I don't really get the hate for this series. I'll do my thoughts at the end though.
I thought this was an improvement upon the previous two issues, though this still isn't quite as good as I feel it should be. That said, there is a lot to like here. Apocalypse's section is definitely the highlight, in my opinion. Especially when we got more focus on Wrongslide. I really enjoyed the content we got with him in Al Ewing's X-Men: Red series. Aside from that, the stuff with Cyclops, Nimrod, Charles, etc. was solid, but not particularly my favorite. A lot of this last run of X-books has been a little disappointing, unfortunately. However, I hope the upwards trajectory of this book's quality continues and manages to be felt with all of the other mutant books currently, as well.
It's a good story, but it could be told much better than this.
willing to speculate that Charles's deal is a trick for Nimrod so I wouldn't say this is out of character - yet, but yeah giving us a text page...Marvel if you're trying to get into the light novel business, you're doing it wrong lulz
It was one of the better Fall of the House of X issues. It's still not perfect, but I atleast felt the urgency in this issue. Even if for a few moments.
The latest installment of Fall of the House of X had all the makings of a thrilling pentultimate issue, but unfortunately it prioritized quantity over quality. The issue felt like a rushed sprint from one set piece to the next, leaving key moments underdeveloped and lacking the emotional resonance they deserved.
One of the big missteps was the handling of Apocalypse's story. To save a dying Krakoa, he begins a new version of the Crucible, which had the potential to be a powerful and poignant moment acting as an homage to the early days of this era. Instead, it was weighed down with too much dialogue and underwhelming art. Similarly, the utterly consequential deal between Xavier & Nimrod was relegated to a data page. A total cop-o more
The final story of the Krakoan Era of Hickman's X-Men series is slowly turning into Game of Thrones Season 8, Star Wars the Last Jedi, and Josstice League where someone else tries finish Hickman's end goal. I may not be a fan of Hickman, but at least I would like to hear it from his own terms. Nimrod and Xavier's resolution is literally in a data page, which is disappointing, and Xavier is acting a bit irrational.
Not good at all. And what's up with Xavier making a deal with Orchis to allow them to do what they want to humans as long as they spare mutants? Who is this character?
It's a pity. The Krakoan era was a big exciting addition to the X-Men mythos and the story had been built up since 2019, only for Duggan to ruin the payoff at the end. It would have been much better if this title was given to Gillen as well, since his side of the fall of Krakoa is really good.
Regardless of what you think of the Krakoan age it deserved a better ending than this. Duggan's ADHD mess of a script for this issue falls completely flat when providing any emotional resonance. Huge, consequential parts of the story happened off the page? Seriously? Add inconsistent and muddled artwork and it defies logic as to why Marvel can justify the now regular $4.99 for these issues. Do better Marvel, from the outside it appears the wheels are starting to come off.
