OverallI continue to look forward to this comic each month. I enjoy how Matt Murdoch is narrating what is happening and also like how he is looking to justify his actions when he is in the Daredevil Costume. Of course, he would not be able to treat crooks in the same way as Daredevil does if he were a copper as there are rules. Read Full Review
Saladin Ahmed, German Peralta, and Jesus Aburtov create an issue that will take the "man without fear" and put him on the run as he deals with choices, devils, and Bullseye. The issue will fill you with suspense and tease as you wait for the big confrontation. Awesome insights into Murdock's mind as he deals with being a holy man who dresses as the devil but fights for the truth. Read Full Review
Peralta delivers blisteringly beautiful art in the issue. The visuals are stunning and filled with great details and action. Aburtov delivers a fantastic color palate that captures the eye, especially with the characters. Read Full Review
Daredevil #4 provides consistent work for the series while still pushing great characterization of Matt as he balances his life as a devil and a priest. Read Full Review
Unfortunately, after a visually gripping debut in the series' opening issue, the latest demon gets wiped out almost surprisingly easy. Hopefully that doesn't become the trend. Read Full Review
Daredevil #4 leans heavily on the action, light on Father Matthew's exploits as the head of an orphanage, and completely away from the mystery of Father Matthew's resurrection. On the whole, the issue is relatively entertaining simply for the action, but the lingering mysteries don't have enough clues or punch to hold your attention. Read Full Review
Daredevil #4 appears to be coming to a grinding stop. The plot threads arent panning out. The pacing is way too slow. The demonic undertones currently dont seem to fit. The Father Matt angle seems almost pointless. And the one saving grace was the re-ignition of Bullseye which came and went faster than you could say his name. My point is that this series, the style, the lack of excitement, and the slow pacing seem incredibly uncharacteristic of Ahmed as a writer and Daredevil as a character. Therefore, if it doesnt turn around after the next issue, I think I may have to call this series quits. Readers need a hook and they need it fast! And if it doesnt happen soon, I think this series may be short-lived. Read Full Review
Exciting chapter with an intense and exciting narrative rhythm.
Art
It is an art full of textures that elevate the details, where the dynamism of the Daredevil fights are exciting, added to the tone of terror that covers everything.
Summary
Daredevil is on the trail of Bullseye, who is about to carry out a key murder for the group The Heat to control Hell's Kitchen.
I just wanted to start this off by saying that, as much as I've enjoyed Aaron Kuder's art in this series so far, Germán Peralta did great here. I think he would be a really good rotating artist with Kuder for this run. As for Ahmed's writing, it continues to be very interesting. I believe his pacing has been good throughout the series so far and in this issue as well. The only thing I felt a little "off" about was Matt basically performing an exorcism on Ben at the end. I didn't dislike it or anything, but I didn't love the execution either. Though, this was a good issue in general.
I told myself I'd be a little less forgiving if things didn't start going in the right direction. This book was actually alright. I don't mind taking time to deliver answers, but the Demon part just felt a little rushed in this issue. It had some fun action and a brief Bullseye scene, but the issue took some time to get moving.
This has been a puzzling series so far, raising interesting mysteries that are suffering from the format of monthly releases. Like Charles Soule’s run, people want answers NOW, and it can be frustrating having to wait like this. I for one am quite confused on several fronts, specifically why Ben doesn’t recognize Matt. Is it because of the demon, or funky business with Matt’s new identity?
Still, there are a lot of individual elements that I like about this run, but the pacing is starting to drag.
Peak Bullseye when he spits his teeth and uses it as a weapon
The storyline is slowly starting to grow on me, however…there are still a lot of unanswered questions…ie. How does nobody recognize Matt Murdock, ex-Mayor, lawyer for superheroes, etc???? And if Matt has regained his memory, HOW HAS HE NOT REACHED OUT TO FOGGY YET!?!
Bland and weak. Is this The Exorcist now?
I am REALLY tired - not to mention offended - reading another issue or "Father Matt, Exorcist Priest." Trading in his billy club for a crucifix? Going all in on Catholic gobbledygook? And the bad guys are clones sponsored by the government? Wtf? 3 poi ts for the art. Minus one for the story.
