Amazing Spider-Man #9 delivers a moody and introspective chapter that deepens the Hellgate fallout while pushing Peter Parker into uncharted emotional territory. Joe Kelly balances nostalgia, suspense, and character work in a way that feels both familiar and refreshingly raw, though some uneven artwork and thematic dj vu slightly dull the impact. The Amazing Spider-Man #9 has excellent art and realistic character choices, but is held back by gaps that feel as though they are meant to be intentional, but leave the reader confused. Read Full Review
Amazing Spider-Man #9 does a lot to continue the progress we've been seeing throughout this series. The way Joe Kelly and Michael Dowling utilize Spider-Man's loss to Hellgate helped drive up the growing in investment for Peter Parker's personal life. It leads to the ending creating intriguing questions around the choices Peter is shown making throughout this issue. If it wasn't for the continued questionable writing of Mary Jane Watson's character this would've been the best issue of this volume of the series. Read Full Review
The Amazing Spider-Man #9 is a bizarre pivot from the tone of Joe Kelly's run thus far, flowing in a broken stream from the previous issue with an all too familiar sense of self-pity that has been the subject of this title for years on end. That being said, the script's strange nature is also to the issue's benefit, crafting a much more intriguing tone and story than the arc had previously laid out. Read Full Review
Amazing Spider-Man #9 is a decent issue with some good character moments, but it is not a perfect comic. It succeeds in showing the emotional weight of being a hero, but struggles with pacing and has some inconsistent art. The writing is solid and the creativity is there, but it feels like a setup issue for something bigger to come. Read Full Review
Nice
A blast. Joe's Spider-man is just fun.
This felt like the least Joe Kelly issue he has made in a while. It's not a bad thing at all, I enjoyed this a lot. Maybe it just showcases how much I have underestimated him and his range these past years. Art is amazing.
As for spoilers, I believe the popular theory that the "Peter" we see is Ben. There are so many clues that it's hard not to. But I am still interested how this happened. I wish we finally get a good Chasm story.
It's a shame how different this is than the Pepe issues. I thought this book was just ok. We just dealt with mopey Pete in the 8 deaths. I was actually more interested in him actually working at his job, but that's clearly done with after this issue.
Miserable Parker. Again. Everything goes wrong. Again. The decline of Spider-Man comics in the last 3/4 years seriously needs to be studied. It’s depressing.
Didn't we go through a similar story very recently? Am I losing my mind???
The art is an improvement, but the writing is going nowhere. This phase in Peter Parker‘s life feels like an alternate reality to me and it’s just not enjoyable seeing him like this.
Maybe I’m missing something. Why does everyone write Peter like this now. And what was the point of that flashback. This issue was my least favorite of any of Joe Kelly’s so far. Guest artist wasn’t too bad tho.
We just tried this Peter who refuses to talk to anyone in the filler arc when he filled in for Dr. Strange and at the start of the Wells arc. It didn’t work those two times but here we are again. Peter would never do that to MJ.
Loved that JRJR wasn’t the artist.
