Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs
It's scary being the new dog.
Sophie can't remember what happened. She doesn't know how she ended up in this house. She doesn't recognize any of these other dogs. She knows something terrible happened, but she just... can't...recall... WAIT! Where's her lady?
A five-issue Don Bluth-style suspense thriller by My Little Pony comic artists TONY FLEECS and TRISH FORSTNER, STRAY DOGS is Lady and the Tramp meets Silence of the Lambs.
Stray Dogs #1 could be read as an almost perfect short story. The build-up and little hints dropped get the brain juices flowing with the last panel delivering that gut punch of oh no! Given how impression this debut issue is, its going to be hard work to deliver this standard over the course of the arc. However, I for one have a feeling Im going to heartily enjoy testing that out. Stray Dogs is sure to be a series that appeals to several fandoms and reach the hearts of fans. It is such an interesting story so far and we are only in the first issue. I look forward to every bit of this story. Read Full Review
Stray Dogs is a delightful story in contrasts. The best of the good dogs have to solve a mystery, and I'm all in from the moment it starts. Read Full Review
Stray Dogs #1 is so unexpected it's incredible. Image Comics does it again, and I am chomping at the bits for the next issue! Read Full Review
If you’re in the market for a new suspense book, Stray Dogs is the book for you, it's a fantastic premise and the art is gorgeous and adds so much weight to the thrill of the story. Plus there are some amazing variant covers, like the Blair Witch and Silence of the Lamb homages that you should definitely check out. Read Full Review
Overall, Stray Dogs was a great, out-of-nowhere surprise package that mainstream comics could use more of. Have a look through all the variant covers (unusual for a trade) and try to get your hands on the one you like best. Read Full Review
Ill say again, STRAY DOGS is intended for mature audiences. While any real violence is minimal, whats seen on-panel can be a bit jarring, and the dark undertones throughout are definitely not for kids. If youre looking for something new and unique from the usual superhero fare, or if youve ever just wondered what Lady and the Tramp would be like with the tone of True Detective, then definitely give this a read. Its an effectively creepy and entertaining first issue that kind of messed me up, but in all the best ways. Read Full Review
Stray Dogs #1 is better than even I expected it to be, pairing a sinister mystery and compelling characters with a classic and expressive visual aesthetic. It's not something that comes around every day, and if enjoy trying new twists on classic comics premises, this should be at the top of your list. Read Full Review
Dont sleep on this shockingly brilliant, and incredibly witty mystery comic series. Four paws up! Read Full Review
Forstner delivers some beautifully detailed art in this issue. The style is perfect for the characters and mood and does a brilliant job of luring in the reader and holding interest while showcasing some disturbing imagery that enhances the mystery. Read Full Review

Stray Dogs #1 is probably not an issue you want to pick up when you have no idea what's going to happen in it. But if you do know what to expect? (i.e. Maybe don't let your kids casually pick up this series). It's absolutely worth the read. It'll break your heart and chill you to the bones, and leave you curious to see what is going to happen next. Read Full Review
BGCP are a little late to the party with the early 2021 release, but there is a satisfaction binging a whole mini-series and from the amazing reviews and feedback I'll have all five reviewed and live within the week. It's a strange phenomenon that appeals to dog lovers who enjoy a good murder mystery. Read Full Review
'Stray Dogs' is something unique and special. It's what makes independent comics great. This reimagined kids aesthetic turned into a sinister drama made for adults is the type of kick in the pants the industry needs and helps keep comics fresh and exciting. This is a great remix of suspense and cartoon talking animals that has more in common with 'Charlotte's Web' and 'Animal Farm' than any G-rated fare. 'Stray Dogs' is a refreshing Hitchcockian tale made to unnerve you while disarming you with some fantastic art. Read Full Review
Writer Tony Fleecs takes us on an intriguing journey with this debut issue. Stray Dogs may catch your eye with its Disney-like style, but it will grab you with a riveting and shocking story that will keep you coming back for more. Read Full Review
Despite the cute characters this is not a book for kids and maybe not the faint of heart who just want totally happy stories with dogs. Read Full Review
When all is said and done, Stray Dogs #1 delivers an interesting, if perplexing, beginning to its tale. Where it plans to go from here is totally beyond me, but that promise of the unknown may be just what someone looking for something new to read might be thirsting for. Read Full Review
I still want more of Stray Dogs. It's a beautiful but flawed start to the series that's left me pining for more. It's hard to judge Stray Dogs this early, but I'm excited to see where this five part series goes. Read Full Review
There is potential in Stray Dogs, potential that it may yet realize. But this first issue is a disappointing, hollow comic that spends too much time chasing its own tail. Read Full Review
Solid gold!
Great story.
Really loving the movie covers.
This was really, really good. The creators obviously love both dogs and horror movies and even though It’s a weird combination, it just works exceptionally well! The story and the art just mesh wonderfully. They do a great job at getting the right personalities for the dogs. Honestly, can’t wait to read issue 2
Story: Great
Writing: Great
Pencil/Ink: Meh*
Layout: Good
Color: Great
Lettering: Good
*Pencil/Ink: Entirely personal preference. It's well done but a bit too Saturday morning cartoon for me.
The perfect contrast of cute, cartoon dog characters undermined by an unnerving atmosphere of horror and intrigue.
