Overall. A great issue with some brilliant stuff being set up for future issues. Read Full Review
Overall this book continues to dive deep into magic and bring us tons of Otherworld lore. There's some bold things that happen in this issue and they have me very excited to see the impact they will have not only on Otherworld, but Krakoa as well. Read Full Review
For older fans of Excalibur its nice to see Meggan continuing to play a role in this story and to be able to have a voice of her own. Although, I do wish her and Jubilee would have more of an impact like the other characters do. I am very curious how this creative team will reveal what Merlin has planned with Arthur. Even with a time jump, the latest issue of Excalibur is still pretty overstuffed with long building unresolved plotlines that just continue to be built upon. There are engaging really great action pieces and moments that are beautifully rendered by the art team that helps make the issue move along somewhat. That being said, a break from Otherworld at this point might really help this book find some new ground, and find more for most of the cast to actually do. Read Full Review
There is still so much magical confusion mixed with partial plots and underdeveloped character voices. And frankly, I think the stories have way too many characters for Howard to handle at one time. In order to save this series, we need a new creative team or a new focus centered around Captain Britain. Now, even though EXCALIBUR #22 offers an intriguing setup with Merlyn, Saturnyne, and Captain Britain for the future, I cant help but feel like this series is on thin ice. Let me know what you think, have a great week, and God bless! Read Full Review
Excalibur ditches the gala and goes back to the fantasy-inspired tale, featuring gorgeous pencils from Marcus To. Read Full Review
Excalibur #22 is a transitory chapter and, while what comes next seems ready to reinvent this series, much of what readers have to find here will be a familiar breakdown of the past while the future is still being considered. Read Full Review
This issue is fun! The team goes on a mission to break into Merlin's castle while Pete Wisdom begins planning his revenge on Coven Akkaba. There's a lot going on here but Howard has improved in her abilities to juggle multiple characters and plots.
This is exciting to me. I hope it goes somewhere!
I think Tini Howard is the right writer for Excalibur. Her work sings with the Otherworld stuff and bringing back these obscure telepaths from Marvel UK is badass! I love me some obscure mutants.
That said, I don't think Gambit fits at all in this title. I don't think Jubilee especially fits, though I wish Shogo dragon baby would just stay in Otherworld and free her up to be fun again.
I'm not ashamed to admit that for a good portion of Excalibur, I don't really know what's going on. I can assume it's all part of some bigger narrative, but a lot of it just goes over my head. That said, I was glad to see Pete Wisdom come back and I'm interested/excited for S.T.R.I.K.E.
I'll be honest, it confused me a bit, it was nice to read it but at the same time it felt like things were unfinished.
Plants some seeds for futures issues, seems like interesting stuff gonna happen. Low score because character are bland AF
Betsy leads Excalibur against Merlyn and Pete Wisdom gears up to take on Coven Akkaba. I found this to be a very scattershot issue, digressing to world-build while leaving the coming conflicts with a shortage of tension. And I begin to see why others have had problems with this volume's character work. I'm not a big Gambit fan, but I'm pretty sure he can be written better than *this*. I also took an instant dislike to the shucks-howdy Sheriff of Blightspoke, whose scene doesn't seem to have any bearing on … anything. At least the art remains a treat.
