The first issue of the series gives Spider-Hams world a solidly compelling reality about it that establishes the character really well. With Peter Porker now entering the mainstream Marvel Universe for at least the next issue, the creative team is going to have to switch gears. Though the character originated almost exclusively in his own world, mainstream contemporary audiences are far more familiar with Spider-Ham in a world of humans. Wells and Robson are going to have to come up with a fresh angle on the team-up to maintain audiences as the mini-series continues. This first issue is an auspicious start to a potentially clever new mini-series. Read Full Review
Peter Porker is the Spectacular Spider-Ham, and also a bit of a jerk. That's why his fellow heroes of Larval Earth are aghast when he ganks the job of saving it from a multiversal threat, but the creators easily get us rooting for the swine. They bring Spider-Ham, and his whole world, to life with clean, endearing art and a smart all-ages script. Spider-Ham #1 is a rewarding read in itself and a strong inducement to follow the whole series. Read Full Review

Overall, the issue provides a solid entry point into the world of Spider-Ham. Whether fans of the film or the previous comic books, readers will get to know this hammy hero and see him prepare for yet another inter-dimensional adventure. Wells sets up enough pieces here to cue us into where we will be going next and who we can expect to see come issue #2. Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham #1 proves to be an excellent comic for those younger readers out there looking for a bright, action-and-fun-filled adventure with just enough dry wit that parents will equally enjoy. Spider-Ham deserves his own comic and a more relevant role. So, if this it were it starts, I am fine with it. Peter Porker The Spectacular Spider-Ham #1 is a bit of a reminder that Spider-ham has his own universe, and it feels more like a roster call that a narrative so far. Read Full Review
Pick this one up for a few eye-rolling laughs and the start of what could be a hilarious adventure. As it stands Spider-Ham is set up well for an adventure that'll involve Spider-Man and while it's not the most complex reads it's still entertaining enough. Read Full Review
I'm not entirely sold on the tone, but the art and coloring look great and Peter Porker deserves another shot at solo greatness. Read Full Review
Peter Poker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham #1 ends with the egotist taking the place of the other heroes and jumping universes to hunt down a villain across space and time. His first stop, apparently, is Mary Jane's bedroom? Worth a look. Read Full Review
Well, this was much better than I expected. It was actually funny. I enjoyed myself. Ant Ant is my favorite.
This was loads of fun.
The writer is totally committed to the stupid stupid puns that double as continuity when Spider-Ham is concerned, and I respect the shit out of that!
This was cute.
It's a solid funny animal tale, given a touch of all-ages appeal by characterizing the protagonist as a vainglorious jerk. But the verbose script just plays extra innings in the "Primetime Fox cartoon" game rather than using its density of language to try anything inventive or risky. Excellent art; this is surely a dream assignment for Will Robson.
Zeb Wells is a great writer, so it surprises me how bad this is. The puns are intentionally terrible, and Peter Porker is meant to be a total jerk, but there is only so far you can take this angle, there needs to be something for the reader to grab onto: an endearing character, a compelling plot, jokes that are actually funny... Anything. I wonder if Zeb even wanted to write this or if it was something he had to do to get on Ant-Man after taking a break from comics for a few years. Fingers crossed that his Ant-Man run is more successful.
A stream of unfunny, unoriginal puns telling an uninteresting story about how much of an unliked jerk our titular character is. If you think this is funny, just ask your dad to tell you jokes, it’s cheaper than adding this to your pull list and the jokes will probably be funnier. Unless Zeb Wells is your dad, in which case ask a friends dad.
