THE MIGHTY THOR #21 sees the rise of a new, violent Thor as the Ultimate Mjolnir is finally claimed. Destruction reigns across the realms as Odinson tries to save Jane Foster. Jason Aaron tells a story of violence begetting violence, aided by Valerio Schiti's bright and clear artwork. Read Full Review
Is it weird to have a crush on Volstagg now? Since picking up that hammer he's kind of become babe material. Read Full Review
Another masterful job on Aaron's part giving us an entertaining introduction to what could have ended up being a dull, lifeless character while leaving us salivating for the almost certainly impending throwdowns. Read Full Review
The War Thor is loose and, as this issue proves, heaven help anyone who stands in his way. Read Full Review
Readers may be questioning whether this series really needed a third Thor, but this issue makes a pretty strong case for "The War Thor." He's a very different sort of thunder god, one whose worthiness is measured less in valor or noble deeds but in his ability to punish evildoers and draw buckets of blood. Read Full Review
Nearly perfect, very exciting, but felt brief.
Best issue of the series in a while. War Thor!!!
War Thor is a Badass
The War Thor saga continues from Thors 1-5 and Unworthy Thor 1-5 and it does not disappoint
About halfway through, I was wondering if anything of actual merit was going to happen in this issue. A lot of splash pages (although with gorgeous art by Dauterman)in the first half of the issue, but we get a great interaction between Odinson and Jane Foster towards the end. Jason Aaron has left no doubt how his run of Thor will end, now it's just a matter of sitting back and enjoying the final stage.
The change in Volstagg has been a bit jarring for some, so this issue serves as a bit of an explanation. Corruption from power is a common thing in the Thor comics so we should have seen it coming. That same corruption theme is what is bringing Jane closer to death each time she becomes Thor. That need for power is also what drives the Odinson. There is a lot of fun themes that Aaron is playing with. I am really excited to see where this tale leads because it has been a great journey.
The War Thor saves Nidavellir and then lights out for "go too far" territory. The cover and solicit *lie,* this is no team-up, Odinson and Thor don't show up until the final pages. Valerio Schiti's art is outstanding and the plot is pretty great. Flaming Jason Aaron uses one flaming word too flaming much to emphasize how flaming annoying the flaming badguys are. The exact word slips my mind.
A lot of ass kicking dished out by Volstagg. I don't get Jane's refusal for magical medical care, it is addressed in the letters page for one of the issues, but not to my satisfaction. Be that as it may, it makes for excellent drama in the last few pages here.
Cover and Soli Lie. They don't team up here.
