The Jetsons back-up was interesting, as well, even though I am not familiar with the Jetsons at all. It was basically a story about euthanasia, but done in a really cool futuristic way, which I don't want to spoil. All in all, Booster Gold/The Flintstones is an entertaining romp that features one of my favorite DC characters wreaking havoc throughout time as he is wont to do. This isn't Ben Caldwell's most poignant scripting, but the story is plenty of fun and deftly visualized by the artistic team. If you buy one of the four DC/Hanna-Barbera crossovers this week, let it be Suicide Squad/The Banana Splits. If you buy two though, this is the other one that you should peel off the shelves. While it is fun to see the worlds of Booster Gold and The Flintstones collide together, this largely feels like a Booster Gold comic. With The Flintstones being a small piece of the puzzle. DC Bring Back Booster!! That being said this issue wasn't terrible but I was expecting more as the Flintstones satire and Gold's wackiness offered a great pairing. The writing was the strongest part of this issue as the interaction between characters was enjoyable and often comedic. The highlight of this book for me was actually the Jetsons sidestory. This story invoked thoughts of the season 3 "San Junipero" episode of the television series Black Mirror. I don't want to give anything else away. I could see the surprise coming, but boy was it an interesting surprise. If you are a fan of the Jetsons, you owe it to yourself to read this.It also made me think of how well the Jetsons futuristic theme could be used to tell interesting stories when presented with maturity, as shown in this issue. Even at its best all we could have expected from these crossovers were some lighthearted fun. For the most part that is what we got, but the use of death was hard to ignore. A lot of morbid situations were just laughed off by the characters and it felt weird because of it. This comic asked to be taken more seriously than it should have. Read Full Review
For someone that has never been that big of a Booster Gold fan, I thought that this crossover was surprisingly good. The Jetsons issue in the back was also very interesting and I feel that it is a good setup for anyone that is interested in reading it when it comes out.
Amazing issue.The humor is spot on and there is even a little message about revenge.My only problem is the art and the flintstones role.The art kinda tries to be cartoony,but it doesn't work.And The Flintstones don't do much.This issue is focusing mostly on Booster Gold,but I still think it's great,because I loved the back-up issue and it focuses on Booster gold soooooo well.I can't wait for the Jetsons and if they make a Booster Gold rebirth series I want Mark Russell to write it.
Such an enjoyable issue! It's more fun than the rest of the series but less thoughtful. Most importantly, we can now consider that the Flintstones are part of the DCU (at least I will).
What a crazy comic. I want to see Crabulon get his own series, he's awesome. The Jetsons story is surprisingly good too, it might actually be worth checking out when it comes out.
Mostly throwaway. Stick with the rich satire of The Flintstones monthly comic.
