I've said it and I'll say it again: this is a sad story. A really sad one. It'd been a long time since I had to pause my reading to take a breath - maybe a quick cry - before gathering the courage to keep on reading. I make the effort to highlight, then, that this is a piece of art which displays a mastery of the comic book medium. Windsor-Smith took thirty years to be able to write and publish this comic and it shows.

Like I mentioned before, once you get past all the "Portland is awesome is stuff and I'm not saying it isn't! this is just a cool street-level superhero helping out common folk as best he can. I look forward to seeing more of the plot as both Wagner and Schkade's have yet to use more of their background on the writing. But I really recommend picking this up.

Sidequest is a nice read for a new fan of fantasy setting RPGs like me. I do see a lot of potential for the plot but we'll have to wait and see if that comes to. Overall it's a nice and easy read if you're looking for something to relax but there's not much innovation yet in this first issue.

Godfell presents a new and engaging world with a promising albeit small cast of characters.

The second chapter of Kaya focuses more on building the relationships between characters in a less engaging issue than the first one, but still pretty good.

If it's not obvious yet I freaking loved the first issue of Damn Them All and I can't wait for the next one. It's an interesting reimagining of a beloved classic comic and it works so damn well. Extreme recommendation for John Constantine fans.

Amber's story is finally starting to pick up which ought to give her a stronger charisma while also reducing the weird narration.

Wynd: Throne in the Sky is building a lot on the universe's lore as well as on developing the characters accompanied with the pleasant and unique style we know from the original title.

Kaya is just an aggregate of really well-crafted artworks. The junction of a well-written story, and charming artwork with immersive coloring and lettering make for what's known as a pretty good comic book. If you're a fan of Wes Craig's work and interested in original stories told in post-apocalyptic settings.

Despite its very interesting synopsis Loaded Bible: BOMB fails to live up to its predecessor. If the original series had the weird and cool theme whilst also having a compelling story and characters the sequel focused only on the first part and forgot the latter. It's a fun action comic but fails to innovate in any way.

Blood Stained Teeth #3 carries on nicely what was proposed in the beginning. I'm still excited to see the plot developed further however. In the meantime each issue is a phenomenal work of art and definitely worth the read if you love comic books.

This comic stuck with me. Not only because of the plot, the characters or the artwork but how well it is so much better than the sum of his parts. I highly recommend this, especially for fans of Vampire the Masquerade who need to fill the void of a cool vampire secret clan.

This feels like a comic crafted by a group of people that loves the medium and has a lot to learn. Break Out is off to a nice start and some elements should get polished as it progresses. Definitely check this one out if you're a sci-fi fan as well as a heist fan.

This book bears great potential. The premise is engaging and the art is decent. It could develop the story in a brand new way - which is saying a lot considering it's an Alice in Wonderland adaptation. But the writing needs more engagement, otherwise I don't believe readers will come back next month.

Rogue Sun is off to a great start. Though the story has much yet to progress the team seems to have a nice grip on where they're headed and I'm pretty hyper about the mystical approach to the story so far. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Ordinary Gods #4 is overall a nice read. It doesn't really progress the story other than the Trickster getting activated. If you're following this series for the story, maybe wait until the next issue is out so you can read both at once. It is however a beautiful display in its lines, colors and letters.

This comic came as an excellent surprise in the middle of a difficult week at work. It reminded me of the first titles from Image Comics I was interested in, with an underlying mystery plot told in a bold and innovative way. I cannot recommend this enough.

BRZRKR is starting its new phase with issue #5 as it focuses now on the government's interest in the immortal god rather than on B's past. It's, yet again, a certain recommendation for any fans of Wolverine (specially from the Mark Millar run) as it tells a tragic story of an undying being who only wishes to rest with an amazingly talented creative team.

Honestly, I wasn't very interested in this comic at first. A bushcrafting superhero sounded fun but I really didn't consider the social political facets that could be applied right from the beginning. Not only that there's immense promise of this growing into a long run series as well as having its spin offs so it makes me quite excited to see where the creative team can go from here.

This was a cool first volume. It mostly developed the world of Geiger instead of its main character, but it was an enjoyable story and the mystery did good to Tariq's persona as a ghost of the apocalypse. I did get disappointed with the unified cannon approach they're going with. Especially this soon. It did affect my experience reading this last issue but that doesn't mean this isn't a nice superhero story which brings the experience of an incredibly talented team of artists forth.

I hyped this book hard and, boy oh boy, has my hype been worth it. Echolands delivers from issue one and it leaves the reader craving more. More of the story, the world, the art and everything surrounding it. I recommend this book, without a doubt.

Vinyl started off with a great first chapter. A compelling story, art and makes for a fun and exciting read. This was just the beginning of the story and it feels a lot has already developed. This series has great potential and I cannot recommend it enough if you're a fan of slasher stories.

Jupiter's Legacy: Requiem is not without its flaws but it is off to a fantastic start. It seems Millar has an endgame for the story and I hope he maintains the quality level to this franchise as it is, in my personal opinion, his best independent work. The artwork is wonderful and innovative and I cannot wait for more of it.

This series bares great potential, really it does. The plot is not new but it isn't bad either. However, the mess that are the characters made me feel like I can't read any further. I just really don't care about any of them and don't want to read more. It can be a great series but this was a bad first issue mostly due to that. The art is off at some places but it gets the job done with some nice details for the keen-eyed reader. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this.

BRZRKR is a nice read for fans of lone wolf and vagabond stories. It's not necessarily groundbreaking but it's nice work put together by a dedicated team.

Ultramega continues to deliver. From chapter one I knew this had potential, but it is really good seeing the level quality is the main goal. The creative team deserves tons of applause for the consistency in their work and how each part complements the other. It's an exciting new take on a western comic with tons of eastern influence.

The third chapter of this amazing and innovative story finally did it and got me truly hooked. Dwelling in the past of your should-be villain and giving them a heart always makes it interesting. I'll continue to recommend this series, if not for the plot itself, then for the talented and refreshing artwork on it.

View Issue       View Full Review

This was a bit of a slow first issue. Most of the world is yet to be revealed and we know very little about anything. Regardless it is obvious that these creators who have had big hits in the past are aiming for a new one. And in this one, they have a lot more creative freedom. So, despite it being fast and not that exciting of a read, I look forward to the rest of Tariq's story in the USA nuclear apocalypse.

Hill's work shines as well in this issue with a lot of explosions, screams and ominous voices from God of Blades. The letters are essential in this chapter to help bring forth the chaos that has just erupted in the story and help immerse the reader into the comic by overlapping some of the sound effects.

Home Sick Pilots' creative team continues to be amazing at what they're doing and deliver an original story and setting. The series' lore is yet to expand as we see in this issue and I'm excited for that most of all. I did like Watter's approach to describing an abusive relationship but there are still somethings I don't understand with this book. However, for this reviewer, this is all the more reason to keep reading it for now.

For someone who was expecting Nocterra to be plain and visceral, this was a huge and most welcome surprise. No doubt the creative team has big plans for this title and I recommend any fan of post-apocalyptic science fiction to pick it up and give it a try.

Whew! A lot to go over. Crossover not only has a stunning plot that is worthy of any comic book reader's attention but also a precise and coordinated composition of many talents in order to best portray the colliding of two different realities. The goal is to immerse the reader into this event and how it would truly affect normal, everyday people. Every new issue will be a new recommendation from me for this series because of the bold proposition delivered with awesome execution.

Although the story has yet to properly take off it is undeniable that The Picture of Everything Else is the composition of many talents perfectly fit together. As I mentioned before, this comic will be a heck of a ride and I look forward to see just how far things will escalate.

Readers beware! This is not a nice story about drivers missing their homes. This is an incredible horror comic book about fitting in and handling change. With a talented creative team working together this series is bound to enter the industry's history with a nice change to the haunted manor story frame.

Post Americana may have come during a time quite too close to its own fictional world. However, the story progresses a lot differently than what we're seeing nowadays so it's up to us to relax, lean back, and read this amazing comic composed by, honestly, a ridiculously talented set of artists.

Although the plot didn't hook me in just yet, I see incredible potential for a great turn down the line in the mini-series which should feel like a reward just as valuable as the gold the characters are seeking. The artwork is astonishing, to say the least and I hope it continues to mesmerize.

This was an epic first volume. As I mentioned early this could have just been another fantasy hero's journey. It was a hero's journey, but not just another one. Wynd takes many established tropes as a guide but never as a rule and the talented team behind it gives this comics soul that reflects just how much passion and dedication was put into this project. Wynd's story is not over. This was just the beginning and I, for one, cannot wait for the next chapter.

As someone who was excited to see how Dune would end up on a comic format, I have to say I was a little bit disappointed. Although the artwork was, indeed really good, it got obfuscated by the crazy amount of plots and just plain bad writing which violates the pinnacle rule of visual storytelling: show, don't tell. I hope this series eventually picks up seeing as Dune has a tremendous potential and I'd love to see it done properly on comics eventually.

Being a Rick Remender title, The Scumbag has already drawn attention on its release due to the writer's (rightfully occurring) hype. However Image's new series is off to a promising start as we all expected. Not only because of Remender's skillful writing but also because of an incredibly talented team that is creating this new title with him. I definitely recommend giving The Scumbag a read to see if it's for you, because it is definitely for me.

Overall this was a fantastic read. I hadn't read a crime story since last year so it's refreshing to have a go after all this time and get this much quality. If you're a fan of crime comics then you're definitely picking this up for it is even better than the first iteration and I'm expecting it to maintain that standard.

I'm not really a big avid medieval fantasy reader but I really enjoyed reading Wynd. The experience set up by the amazingly assembled cast of professionals really comes across. The fact that every issue is double the length of regular ones also helps as this is a comic you should really enjoy if you take a while, sit down and take it all in.

If you've read up to this point and you're a fan of The Boys original comic book series and any previous installations. If you've only watched the show, maybe it's time to catch up on the slightly different plot points between comic and TV series in order to be able to keep up with this new title. With a great return of a legendary cast of artists, I, for one, am relieved and satisfied with the quality of this new iteration and cannot wait for the next issue.

Twin Worlds was a great surprise for me. I'm not the biggest fan of epic sagas but the boldness of combining science fiction and fantasy is always an interesting hook. Stealth presents yet a new twist to the superhero genre of comics and it does so with masterful storytelling created by an amazing team of artists who give this new vision all the charm it deserves. Finger Guns #1, despite being quite standard for the first issue presents a promising start to a series with an interesting premise and great potential to hit top sales this year. This issue presents gorgeous art and is worth picking up for getting to know the characters.

Once I dove into Money Shot I was expecting a light sci-fi set up with a lot of sex jokes and a plot focusing on comedy. John Constantine: Hellblazer's first arc is concluded. It was a tremendously good one to begin with. The cast of artists could not have been a better one since it feels, throughout all three issues which compose this arc, that all the members of this creative team made it together, in the same room with a passion for the project. Now it's official: John Constantine is back and I, for one, cannot wait for more of his stories.

The Clock presented an incredibly interesting plot which sadly started with poor execution in its first chapter. There is, as I mentioned before, obvious potential, and I sincerely hope that the quality picks up in future issues.

View Issue       View Full Review

This second chapter has developed the mystery a bit further as well as set up John's new "friendships" for something that should come down the line. It may feel something of a rehash of the last issue, but it makes sense since Constantine is still getting a grip of London nowadays and is handling a location-based situation. The next chapter is the finale of the first arc and from what I've learned of this creative team, it should be a ride.

Like mentioned at the beginning of the review, I loved how well paired Simmonds' style got with Hill's storytelling and despite my regards about the fight scene, the plot and the art are more than enough to convince me to keep up with this comic and see just how wonderful and gritty it can get.

Despite not being a great fan of the artwork, the plot and characters have interested me deeply and I cannot wait for the next issue to come out. I also hope the series doesn't extend itself beyond needed, feeling much more, at least for now, like a great mini-series instead of a new ongoing.

White Trees was a quick and blessing breeze which came along as fast as it went away. Yet, it is easily one of the best fantasy comics of the year because whatever the team chose to do, they did it right. If you don't like the story you'll like the characters, if not that the artwork. Fairlady departs from our lives far too early as it was just starting to outline its major plot. It was a beautiful project performed by a group of deeply talented artists who I'll make sure to follow from this point on. For that, I can only thank them for giving us a small taste of what could've been.

This is a solid first issue. The writing presents us the world, as well as some main characters and the artwork, makes the reading compelling though it might not to that to everyone. Despite that, the creative team appears to have a good alignment of what this project is about and is delivering precisely what was intended which, for me, looks incredible!

Overall, this was a really fun to read series. Charismatic characters, exciting mystical action and a pinch of actual terror here and there. Punk Mambo ends with a tease for a sequel, however, in case it doesn't get one, this was a great series on it's own. It presents a quirky combination of ideology and mysticism while maintaining an interesting plot with a marvelous artwork all the way through the end.

This was a spectacular surprise in my pull list as I knew nothing of this comic before reading it and now I can't get enough. This series is off to a great start. It combines elements that we know such as a political struggle in a fantastic world as well as the expendable misfit team we all love, yet it add new elements and its own spin on just how weird these characters are. There's still a lot to explore in the main group as well as in the comic's universe making this chapter a must read set up for what's to come.

Test's first issue puts in a motion a new sci-fi story which should involve conspiracy, futuristic paraphernalia and fighting off against establishment rules in a interesting remix of many familiar elements by a talented team.

Although I did think the ending was fitting considering the direction the story's taken, it is predictable that many readers may not think the same way. There's a lot that's deconstructed in the last pages, but, at least for this reviewer, it doesn't feel rushed. It's all been coming to this point the difference is it actually happened, there's no sudden twist or change. The story flows as it should. Though some may find that a bit dull I think it's just what such a good story as this one deserves.

The conclusion for Meet the Skrulls is an outstanding wrap-up of everything that was constructed over the five issues of the series and, as a gift, Thompson gave Marvel a new set of already beautifully developed characters to work on. To anyone who hasn't picked up this series, this is the moment I tell you to do it and guarantee you won't regret it. After having read the Secret Invasion event back in 2009, I say confidently that Meet the Skrulls, as its title suggests is, at last, a proper introduction to the culture and the struggle of this classic Marvel alien race.

This first issue is a funny and entertaining read and it feels good to get a new story about GLOW's lovely characters, but it merely scratched the TV series' already displayed potential to present heartfelt and heavier story lines. I liked this issue a lot. It shows us a promising universe and interesting characters. But, as I mentioned before, this is what Millar's appears to do best and, even with Bianchi's art, I consider it wise to not get my hopes up too high, just so I don't get disappointed with Millar's writing yet again. The Magic Order presents us with interesting characters and an interesting universe. Sadly that is what seems to make Millar's writing: great narrative construction but average narrative conduction as it has been a while since I read something of his that didn't feel rushed at the end.
