I can understand if people are disappointed with the bait and switch. Maybe you came to the issue to see the heroes go at each other's necks for previous transgressions. After all that's what was advertised. However, I think Jed MacKay was on to something when he allowed these camps to have this moment of fun camaraderie and unwinding. Read Full Review
The hard-hitting battle between teams leads to a lot of wonderful bonding moments, including Tony Stark and Hank McCoy analyzing their respective fascist heel-turns, Storm and Temper having a heart-to-heart, and Kid Omega making the mistake of needling The Vision. Some good comics to be had. Read Full Review
Schiti delivers beautiful art throughout the issue and I loved the visual style of the story. All of the characters look amazing. Read Full Review
Avengers #21 is the kind of surprise we need more of in comics. It joyfully subverts fan expectations, traffics in some well-crafted character development, and is gorgeously illustrated. Whether you're an X-Men fan or an Avengers fan, there's something for you here. Read Full Review
After years of uncomfortable tension between teams, Avengers #21 sees Earth's mightiest heroes reconciling with the X-Men in the most heartwarming superhero tale of the year. Read Full Review
Avengers #21 has the Avengers and X-Men face offin baseball. Dont let the cool cover fool you, its just a fun little get-together between the Avengers and the X-Men. On the one hand, its nice to see the superheroes hanging out and being chummy together a little bit. On the other hand, it could be setup for darker things to come in a future story where they turn on each other, as usual. Hopefully, something more fun and positive comes from this issue and the heroes actually stick together in future stories. Read Full Review
Plot
The Avengers visit the X-Men in Alaska. What initially seems like a confrontation is actually a friendly baseball game. In this installment, they show the pleasant and fun dynamic between both teams, where Carol Danvers and Cyclops create an alliance because the Avengers fear the upcoming events decreed by Kang, called TRIBULATION EVENTS, and the emergence of Doom as the Supreme Sorcerer is one of them.
Art
Full of details that are elevated to another level of quality with different textures, where it successfully shows the superhuman scales of a baseball game between the Avengers and the X-Men
Summary
The X-Men and Avengers create a strategic alliance to face the new threat that is Doctor Doom
This issue certainly has some very cool stuff going for it. Ofc the bait, which is a ''spoiler'' no ''spoiler'', is super well done, i guess it could be interpreted as a jab at avx, but it's deeper than this because the whole issue is centered around it even too much.
The Avengers and the x-men do not really have a reason to be fighting, but at the same time they kinda do, but because they are rational people who have been knowing each other for so long as of right now, and a bunch of they share history they want to be in each other's good graces. On a macro scale the issue does this, it tries to convince the reader that those characters have much in common, that they can be helpful to each other, that they care for each other, more
I enjoy reading the occasional issue where the talking and socialising take precedence over the action, however, it seems that not much is happening in this title at all since I started reading it a few issues ago. I’ve never been a big Avengers fan, but they have had several great runs over the years that I enjoyed, with great art and writing and interesting character dynamics. This isn’t one of those.
The art is very average in my opinion - readable, but rough and not very attractive.
And the writing - let’s just say X-Men and Avengers are my least favorite books right now, and it can’t be coincidence that McKay is writing both of them. Yes, something is happening, but it all feels underwhelming, like a half-assed atte more
This is a complete bait and switch and Jed McKay should be ashamed of himself with "Gotcha" moment. He's been pushing this Avengers v X-Men part 2 and when we get it, it's a baseball game with some mediocre dialogue. This is just an awful, awful book in my opinion, and it shouldn't exist. It's simply Jed Mckay trying to do a crossover with his titles. I'm surprised Moon Knight didn't show up to hit a few homers. I'm going to see what he does with Black Cat and this title is a drop for me.
