The Mayor Fisk storyline continues to be extremely well written and tense. I loved the tension between Fisk and Murdock and the competing mysteries of Muse and Fisk are engaging. Read Full Review
Daredevil #598 is a gloriously horrific installment to Hornhead's series. With its noir-by-way-of-a-horror-movie pacing, an enthralling plot, and wonderful artwork by Garney and Milla, this comic becomes an easy recommendation for those with the stomach for it. Give it a read. Read Full Review
This week brings us Daredevil #598 written by Charles Soule and drawn by Ron Garney. We continue the term of Mayor Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin. The honorable mayor's plans to crack down on New York City's superheroes have been interrupted by the escaped super villain, Muse. The faceless dissident has taken to vandalizing government buildings with superhero-inspired art, opposing Mayor Fisk's hardline stance against them. Matt Murdock, the newly appointed deputy mayor and veteran hero known as Daredevil, has his work cut out for him. He has to utilize his legal expertise as well as his heroic gifts to push against Mayor Fisk's administration and Muse's dangerous presence. Read Full Review
The tale that Charles Soule is weaving is compelling, and an absolute win for Marvel Storytelling. Read Full Review
A gritty noir style thriller which every Daredevil comic should be. The Kingpin as mayor is a nice Touch of Evil as Daredevil's chief antagonist got what he wanted, and legally too! It's fun to watch Matt Murdock attempt to control his arch-nemesis from within his own round table and this team does a superb job of building the suspense as to where Muse will strike next as they try to track him down. It's a great read and leaves the reader in anticipation for the next issue. **** (8.9 rating) Read Full Review
Overall, I havebeen liking the Mayor Fisk storyline that has been going on and is leading up to issue 600.Daredevil #598 just feels a little bit too much like a filler issue though. Things happen, but the story does not get pushed forward too much. It is nice to have Ron Garney back on art to give the series a little darker tone that feels needed for the storyline.Daredevil #598 is not a bad issue; it just feels like a placeholder for bigger things to come. Charles Soule continues his systematic destruction of the characters I enjoyed at the beginning of his run on Daredevil. One can only hope this is the precursor to his leaving the title for good. Read Full Review
Muse is back, Fisk's plan to change the city is slowly revealed and Matt is stuck between them. Garney is back on art duty and once again he elevates the issue. This just might be the best arc yet!
Everything is beginning to come together for the big 600th issue as Blindspot’s nemesis Muse joins the fray. This continues to be the best arc of Soule’s run and is better than a lot of Waid’s arcs as well. Ron Garney delivers his best art yet
Muse has a weird power set that is difficult to pin down, but he's cool. I like the subtle conflict under the surface between Matt and Fisk.
Muse takes aim at Mayor Fisk in a serial killer artist vein as Matt Murdock & Daredevil pursue more superhero-y solutions. This is a stylish chapter with a scalpel-clever script. The pacing is a little iffy, though, with Muse's scene at the end (his NYPD fight in particular) getting shortchanged in the rush to squeeze so much into this issue. It does a good job of ratcheting up the stakes and pushing the plot forward, but this issue isn't a payoff in its own right.
Daredevil continues to be a book with great art and a personal story. I really like how Soule writes Daredevil and the tension is building with every issue between Murdock and Fisk.
Great cover. Unfortunately, the inside art continues to be very disagreeable but the storyline is interesting enough to keep me anxious for the big #600. The return of Muse is good to see; the return of the black costume is bad to see. villain Mayor Fisk is an dramatic concept but it would work more convincing if it were already apparent in more of the big mainstream books. And it's odd to see a book come out later than the developments gone by for reforming Black Cat and cut down Diamondback.
Art: 3/5
Story: 3.5/5
Total: 6.5/10
I'll be honest. This arc seems to be getting lots of love but it's just not for me. I'm finding it a bit boring. Been there, seen that.
