The Captain's battle against the forces of the Moon Emperor may orbit the absurd...but it's full of action that will leave you...Apollo? (You can create your own moon pun for the end there, kids.) Mary Marvel joins the fray, the Shazam Family faces the Gods, and a devastating betrayal awaits you in this issue!
Shazam remains a winner and a must-read for DC fans frustrated that comics aren't as good as they used to be. This title keeps answering the call month after month. Read Full Review
TL; DRShazam #5 brilliantly controls the chaos. Read Full Review
With another perfect issue in a so far near flawless run, the creative team delivers one of the best single issues the Big Red Cheese has had in over a decade; one that further bolsters their plans to reinvigorate the title. Read Full Review
This book has been doing a good job of combining the best of old-school Shazam with the new-school status quo, but I'm hoping that when this story is wrapped, we get back to the entire Shazam family teaming up again. Read Full Review
Dan Mora delivers beautifully detailed and visually thrilling art throughout the issue. I love the artistic style on display and how beautifully it balances both action and humor. Read Full Review
Shazam! #5 brings Billy's mystery about his erratic superpowers to a head after a wild but thoroughly entertaining battle on the Moon. The Silver Age-inspired story is a welcome respite from DC's typically glum offerings, and Mora's art is the best around. Read Full Review
After this very messy adventure in space, it's apparent that events are coming to a head in Shazam! and future issues hold even more potential for this indomitable creative team. Read Full Review
Is it possible for art to be more than 10/10? Mora is probably one of the best if not the best artist out there currently but I feel like he outdoes himself this issue. The colour are amazing, the lines are so clean, the details are so perfectly blended with the colour choices... I could go on. I could gush over his art more but lets get to the story...
I burst out laughing this issue to the point I couldn't breath. Its just insane situation followed by situational comedy, good puns and just hilarious panel transitions. Two of my favourite though are:
1)Mary logics out that the gods are messing with Billy. The panel then cuts to the gods hearing this and essentially they all go: ...brah. Laughed at that.
2) All the monk more

This series continues to be one of DC’s very best books. Waid and Mora are a dream team.
A step-up from the previous issue, in my opinion. For whatever reason, this just clicked better with me. Mora's art continues to look very nice on just about every page, and Waid continues to do a nice job of balancing more fun moments with more serious ones. Speaking of which, I'm interested to see what comes of the final page with Freddy.

This just continues to be silly. Mary Marvel saves Billy, though he should be quite dead. Somehow an ape slips and falls on to face - on the moon where there is no gravity. Then the moon spins and Billy stops it with his bare hands. And don't forget the villan puking out a two ton warp drive. Mark, get off whatever you're smoking.
