Fans have been wanting a confrontation between Venom and Superior Spider-Man and that's what we get here. This is where you'll find out the fate of Flash Thompson and Superior Spider-Man joining with the Venom suit. It's fitting that this is an over-sized issue because there is so much action and story plots going on. While we have the main story, we also have a lot building in the background. Humberto Ramos captures the excitement required from the script and there's so much to see in each panel. This is one of the most exciting Superior Spider-Manissues in the run to date. By the end of the issue Octavius is back to his scheming deceptive ways but by now very few people are buying it. While I am happy that Peter is making his return I freely admit that Superior has been a very good book and in many ways wish there will be a way both Amazing and Superior could coexist. Maybe Slott has the way that can happen and for a lifelong die-hard Peter Parker fan that's saying volumes. Superior Spider-Manwon me over and for those who jumped off after Amazing #700 you are doing yourself a disservice. Much has to happen before April and I for one am looking forward to what's to come. This book is a must read for any Spiderman fan, whether you have been following The Superior Spiderman or not. All fans of Spiderman are waiting for Peter Parker to return, and with this book we get the hope back, and it is safe to assume that within the next few issues we may actually be getting what we have been waiting for. All in all, this issue is really wonderful, except as great as an artist as Humberto Ramos is (and he really is) I do however hope they change artists soon, as this look of The Spider-Man world, I've grown quite bored of. Gage and Slott have created a fast paced and action heavy issue that artist Humberto Ramos converts to some great pages. While the big monstrous Venom look can be divisive he still makes it clear with things like the webshooters still being visible, all be it covered up but its also the smaller details that can go under appreciated such as when he's free of the symbiote his posture is just “so Otto”. While seeing multiple colourists can cause problems the transition in between is seamless which is much to the issue's benefit. With the end being in sight for this story plot points that have been juggled about are really starting to come to ramp up as Goblin Nation is almost here. Read Full Review

This issue was a great conclusion to the Darkest Hours arc. Unfortunately information leaked online revealing that Dan Slott is going to write Amazing Spider-Man #1, which reveals Peter's return. Superior Spider-Man is largely focused on one thing here, and that's the fight between him and the Avengers while he's becoming Superior Venom. There's a lot of good action here that's well designed with its layouts and detail, giving it a great kind of kinetic energy that keeps the flow going. It also does some good stuff with the banter and the quick thinking that Octavius tries to pull in when he realizes that the Symbiote was gaining control and influence over him and he attempts to bring everything back to a semblance of normal to keep fooling the Avengers. But it's always the unexpected that trips you up and Octavius has tripped several times and people are starting to notice. It's a lot of fun and full of the right kind of big action pieces that makes it a very enjoyable read. Especially with the tease about what may really end up throwing him off in the end. There is a lot happening in this issue and it is being handled very well by both writers. Essentially it's one giant slugfest as we see the Avengers trying to take down the Superior Venom, while in the background the Green Goblin steps up his game to take down the Hobgoblin. Enough attention is payed to all the plot threads happening throughout the issue, without the book feeling like it's losing its main goal of setting up future story arcs. Read Full Review

Overall, this issue was the culmination of a lot of things that we have all been questioning about this series and it all happened in such a great way. Slott brought together a number of things that we've come to know and love about Spider-Man and reinvigorate them to be something almost completely new. Venom, Spider-Man's relationship with Mary Jane and the Avengers, and the Green Goblin are just a few of the things that the writer has made his mark on and it's been great to follow along as it all unfolded. There are so many pieces put into motion by Slott and co-writer Christos Gage all leading up to the promisingly dark War of the Goblins. Superior Spider-Man #25 is a fun action packed comic book. Excellent writing and just great plotting have given Otto's reign as the wall-crawler a memorable one. Hopefully, Marvel manages to somehow keep Otto involved in the storyline even after the real Peter Parker returns. Read Full Review

I've always liked Ramos' art, and he draws a really wild Venom. Superior Venom just looks awesome, and holding his own against the Avengers was fun to read " even if they came off as secondary, considering Tony Stark had to save the day, then had to prove they were all idiots for getting snookered by Octavius. You may be wondering why I called this one of the best issues, considering there is so much wrong with it. Well, thats how terrible Superior has been. The Goblin War stuff is almost guaranteed to be dreadful, so it might be a good idea to wait until the new Amazing Spider-Man #1. This is possibly the first issue in a while where I've not been completely wowed by this series. It has all the parts in play, but when they all come together, it doesn't form as cohesive a whole as the issues that came before it. The lack of Spider-Man could be a reason why, but I feel like this isn't something that should be a problem " Spider-Man has one of the richest supporting casts of all the Marvel heroes, so there's no reason why they couldn't hold an issue on their own. I think it's just a case of having the stakes too high, the ending a little too predictable, and a cliffhanger that we've seen before. At least with Goblin Nation on the horizon, there's bound to be plenty more thrills and spills that will wash this issue out of the memory easily. Read Full Review

25 issues in, Superior Spider-Man has done good things for Marvel's friendly neighborhood webslinger, but all things must come to an end. There is still a lot of room for Dan Slott and company to compare and contrast Otto Octavius and Peter Parker, but right now the high concept seems to trump the characterization. And that's a shame - while its a necessary evil to pave the way for Peter Parker's return, I can't help but feel that Superior Spider-Man is getting the short shrift in his own series.
