So much of what Aaron has been doing with his end of War of the Realms in the Avengers seems to have been a process of testing various characters for future projects. The Squadron Supreme issue felt a bit off, but this issue and the one before it (featuring Gorilla-Man) show a willingness to further explore aspects of the Marvel Universe that have faded out of the center of the frame in recent months. This closer look at She-Hulk turns out to have been one of the best issues in the whole War of the Realms event thus far. Read Full Review

This volume of the Avengers hasn't won me over as a die-hard fan. But I've liked virtually all of the "hero spotlight" issues it's delivered, and this one is no exception. Jennifer Walters was in desperate need of the attention. Thoughtful words and powerful art deliver a nicely-balanced portrait of a hero struggling to find her balance. It's a decent tie-in to War of the Realms, but its top priority is exploring the evolution of the She-Hulk. And it does that job with superlative skill. Read Full Review
Working as both an insightful character piece, an event tie-in, as well as a great teaser for the Avengers as a book moving forward, Avengers #20 winds up being one of the best single issues the series has delivered in quite some time. Read Full Review

The Avengers continues to be pawns in the War of The Realms. The good thing is that Jason Aaron takes this issue and dedicates it to She-Hulk. She-Hulk has been one of the standout characters of Aaron's run so far, and it was great to see her character given some depth and development. Really good issue focused on She-Hulk battling trolls, frost Giants and herself. She's divided. On one side, being so strong and ugly is kinda good for her, but when she loses control... HULK SMASH!
I thought this was a great issue and that a lot of the backlash surrounding it is from people who don't realize that while status-quos change, they always eventually shift back to what we all know.

Great story with some hick ups in between and beautiful art. Much trolls smashing which was my favorite part. Also if you think this story is attacking you, maybe check yourself first.... but Yes!
There's inevitably some thorny subtext when a male storyteller uses a female character to tackle #metoo matters. And I see how a committed anti-fan could dismiss this issue as virtue signalling. Me? I see enough of a split between how Jason Aaron and Jen Walters approach the matter to make it realistic. Jen *says* villains don't sexually harass her anymore, but Ulik *does*. She comes across as fallible, with that allegorical courtroom conflict extending far past the first scene. She's growing and evolving, and that's pretty rare and remarkable for any character in a big, shared universe like Marvel's.
"And that since happened, she's been doing her best to regain control of herself, to do right by my client and give the world back the gorgeous, green, fun loving bombshell they know and love. But that's a complete lie isn't it ? The truth is... The She-Hulk is dead. And you killer, you monster. "
While not bad, avengers falls short of being great yet again.
The synopsis for this issue makes it seem much more epic than it really is, as Avengers 20 is a character study into She Hulk. It’s pretty intriguing, but this issue was way too drawn out and felt unnecessary. The art was mediocre
I like seeing She-Hulk's character developed, but she does seem to be everywhere in the world, all at once, in one issue.

Well written, as is the case with Aaron, but he gets annoyingly meta and doubles down on angry She Hulk telling us she’s here to stay.
One of Marvel’s smartest funniest characters has become the old boring version of Hulk smash.
So basically Aaron female Avengers are weak, angry She Hulk, a Captain Marvel he does not know how to use (does anybody?) and the founding member and former leader the Wasp relegated to the agents of Wakanda with a bunch of D listers.
This is not She-Hulk.
The art is nice, but that is its only virtue.
Only a step above that terrible JaneThor issue where she fights Absorbing Man and Titania... by giving old Shulkie fans the big middle finger.
I really don't get it why writers feel like taking jabs at the fanbase. It's one thing knowing you can't cater to everyone, but why actually go out of your way to antagonize?
Also, considering what happened with Chelsea Cain fucking up badly just a few weeks ago, maybe using t-shirts to deliver messages is not such a good idea.
