DC has plenty of characters who can fill the Spider-Man mold, but right now it's the new Doctor Fate that's getting the job done. This series continues to offer a compelling look at an ordinary young man caught up in circumstances far bigger than he could have imagined. Read Full Review

I quite liked this installment overall even with the problems towards the end. The characters are ones that I want to see really get the time to grow and be something more and I'm hopeful that after this arc is finished that we get to really dig into things in a more engaging way, whether with other known characters or continuing to play by itself. I'm also really hopeful to see more of the supporting cast because I really like the family and the love interests that exist since it has some nice cultural angles to play with as well. These elements combined with Liew's fantastic artwork and layouts that provides it with some rich details and great flow makes it a really great read even when it slows down more than it should. Still, it feels like the type of series that could generate a loyal following if readers give it a chance. Dr. Fate #5 ends with a dramatic cliffhanger, with Khalid blinded, meaning that big changes could be coming to the still-establishing character and series. Read Full Review

If you've read Doctor Fate up to this point, well you're pretty much caught up with the exception of the cliffhanger where something new finally happens....... you know, besides for the whining, disbelief and anti-heroics that we've seen in every issue.  Nothing that we've gotten so far attracts me to this book and I have no idea how this character can ever become interesting.
