With Thor #23 bringing another electrifying arc to a close, where the future will take and perhaps break Thor is anyone's guess. But as always, it's exciting to be along for the ride. Read Full Review
Thor #23 was absolute blast. Donny Cates and Nic Klein do a wonderful job making the reader feel the weight of Odin's death and the new power that Thor achieved in order to take down the God of Hammers. As the story concludes you are left excited for what comes next as even bigger things are on the horizon for this Thor series. Read Full Review
The story ends the way it was always going to end, with Thor defeating the latest all-powerful bad guy. The writing and art remain as strong as ever, I just think the story is getting rather repetitive. Read Full Review
Now, the obvious overarching theme since Cates has taken over THOR has been (in not the best terms) Odinson working on his Daddy issues while learning how to become King. However, Id argue that these 23 issues could easily have been condensed down to 12 which would have made the stories more powerful and legitimately contain more significance. Nevertheless, fans will read this issue, like the prior 6, as if its a blur in under 5 minutes max. I hate to say it fans but I think weve had a large enough sample size to see where this story is going. Granted, Im excited about BANNER OF HULKS mainly because Im a huge HULK fan. Nevertheless, if the story appears to be stagnant after that, I may be on my merry way with Cates THOR. Let me know what you think, have a great week, and God Bless! Read Full Review
Some of the actual hammer bits didn't exactly bring the thunder, and Cates delivers a heavy dose of deus ex machina to bring the finale home, but it's an overall enjoyable cap to the arc. Read Full Review
Another great finale to another entertaining arc for Donny Cates and Nic Klein's Thor. The flashback with Thor and Odin was nice, and I appreciate the reference to it at the end of the issue. I don't really know what to say about this issue other than it was just really good. Nic Klein's art is killer and the ending is surely intriguing. Along with that, Donny Cates knows how to write a damn book.
And THERE is the "epic" I was looking for.
… In retrospect, this issue captured my love just with that heartbreaking intro flashback. The balance of the story is in line with the rest of the arc, which I've been rating about a point lower. But damn, what am I gonna do, penalize this one because its storytelling is TOO effective?
Great finale to the arc and some of the best art I've seen from Nic Klein this run. Only con was Angela still feeling kind of shoehorned in. There's also some pretty blatant MCU synergy inserted at the end, but it worked for the issue.
This series is still good.
I liked it. It was well drawn, had action and some good moments.
Good enough to be enjoy, the fight scene are dynamic and good. But in term of story not really that deep.
The family themes are good but the resolution seems kind of lazy.
Cates can keep us guessing until we get to the end. Then we find out it's something stupid like captain universe.
