on the track record of its creative team, as opposed to what actually happens in this first issue. Dont get me wrong, its not bad in any significant way, its just a little bland, particularly when you compare it to the creators' previous work, both individually and together. One to keep an eye on if you're a hardcore fan of the creators, but this definitely isn't setting the world on fire. Read Full Review
Vanish #1 kicks off the series with an uninteresting main character on a slightly more interesting vendetta. The location of the story is far more fascinating than the characters themselves, but hopefully over the next few issues, after we see more of Olivers life, hell become a character we can relate to and root for. A really good start. Not a fan of magic, or dystopia, really. But I'm hopeful here.
All an all an interesting concept that managed to keep up with the awesome artwork. It’s a Constantine meets, Harry Potter in “Kick Ass” themed setting. There was a bit of ambiguity that creates intrigue, I’m just hoping their can continue the same level of intensity and continuity.
Cool debut.
This was quite a bit of fun. The Stegman and Meyer combo never fails to impress. The story is not bad either; it’s very fantasy / magic driven which isn’t usually my cup of tea but Cates’ prose really carries it along. My only criticism is I’m not a fan of the fantasy exposition dump. I get that it’s necessary but I’m sure subsequent issues will feel a lot less of a slog as a result. I might come back to this once the trade comes out.
The art is fantastic and a lot of familiar story beats that Cates loves to touch on are here, but omg the exposition dump in this as well as how over-complicated it feels. I mean, look at that summary.
This is one superhero tale that feels too borrowed at the moment without much new to add other than putting several elements in one basket.
I'll read this one when the trade's out.
The artwork looks cool, but alternate takes on archetypal superheroes have been done to death and this one isn't promising of a particularly original or interesting take.
It's just ok, not great. I guess I expected more from the hype and the team that gave us that killer Venom run.
