Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of a Beats of Burden comic. The characterisation of the individual dogs is excellent and I really enjoyed the sharp banter between one another. The larger narrative has me intrigued, and I'm looking forward to puzzling out this strange mystery with these pooches as the story unfolds. Read Full Review

With Blackwood's first chapter coming to a close this is a fantastic replacement. It'll fill the void quite nicely and really it would be great to get at least one comic a month from Evan Dorkin as he is a talented storyteller with a unique voice. This newest chapter of Beasts of Burden delivers the good stuff so be sure to grab it when it releases. Read Full Review

It's no burden to fall for every beast in this book, be they protagonist or antagonist. The scares are great, the drama outstanding, and the visuals superior. This is perfect reading for fans of horror who think they've read it all. Treat yourself and open this book and marvel at the four legged heroes who battle the supernatural. Highest possible recommendation. Read Full Review

Beasts of Burden: Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men #1 is a charming and engaging beginning to a new magical mystery. There's a lot of charm and wit in the writing, but there's also an underlying darkness to the world and that is what will bring me back for issue #2. The world feels fully realized, the dogs are full of personality and are fleshed out characters, and the mystery is interesting, if not yet quite fully realized. If you're a fan of mystery, magic and mastiffs, then Beasts of Burden may be worth your time! Read Full Review
