"Mother's Day" part one! Talia al Ghul returns for her son Damian, whom she trained from birth to be an assassin. With the evil in Robin's past finally revealed to Superboy, it might be too much for the Sons' partnership to survive...especially when the boys find out her next victim is one of the most important people in their lives!
Super Sons has always struck me as a series dedicated to bringing two different worlds together. Seeing how Jon is exposed to yet another aspect of Damians shows that there are still many stories that could be told regarding how disparate yet alike they are as people. Even though theyve encountered dire circumstances before, Talia introduces something that is still new and striking for Jon, but that also appears to be something Damian really did want to be kept secret. These two boys continue to try to find the balance between the ordinary and the fantastic, and this story is going to challenge that dynamic. Read Full Review
Every issue of this comic is engaging and I enjoy how the story and relationships continue to build. Read Full Review
Considering that this issue is really just a set-up for the storyline about to start, it reads very well in and of itself. A lot of fun, promising more to come. Read Full Review
I'm glad to see Damian and Jonathan get to live out the normal parts of childhood after twelve issues of all the super heroics. I'm glad to see Talia al Ghul back in the fold. The series exudes joy, and I'm here for it. Read Full Review
Whether the title is coming to a close or not, this issue is fantastic. The friendship between Superboy and Robin continues to develop. Hopefully we won't have to wait long for their adventures to continue. Read Full Review
Super Sons new arc has a lot of promise and should be another highly entertaining chapter of one of DCs must read books. Read Full Review
Super Sons #13 is a good beginning of the, showing that a book can be darker without losing its sense of humor. This book needs to come back as it was the breath of fresh air in the comic book industry and as in every review for this series (DC: This is supposed to be a cartoon, you are aware of this right? Thank you!). Pick this series up, you will not regret it! Read Full Review
This last arc is shaping out to be a good family-building story that I hope knocks it out of the park before Super Sons comes to its very early end after issue #16. I am very sad to see this series ending as it was easily one of my favorite Rebirth titles. Peter J. Tomasi promised we would see the boys again soon, not including the Hanna Barbera crossover the boys will have soon. I believe Tomasi will give this title the send-off that it deserves with this last arc, and this issue was definitely a good start to the end. Read Full Review
"The Parent Trap" part one! Talia al Ghul returns for her son Damian, whom she trained from birth to be an assassin. As far as character development, the dialogue between Damian and Jonathan continues the continuity set in previous issues. Damian is planning and leading; Jonathan is working hard to fit in. What this issue adds, and what is most entertaining, is Damian's connection to the League of Assassins. Read Full Review
Super-Sons is up and down a lot, but when it's on its game, it's one of the most fun titles DC puts out. Read Full Review
Another great issue, fun, entertaining, and gorgeous. So, of course, the book is being cancelled. Thanks to the creative team for giving me a book I looked forward to reading every month! Read Full Review
Super Sons #13 was the perfect start to a new story arc. This new plot is one that you can sink your teeth into and it was only a matter of time before Jon truly began to understand who his friend is. We don't see much of this conflict hurting the Super Sons' partnership from the discovery, though the discovery at the very end of the issue just might be the push needed. Read Full Review
Super Sons #13 is a charming and absorbing tale depicting how the two children of the Worlds Finest get along. The interactions entertain, the conflict is smartly constructed, and the art is great. This one gets a recommendation. Check it out. Read Full Review
Super Sons #13 keeps up the legacy of pitch perfect characterization and solid artwork that have been a hallmark of the book since its debut. It has humor, heart, and action, something this book has been continually bringing.. Bringing Talia in lets readers see Damian in a new way and this story has the potential to sow some discord into Jon and Damians relationship. Its not perfect, and this story arc could go either way, but if you havent given Super Sons a try yet, this is a perfect place to start. Read Full Review
While not normally a fan of Carlo Barberi's exaggerated style, it turns out that said style is much better-suited to a book featuring younger heroes. Barberi brings a cartoonish sense of energy to the page, and only occasionally do his oddly proportioned figures become distracting. Read Full Review
A beautifully drawn issue by Carlo Barberi, Art Thibert, and colorist Gale Altaeb is diminished somewhat by the feeling that we have all been here before with this story. Read Full Review
Now that the series is ending, this is pretty bittersweet. Once again the boys' interactions and friendship are more than enough to sell the book, and some great art doesn't hurt things either. It's a relatively low-key issue, but strong in the way Super Sons is at its best. Here's to a memorable meeting between their mothers, an ever-strengthening friendship between the boys, and for the series as a whole to end on a high note. Read Full Review
If you have fallen off Super Sons (like me and haven't read anything since the annual) or have never picked up this series, then Super Sons #13 is a great spot to either jump back on or to start reading the series. The new story arc seems like it is going to be a lot of fun and bring these characters to different places. You may be a little lost if you have never read the series, but as long as you know a little about the DC Universe you should be okay. The art,for the most part, is pretty solid and Tomasi continuesto make this series a delight to read. Read Full Review
While I would like Peter Tomasi to give us more of his New 52 Damian magic in this book, I love Jon and this issue had some really good moments that made me smile. It's a real shame if the cancelation talk is true, because I am still waiting for this book to really get started and this issue seemed like I was finally going to get my wish. Read Full Review
Overall, some humor and great artwork help to make this opening issue of the Parent Trap arc an entertaining one. Read Full Review
This story disappointed me greatly, which is unfortunate due to the book's upcoming cancellation. The art is good but not good enough to support the light and regressive story. Read Full Review
I love this new arc so far and I'm hopin' this series ends in a strong note since I heard it's ending on issue 16.
Let's start with the name of the school.... West-Reeve. Come on!!! That's awesome!!! Nice way to pay tribute to Adam West and Christopher Reeve. Nicely done! Loved it!
Now, I know you can pick on this issue since Talia is here and is supposed to be in that prison city that people can't get in or out unless they are Batman and cat woman..... BUT.... come on. Haters are gonna hate. Continuity can't be perfect. AND it's not a huge continuity issue. So Talia must have escaped somehow... check!
The issue was fun. And, if you change a few words like "kill" to "hurt" you could probably read this to some young ones!!! My boys love it!!!
I'll be honest, I didn't see the ending coming and it's so obvious... I feel lik more
👍
After adventures on a different, living planet and future Tim Drake centric crossover event, Supersons return to exactly what makes them "super" to me. It's a fun issue, focusing on both normal, daily life of Jon and Damian, and their superheroing. There's some real bonding scenes between the two, some mystery involving Talia al Ghul (who may be a wonderful side character), as well as solid build up for what's to come in this arc. I look forward to see what's going to happen - especially after seeing series returning to its peak form. It's definitely one of this week's highlights.
Admirable work by Barberi, but I am definitely comparing it to Jimenez. Lacks the one-liners that made this a top-tier comic before...sorry to see it is ending but hopefully it means big things for these little characters!
