We are so close to officially having the Justice League in action. With Darkseid on the scene, there is some major destruction. He's proving to be quite an adversary for the heroes in the "New 52" and he barely has to do anything. Geoff Johns continues to develop the characters in their 'early days' and we're already seeing changes and they try to figure out how to get through this battle. Jim Lee and Scott Williams keep the action going with their amazing layouts that remind fans why they love seeing their work. With so many team members in the book, most of them are left standing around with nothing to say or do. Hopefully this won't be the case in the next explosive issue. JUSTICE LEAGUE is like a treat for the fans and I don't want it to end. Read Full Review

The book shipped a week late but don't let that mess you up. The DC reboot did a lot of good things, but it did leave some things to be desired among fans. With Marvel producing four different Avengers books, it's fun and exciting to see the other super team find its wings. This was the best book since the first issue and everyone needs to come back in February. Read Full Review

The art in this issue is simply amazing. Jim Lee's art has been the star of this series so far and while the script is picking up nicely, Lee's art is still doing it's part. Read Full Review

I think with the next couple of issues we are going to see a lot of great story with Darkseid and the Justice League. I am excited to pick up the next couple of issues. Every issue should make you excited to pick up the next issue and I am glad this one did. Something I loved about this issue was the art and great action. I only thought this issue had some minor problems, but was a great read and great addition to this series. I say pick up this issue and if you are not reading Justice League yet it is a great spin on one of our favorite superhero teams. Read Full Review

Chuck's Comic Of The Day - Chuck Jan 26, 2012

Geoff Johns' story has certainly kicked things into high gear, and it's difficult to see how the League can stand up to a powerhouse like Darkseid - but that's all part of the fun! Read Full Review

Overall, I liked how Geoff Johns crafted a story that felt new, accommodating, and exciting. This kind of work gets me more acclimated to the 'New 52' (how long do I have to call it that?). Read Full Review

Look, Justice League #5 is still a fun ride, it just doesn't offer much depth -- or, better yet, the depth it does offer is suspect -- and the artwork lacks consistency and feels lazy at points. But I have to admit, I'm still a sucker for the Justice League fighting Darkseid. I always will be. And for that, Justice League #5 was worth my money. Read Full Review

Here's hoping Johns and Lee can dig a little deeper into the League's heads next go-round. Read Full Review

I don't know what it's going to finally take to get me to drop this title. I feel like there's some journalistic need to keep following it, at least until this first 'here's how we got together' arc mercifully ends, but this series isn't good. It's fair to middling, and that's sad, because it's supposed to be the damn flagship. Read Full Review

At some point, this issue ceased to be about a team and more about a couple guys and their tagalongs. Johns has to rectify this soon, or this title will soon lose its credit and reputation. Read Full Review

    Heretical Jargon - Heretic Feb 2, 2012

Darkseid seems to be an aimless character so far. Surely things will develop further with him, as well as giving the League something more to go off of than constantly bickering at each other. Read Full Review

As you can see, I'm a little conflicted here. The slow pace, clear predilection for writing for the trade, and the high pricetopage ratio are definite turnoffs, but it's not all bad. Jim Lee's art is terrific (even if I didn't really mention it at all above), the action is solid, and there are some genuine character moments buried underneath it all. I'd say if you can swallow the ridiculous price, then why not? Otherwise, waiting for the trade is the way to go. They way this thing's getting written, there can be no doubt that one is coming. Speaking of my dumb adult brain; only 4 instances in the entire book where a DC Comics ad didn't take up 1/2 of the whole spread and the back up is still as useless as Wonder Woman is to the league (seriously, why is she even on the team?) This is probably DC's best selling advertising book. Read Full Review

I still really enjoyed this issue, despite all my whining. It was filled with action from Darkseid, Flash, Green Lantern and Batman with a great last page of the whole team heading out to take down their first villain as a team. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Jan 27, 2012

Up to this point I was enjoying Justice League but Justice League #5 has me considering dropping the title. The issue as a whole was a complete miss with me. Geoff Johns has completely dragged the first story arc of DC Comics flagship title to its maximum. Add to the fact that outside of Batman and Green Lantern the Justice League members have not been fully developed it makes this series hard to get behind. I will be giving the next issue a chance but I now have my expectations extremely low and it will be the deciding issue for the series staying on my pull list. Read Full Review

"Justice League" in general has had an extremely up-and-down first storyline, and this one is further proof of that. Fortunately we've still got another issue in which to see everything click back into place. I think Johns and Lee can do it, but for now this feels like an unfortunate step backwards. Alas, if Justice League can re-focus itself on something beyond the action sequences, there's still hope that it can reclaim its honorary position as the flagship title of DC Comics' 'New 52' lineup. Read Full Review

Seroiously DC, WTF? I know Geoff Johns is capable of writing better dialogue and stories than this. However, I'm growing less and less sure that “artist” Jim Lee (and I use that term loosely) is capable of putting a panel of the Justice League together that doesn't look completely half-assed and photoshopped. An early contender for worst comic of the year – Pass. Read Full Review
