The Final Fight of GANG WAR starts here! The biggest and most brutal battle in Spider-Man history starts now, so batten your hatches!!! If you thought you knew what Madame Masque or Hobgoblin or Beetle or Diamondback was capable of, THINK AGAIN!
Amazing Spider-Man #43 is brilliantly balanced. It’s a comic focused on action and characters, not placing more importance on either. Read Full Review
Amid a raging battle filled with epic confrontations, Amazing Spider-Man #43 celebrates the importance of friendship, family, and the need to recognize who we are. Read Full Review
The final battle has arrived! With Spider-Mans allies the only thing standing in between Masque and Beetle, its anyones guess who survives. Wells sets things in motion with solid writing. Romita and the team bring the high-level fighting to life with an emotional pause when needed. Expect a monster finale from the events of this chapter. Read Full Review
Through no immediate fault of its own,Amazing Spider-Man #43 feels like an overly-rushed race to the "Gang War" finish line. But taken on its own strengths, it's a strongly executed comic with action that charges off the page and reminds readers why superheroes and the ne'er-do-wells they punch are evergreen. Amazing Spider-Man #43 delivers the action goods in the penultimate entry to the Gang War event. The action is fast-paced, energetic, and exciting. That said, Spider-Man is barely a side character in this event, so readers who aren't fully invested in the success or failure of Beetle and Madame Masque will be left unsatisfied. Read Full Review
There are individually excellent elements, specifically the final focus on Tombstone and Beetle, but the issue itself fails to hold up this climactic battle with nearly two-dozen tie-ins structured around it as a significant event. Read Full Review
This issue is probably the highlight of this event so far; it was a nice, brisk read and it felt good all around but none of the emotional/serious material lands in any meaningful way. The connection to the characters just isn't here. This event would've worked better as a more modest 5 or 6 issue arc rather than a big crossover event.
I've been harsh on this event, mostly because I just don't care. It's not interesting. I wish I could say otherwise.
One of the best issues of this arc, still not phenomenal by any means. Thought this was some of JRJRs better work, and I’m not a fan of his work at all.
Overall still just hard to get behind. Looking forward to reading Ultimate Spider-Man 2 more than seeing the end of this event.
I definitely liked this a lot more than I thought I would. But don't mistake this isn't a ringing endorsement of this event or even the issue.
Somehow I think Wells tapped into what I praised about his abilities and comparisons to JMS in the first Tombstone arc. Peter's voice is commanding, he feels real and thoughtful, action oriented and willing to take care of what he has must to protect those he cares about and the city. Sounds great. Why then is it only happening in the penultimate issue of an event where he was practically sidelined until now? Even Romita's art popped at least when Spider-Man was the focus. Every other character looked so phoned in it was upsetting.
Not that the "twist" at the end wasn't easily predictable b more
Gang War is still not as good as I was hoping for, but this isn't a bad issue or anything. Romita's art is very hit-or-miss again here. I do think I'm one of the few who doesn't think Beetle's current costume isn't ugly, but I also wish it was better. As for Wells's writing, though, I do think it's good overall. I just wish I was a little more invested in what's going on.
Lots of action with some decent moments sprinkled in. Specifically Tombstone.
honestly came back for this event after Kamala Khan's death in Amazing Spider-Man #26. I have not been th biggest fan of Amazing Spider-Man due to Zeb Wells writing, and the inconsistent tone and humor. Gang War has been a bore to me with bland pacing, Spider-Man not doing much, bland action, etc.
That said, this was the best issue of the event in my opinion. John Romita Jr's art still isnt that good, but I'll take what I can get. Spider-Man is actually doing something for once which is a relief. He's still a side character, but hey. This issue isnt as bad as the previous issues in my opinion.
Same old story that's uninteresting but few good moments to keep going.
Art: 3/5
Story: 3/5
Total: 6/10
I just can’t with this “art”.
