BATMAN VS. EQUILIBRIUM! It’s Batman versus Equilibrium in a brutal battle to save every single person the Dark Knight has rescued…ever! The stunning conclusion to the epic series!
Batman: The Detective #6 delivers in every sense. Equilibrium has proven to be a brand new nemesis for the Dark Knight that lives up to the thrill levels we've come to expect from a member of one of the greatest rogues' galleries in all of fiction. Any story that can give us a villain worthy of the World's Greatest Detective will automatically plant itself very highly on my “Must read” list. When you also get incredible art, perfectly delineated characters, and enough action to make Holly wood jealous, the final result is a series I'd give to any new reader and say, “Here… check this out!” Read Full Review
The final chapter of this series nicely wraps up this tale and ends in a tragic, yet heartwarming manner. Read Full Review
Unlike all the other future Batman stories where Batman seems to be more bitter, more brutal, and more alone, it feels like Bruce Wayne is coming out of this one wiser and with a better view of what it takes to make a difference. That's the Tom Taylor effect " he can take old tropes and make them feel completely fresh. Read Full Review
The second conflict deals with the imprisonment of Squire's mom who was a smuggler caught when she was saving a life. Bruce is able to use his connections to allow her early release. By highlighting the strength of character in both Batman and Bruce Wayne, Taylor elevated this issue and really shows us the hero's heart. This is an excellent issue really bringing together all the elements of this series into a taut finale. Read Full Review
This is an interesting story with a very real-world message. Good or bad, all of our actions have consequences, and the sooner we realize that the better. The story is fantastic, thought-provoking, and action-packed with high stakes. Read Full Review
Pretty art and a competent story make for a routine but solid Batman Finale. Read Full Review
Batman: The Detective #6 ends this near-feature European Vacation with a little backstory on Squire, the reveal of Equilibrium's big plan, and a final conflict that ends with a phone call. Equilibrium has the potential to be one of Batman's better, crazier entries in his rogue's gallery, but this story won't be remembered for much else. Read Full Review
Batman: The Detective #6 is a fitting end to a series that never quite lived up to its potential. There's much to like, but it suffers from shallow thinking, poor planning, and a self-sabotaged climax. If you've been trade-waiting this book, I suggest you find it at your local library before investing the money. Read Full Review
At its end Batman: The Detective threatens to interrogate some of the troubling premises beneath Batman's law-and-order modus operandi; it never quite goes there but gets close enough to give readers something to chew on. Read Full Review
Solid ending to a great series
A solid ending to a mini-series that is really enjoyable.
I won't say this series ends on a thud as it does slowly deflate on its way to the end. Much like DC's many other minis out there right now, the 6 issue treatment, plus a two month delay here and there, doesn't do wonders for its pacing.
Overall an ok series but not exactly begging for a re-read. It's a rare misstep for Tom Taylor, and even the Andy Kubert art feels "boxy" for lack of a better term. Everyone looks and feels like a Minecraft character. I know he can do better.
This is pretty good. I'm not in love with it, or anything. I mean, it's yet another Batman comic so... As long as DC decides to publish so much Batman, the individual impact of each miniseries tends to wither a bit, at least in the moment. Maybe this will be a classic collected edition that is looked back on fondly. But... I doubt it will.
Also, Merlyn still doesn't have reading comprehension. Yawn.
A decent ending.
I'm a huge fan of Tom Taylor but this whole story just felt like a dud and not up to his usual caliber at all. Similar to Justice League Last Ride which was another mediocre story by a fantastic writer.
The best part of this issue is that it's finally over. If it stayed on schedule I may not have lost interest as I did, but there were at least 3 months of delays through this series. Plus the fact the story really just got less interesting as it went on. Plus this was really a way less interesting plotline than I expected at the start. Though I find it not unnatural these days, because Batman stories nowadays tend to grow less interesting as they develop. Maybe they should be shorter, like they used to be.
This is Tom Taylor so of course we get another good dose of propaganda, this time against the U.S. military. It's par for the course with this guy at this point. And of course Batman gets preached about the system and how everything is his fault because in Tom Taylor's mind it's always the fault of the straight white male for everything. And in case the classic idiot will come here to cry "you're a conspiracy theorist, Taylor has nothing against straight white males", he literally just said on CNN that he turned Jon bi because he didn't want "yet another straight white male savior". Which, of course, isn't racist or sexist or anything, everybody knows those straight white males are just awful and it's ok to characterize an entire group of pmore
