"BATMEN ETERNAL" part two! Batwoman has reunited with her father, and leadership of the Colony is in her hands...but should she take it? And if she does, what is she supposed to do about a problem like Batman?
Detective Comics isn't just a flagship title for the DC Comics, it's by far one of the best series they're publishing. If you're reading only one Bat-related title, it better be Detective Comics. Read Full Review
Detective Comics is a book that fully earns its right to exist alongside the other heavy-hitters of the DCU. Tynion and his team have created the Batman equivalent of the Justice League with each member a formidable force and each of them fleshed out and established to the point where the reader really buys in to them. I look forward to seeing how much more darkness can infest our team before the end finally arrives. Read Full Review
As crazy as this storyline is so far, I, like most fans, can't wait to see where it goes next. Read Full Review
Batman Eternal is definitely shaping up to be a memorable final arc for this run of Detective Comics and Tynion is keeping readers guessing exactly how it will end. Read Full Review
I also really, really liked Tim going to Batman for advice, and the two of them reminding me a lot of the classic Batman and Robin dynamic again. However, Armstrong is willing to go further than Tim thought to get him on his side, and we're headed for a tense finale with a lot of unanswered questions. Read Full Review
It was great seeing Tim working with Bruce again, but I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Will he follow Ulysses' path? Has Kate been totally lost to The Colony? Are our heroes doomed to fulfil Bat-Tim's prophesied future? Read Full Review
Batman: Detective Comics #977 continues to up the ante on this story, introducing more dangers and threats lurking in the shadows of the Colony and Gotham itself. The artistic team, despite being oddly large for a comic such as this, puts in great work. Detective Comics gets another recommendation. Check it out. Read Full Review
As James Tynion IV run on Detective Comics is quickly coming to an end, he continues to give the readers' issues that will leave their hearts hurting just a little but letting them wanting more every time. A dark future is indeed in the horizon as Tynion will be moving onto Justice League Dark, but with his love, he has laid out a future that any writer can pick up and run with to continue to give us great issues like James Tynion IV has done. With the future of The Bat-family unclear, EYE has been ready to go into full effect. SLEEP. EYE AM HERE". Read Full Review
This is a well-paced, well-told issue that sets up motivations, shows some big stakes and is just a good read. The art is a mixed bag, but this is still one of my favorite issues of Detective in quite some time and I can't wait for the next issue in two weeks. Read Full Review
I can't help but love a comic when my favorite characters are written well and involved in exciting storylines. Read Full Review
This seems to be an example of some future manipulation of Tim when he is in a very Vulnerable state. I am interested to see how this plays out and just where this goes. I do not think that Tim completely believes Ulysses, but he is at an all-time low. The events seem too conveniently steeped in such current events with the team, to be anything but a manipulation. As far as bleak futures, we have certainly seen worse, so I am left to wonder if this will be a successful gambit when this inevitably turns to be a manipulative trick. Of This I'm sure. The arc is pretty compelling, even if it tickles on some "Days of Future Past" tropes. That said I love the detail in the art, and the story is headed in a fun direction. A strong opening and closing though I have some reservations. Read Full Review
Detective Comics #977 hits a lot of great, fun notes for me, and serves up a dish of drama as well. Tim shines in the issue, but it's "future Kate's" actions that will have you talking, and create a debate on whether future Tim really is out of his mind, or if you feel his actions were justified now that you have context. The downfall of the chapter is Brother Eye, and after Worlds' End and Batman Beyond, I'm ok if Brother Eye goes away for a good while. Read Full Review
As the General tempts Tim Drake, the plot swirls to the next level of complexity as Batmen Eternal continues. Read Full Review
A solid issue, but not as good as issue #976. Read Full Review
In a remarkably story-light issue, the art as a whole fails to impress once again. Tynion is showing us that he doesn't have much to work with since his stories have been very thin since the beginning of the series, so whatever we're seeing is pure padding. Just avoid this while you can and jump back in with June's issues by Bryan Hill. Read Full Review
Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten.
So I’ll be the first to admit, I wasn’t a fan of Ulysses. There was something about him that rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it’s that he’s some punk kid wearing a Batman t-shirt that thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room? Maybe it’s his Tim Drake-stalker look which comes off worse than Robin Williams in “one hour photo”? But honestly, I read the first half of the issue and started to come around to him.
I loved Infinite Crisis and everything to do with it, including Brother Eye, OMAC, even Superboy Prime. Now, I know we aren’ more
I don't know if this is about Tynion IV leaving. About the world of batman turning darker (With Batwoman, Azrael & Batwing in the Colony). About the dark future we see. About Tim & Ulyse. About Brother Eyes. But I didn't enjoy it less than usually.
Cover - I take the variant 2/2
Story - I tired to see traitors in comics book maybe. 1.5/3
Arts - Still great 3/3
Feeling - Mixed ... And I don't know why. And that Bother me. 1/2
But this Issue didn't deserve been under 8.5
An enjoyable continuation of this story that will hopefully pick up in the next issue as we come to a close on Tynion’s run on this book, which has ranged from avenge to awesome...here’s hoping he brings the awesome for the next few issues
This issue doesn't accomplish much, even though it tries. If you, let's say it gently, don't like Batwoman, it'll give you one more reason to like her even less. Aside from that, it sets up new chain of events related to future Tim Drake's appearance from few weeks ago.
I personally found this issue to be a bit underwhelming - serving as neither a moment of reflection for Tim Drake used to develop his character, nor proper set-up of new direction(s) for the main cast.
