Outstanding on every single level. The art alone is beyond words. This is the story i dreamed about reading as a lost little boy when I got a crumpled up coverless copy of Superman. The year as I recall was 1967 and that started my love affair with space , comics , stories and art. Today I fell in love with Superman all over again and that I'm glad to say is why I suppose he exists at all. So little boys like me can grow old but never grow up. A great, exhilarating, fun comic. Written by a writer whos been on thus rodeo track before. Drawn by an artist in his prime and knowing exactly what he wants and colored by a colorist in perfect unison.

Everything here works. It doesnt strive to reinvent the wheel but it does strive to give you a good time and it exceeds in doing so. Im not concerned about any of the changes til I see how they affect the story. As they are they don't bother me. Bring more of this! more

Great first issue!

Enjoyed the title. Scott is writing another story based on personal fears and worries, but this time those fears are also through the lense of his own children. A modern story that links this young Bruce being shaped by a different type of trauma.

Scott is turning the Gotham we know upside down but it still feels relatable as the place we've known over the last 85 years.

I didn't know Nick's work at all before this. Scott, in an interview, described the style as a cross between Mazzucchelli and Manga.

Nick, in an interview, explained how a trip to Japan heavily influenced his style and designs in this book.

I'm enjoying the sequential storytelling and the way the action is broken down into such kinetic energy... those speed lines and camera angles are fabulous!

I also enjoyed the way Bruce's reveal twist was handled, not once, but twice. Very cinematic.

If there is one critique, it's the colors. The original B&W artwork losses its dynamic kinetic energy when the colors wash over all those glorious speed lines!

Strong start

Nothing much to say that hasn't been said but there is something comforting about reading a good Snyder Bat-book after so long. It's damn near perfect. A wonderful introduction into a new version of Batman that already feels fleshed out. I can't wait to see more from all of the characters in this interpretation.

Absolutely brilliant. For those disenfranchised with the Chip Zdarsky run, look no further. An intelligent and brutal Batman. I cannot wait to read more.

Now that is a comic book. Wow! I'm all in.

Absolutely brilliant. Great art, great writing, great setting and plot, one of the best first books I've read in a while.

They say you should never return , they say your never good enough , they say nobody can write like they used to. Me I say as a man that has watched and read Batman for 57 out of my still going 60 years that bring it on people. This is the Batman I once dreamed about reading , this is the Batman that makes sense , this is Batman. Sometimes in life giving something 10/10 is an insult to 10...........next the Joker.......I'm counting the days.......JM more

Believe the hype! 

Absolute Batman is 100% what everyone says it is, easily one of the best comics I have read in a long time. Snyder delivered the goods with an assist from artist Nick Dragotta (who I am now a huge fan of). This was an excellently paced story … not too fast and not too slow - it was literally perfectly paced. The choice to reveal this new character …no this is NOT the Batman you are familiar with … Snyder used an outside character to reveal Bruce Wayne to the audience … and this was a brilliant decision on his part. That one factor pulled EVERYTHING together into a “page-turning highly” enjoyable read.

Snyder took everything you know about Batman and turned it on its side for a brand new experience that had a tinge of familiarity. He reformatted many of the villains and other Gotham citizens into all new characters that have completely different relationships with Bruce and the book is all the better for it. I don’t want to spoil a single moment as the less you know the better.

The only drawback that I can see is what’s coming next … this world built for Absolute Batman should be just for Batman … but I know Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman will connect with this title and I feel that has the potential to throw off this perfect vibe. Even worse - this may all be rolling into that silly Darkseid story that was introduced in the All-In Special, if that’s where all this is going - I will be very disappointed. However for right now - if you can find a copy go out grab it and read it … do not let it be spoiled for you. more

Honestly the most enjoyable batman read for me in a very long time. I love everything about this new take on Bruce Wayne & his new outfit is so badass! Alot of brutal action and I can't wait to read more. This first issue was a 10/10 for me.

I'll admit, I was not looking forward to reading this issue. I just don't really think Ra's Al Ghul is interesting, at least not usually. But this is great. It turns out when you don't make Ra's a one note old man who can't get over his grandson's lineage, he can actually be kind of cool. I think what helped is that we get Ra's Al Ghul's perspective. We see why he's so motivated, instead of that being taken for granted. I know this issue will probably get a lot of hate because climate denialism is a popular pastime among the stupid, and this issue really isn't subtle about where it falls on that issue. As always, they should be ignored. The art is great, as well. It's Ivan Reis, so that's no surprise.

Overall, I'd call the One Bad Day line a success. Some issues weren't so good, but I feel like others will go down as must-reads for their respective characters. Once you get past the sort of cynical, corporate fueled nature of trying to sell out on the back of a single, very over-played story, you can see that there's plenty to offer in most of the issues. more

This was absolutely phenomenal! I was blown away by this book as both the writing and artwork were brilliant! This is storytelling at it's finest with art that matches the tone perfectly. I'm a huge batman and ra's al ghul fan and was really looking forward to this issue and it was better than I ever could have guessed. Absolute brilliance!

This is probably my favorite Ra's story ever. Really great stuff.

Phenomenal artwork (some of the best I've seen in a Batman issue for quite some time) & a great Ra's story made this a very enjoyable read. My favorite of the 8 issues in the One Bad Day miniseries. Definitely pick it up and ignore the negative reviews just because it has some stuff about climate change in it.
