There's not much else to say about the issue because Matt Fraction's Hawkeye run has been epic since issue #1. Everything about the series has been perfect and I am really excited for issue #6 which will deal with Clint and Katie during hurricane Sandy in New York City. We also had Matt Fraction make a special appearance in the letters section for some replies. I won't spoil anything but well worth the read. In fact, consistent is a pretty good way to describe Hawkeye. Although some people have missed David Aja for the last two issues (rest easy True Believers, hes back next issue), I feel like this book is going from strength to strength. At once recalling the best of Silver Age Marvel whilst also embracing more modern methods of comics storytelling, Hawkeye continues to be a book that you should be reading. Its a great action book that doesnt wear its superhero heart on its sleeve, and if Fraction and his art team can continue to bring their A-game to the title, itll be a book that youll be reading for a while.  Yep, I loved this issue.  Hell, I loved this entire storyline!  Add the fact that Hawkeye DIDN'T actually kill the terrorist(which would have gone counter to his character), but dangled himself out there as bait to protect the identities of the Navy Seals who did, and you have the recipe for a wonderful comic.  I'm not sure what else to say...  I have nothing bad to say about this comic...  Only good...  Um, buy and read Hawkeye!  There, that should do it for this post! A great issue to what has been a tremendous series. Although the start to this two parter was better than the finish there isn't much between them, and if it wasn't for the minor imperfections in story and art they'd be equal. Hawkeye is a comic that has people talking for a reason. It is worthy of your attention and your pull-list. In what “superhero” comic do you see a guy step on glass with his socking feet and then repeatedly mention how painful it is? That's the kind of stuff that can only work in Hawkeye, and it works so, so well. But in true Matt Fraction fashion, things aren't always what the seem and the final few pages of Hawkeye #5 will remind you how good Fraction is at writing street-level heroes. Clint and Kate Bishop have been in a few pickles before "The Tape", but this is really the first time we get to see the two Hawkeyes in their natural state together, kicking ass and taking names. Hawkeye is one of the best comic book series currently being published and you're doing a diservice to yourself if you read comics and aren't keeping up with this book. As evidenced by most everything he's writing at the moment, Fraction is incredibly gifted at making comics easy and fun to read instead of a chore in backstory and line-wide events. Some people hate it when I don't reveal every single detail of the story in a review, and I can certainly understand that, but the payoff here is so good that to try and explain/recap it would both undermine the coolness of the plotting, and ruin the book for you when you do go pick it up. Suffice to say that it's a rare moment that subverts and plays straight the spy-movie conceit, and it puts Hawkeye #5 in the same class as the first four, cementing the book as one of Marvel's best, earning it 4.5 out of 5 stars overall. As a card-carrying Avenger, Clint Barton may be one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but he's also one of its goofiest. And that's a good thing. Moving between scamp and scrapper with ease, Clint is like the high school dropout James Bond, the guy who's both tragically weird and magnetically cool, all at the same time. He's the superhero we all think we would be yet also desperately would aspire to become. This comic may be about an archer, but archery is just about the last thing that Hawkeye is all about. It's about a guy with perfect aim and a life with less-than-perfect trajectory. And that's what makes him the perfect protagonist. Read Full Review

Javier Pulido is on art duties again, and it's a somewhat mixed bag. It's better than last issue, and there are some really great moments, but it still feels a little off. His style works well for the series, he just doesn't quite click the way that David Aja did. It's not bad, but it is certainly not as good either. Some panels are just missing some attention to details. There's a lack of backgrounds, a lack of scenery and placement. This issue still looks good, just not as good as you would have hoped. What can I say? Fraction's Hawkeye is still an amazing comic. And I'm sure if David Aja was drawing this issue it would get a perfect score. His art is just that damn good and expressive. As it stands, this issue is still just mostly awesome. The story is fun, and the true nature of the tape is a great reveal that I did not see coming. Clint and Kate have some great chemistry, and Madame Masque proved to be a fun villain. Perhaps we'll see some more of her as the series goes forward. I cannot recommend Hawkeye enough, even if you don't particularly care about the character himself (like me). This is just an awesome series. Read Full Review

Nationalism aside, the quality of this book has remained consistent since issue one. Aside from some serious ass-kicking action, there's plenty of character development, clever quips, and vintage heroic comedy contained within these panels. There's something for everybody in 'Hawkeye', so no one should have any excuse to not be buying it. I'm anxiously awaiting the next one, and you should be to. Read Full Review

While the conclusion of 'The Tape' isn't ashilarious as the prior issues, it's still leagues above a vast majority of other comics sitting on the shelves today. Pulido's faces and use of shading can be jarring, although it hardly detracts from the overall enjoyment value of this issue. If you're not following HAWKEYE, you should probably rectify that mistake immediately. Read Full Review

I read these books way fast, like two minutes fast. I guess that speaks to Pulido’s skills of making it flow so hard. He has a very easy on the eyes style that adds to the excitement of the story. There aren’t a lot of words, so Pulido’s strokes are really the driving force behind Hawkeye. I dig this series and am enjoying how each issue is pretty much a one-shot, save for The Tape Part 1 & 2, making it easy to jump on anywhere. My only concern is whether or not Fraction will be able to keep the story fresh. I can already see some redundancies, but that adds to the charm of Fraction’s Hawkeye. I just hope it stays that way. For right now, I’m into it and recommend the series highly, despite this last story, The Tape, being my least favorite so far. Read Full Review
