I was sceptical with these comics placing themselves right after the events of Forces, but this is surprisingly refreshing. Tails is written really, really well here, which is something Forces cannot say for itself. For example, his fear of losing Sonic again here is beautiful. Seeing this duo work so well together is really, really nice too!

Amy is written very well here too. I'm not a big fan of these characters still being all "commanders" and things, I prefer when their characters aren't like that, but I can't complain because it just makes sense after Forces. Apart from that, Amy is pretty perfect, I wish she was more like this in Frontiers and Crossworlds. Her crush on Sonic actually still exists here! Still not the biggest fan of Sonic in IDW though. I'm pretty sure that Ian Flynn has confirmed he's writing this Sonic for Roger Craig Smith's Sonic and that seems to be the case. He's too much of a hero for me, and while some issues he shines, issues like these, he's just annoyingly cocky, and doesn't really feel like my Sonic. Don't know why I've written these thoughts on this issue, because his avoidance to want to be with the Resistance is very Sonic.

Once again, a big fan of how Knuckles is treated here. This is another one of those characters that had been very disrespected in the way he was written in the games for years around when this came out, so this would've been a great breath of fresh air. Rough and Tumble feel like characters I shouldn't like, but I do. They're so silly, it's entertaining. I'm fine with them only appearing in these comics though.
Also, this issue provides context to why the wisps are in Forces in the first place, something that game doesn't do. It's nice!

Ehhhh, not the biggest fan of Sonic here. Tangle is another character I find really annoying, but I don't dislike her. Blaze is nice to see too! This issue is just like the others though, it's fineeee

I really, really like this issue! This is when this arc starts to get really good in my opinion. Seeing the Chaotix is awesome, and I love their interactions with Sonic, and then we have Mr Tinker. It feels like an idea for Eggman I wouldn't like, but it doesn't overstay it's welcome, and I like how it affects things in later issues down the line. It's very interesting, it's cool!

Oh God, here we go. IDW Shadow. I'm pretty certain the way Shadow is written is SEGA's fault, not Ian Flynn's, and Ian Flynn has proved he CAN write Shadow either way due to Shadow Generations. Shadow is written as a terrible sterotype, someone who's really "emo" and unhealthily independent and ugh, it's just not Shadow, it gets really bad during the Metal Virus arc. DESPITE all that, this issue is still super fun. Seeing Sonic and Shadow go against each other's ideals and ideologies is very interesting. I love when Sonic compares Shadow's past to his current self, proving how "Mr Tinker" is as deserving of an apology as Shadow has.

Such a simple issue, but still super amazing. Rounds up everything nicely.

This would be an 8 or an 8.5 but the writing for Shadow here is fucking atrocious
