It's average...nothing more to add. Why though do 'critics' give it marks of 9.5 or laughably 10? The 'Death of Gwen Stacy' is a 9.5, how can a critic give this the same? Please, explain and let me understand the logic.

Finally - after some 6 years - an issue, of what used to be my favourite comic (yes, I have them all from #1) worth reading. No, by no means faultless but at least it had really(!) good art and a story that actually portrays Marvel characters as themselves...Yes, he's Cap but like T'Challa we all know he's really the Falcon, the Vision as more than a feeble 'love-bot' etc.. I'm encouraged.

Loved it!!

Just wonderful! The art is sublime (hats off to Doug) but what makes it for me is the story and writing. Jim Zub is weaving a beautiful take on 'The Frost Giant's Daughter' and for me this issue hits ALL the right notes. PLEASE, if you have yet to sample the greatness that is this comic, go out and grab an issue; you won't regret it!!!!

This comic is just a joy! Well written, lovely art and just pure escapist entertainment. Whoever is responsible for this remarkable comic and the concept of 'going back to basics' should be lauded. This (its sister publication too) and the Ghost Machine titles have mended my broken marriage with comics. Thank you.

I agree with the criticisms but my score is in the context of what's out there at the moment...and Savage Sword is - along with Ultimate Spidey, Transformers and Conan the Barbarian - a comic that makes me want to read it and (on the whole) delivers when put in comparison.

The art was poor.

Cracking stuff!

Enjoyable!

Quality!

In my humble opinion...truly awful...BUT it might be that I am the problem, and I fully accept that. I'm not in that 9 to 12 age-group this is probably being aimed at, so please take this review as one posted by an admirer of Thomas, Buscema and Adams, of Conway, Shooter, Perez and Byrne of Busiek, Perez and Pacheco, Bendis and Finch...In comparison, the past 6(!) years have been BS...how bloody sad!

Loved it!

Nice.

If you want to time-travel and experience what comics were like in the 70's then please buy this fabulous black and white mag. It's a joy!!

For immediate recycling...I don't know why I gave it a 1...Nice printing!

Solid, and worth a read!...and you can't say that about many comics at present...

Seriously? Our hero is scouring the docks looking for sex and another hero later tells him that's okay. This is now the calibre of person(s) we have as examples to look up to. In the Concise Oxford Dictionary the word hero is defined as: 1. a person, typically a man, who is admired for their courage or outstanding achievements. What's to admire in this sleazy and sordid episode? Pathetic.

>Deep sigh<

Frank Castiglione is the Punisher...Why did Marvel/Disney do this?

?????!!!!!....*

Nice art... but 'why' the disrespect? 70 years of this character's history down the toilet! Have 'creatives' forgotten how to create new characters? Just appalling.

Conan The Barbarian (2023) #3 Oct 1, 2023

BRILLIANT!! No, it's not an innovative and new take on the character. No, it's not a quirky, niche response to ancient stereotypes. No, it's not a startling creative explosion of left-field ideas and experimental art...No, it's just Conan, the barbarian. Written and illustrated by two gentlemen of true pedigree. Mr Zub has a long line of top selling Marvel titles in his C.V. and Rob De La Torre is simply a fabulous artist and only matched on Conan - in the present day and in a different style - by Steve McNiven. For Conan to grab the imagination of the comic buying public you need to stay true to the original tales and always need the best artists. Loved it!!

At last, a decent comic that reminds me why I read 'em. Thank you, Jonathan & Bryan!

It's head and shoulders better than...no, I'm not that person what's done is done...this is decent. Not Thomas, not Busiek, not Stern but a solid start.

It's just really good!

I've defended this run so I thought I'd better give my opinion on this 'most important story'... I thought it was average at best with the art bringing up the score to that. Disappointing! Marvel, as I keep preaching, have a problem and one that is getting worse. The 'Charlie Brown approach' is not working(!!) and does not work for Marvel characters. You can't ignore time and certain events and stories - that have actually occurred in the comics - and then hope that new events and situations are taken seriously. I won't bore you but Marvel needs to 'reset'. I have suggested to them how this could be done without negating 50 years of continuity but would the readers accept that - for example - issue 181 of The Hulk isn't 181 of The Hulk?

6 years...I can't believe it...6 wasted years, and all that money...Some of the art was good in this issue but apart from that...

I've got to be honest...I liked it; the art (love Romita Jr!), the pace, the suspense of what's coming, all of it...but I'm also acutely aware of the poor writer's handcuffs. I'm an older (much) reader and I can't get on board with 'further character development' of a character who in real terms should be in a retirement home...Marvel, has had a problem for years now and decided to go the 'Charlie Brown' route, having their characters ignore the rule of time. The heroes we have now have been sinned against (story-wise) so many times that I don't really regard them as the same heroes I grew up reading the adventures of. DC, with their 'Crisis' events at least acknowledge the problem and attempt to solve the conundrum...Marvel though think that glossing over facts is the way to go, hence the many different versions of 'Peter Parker'; boy genius/life's looser/Avenger/pure girl bait/tech entrepreneur etc., etc... If I now get a story that sort of makes sense, has decent art, moves at pace and respects some of the past cannon of stories I'm more or less happy and this latest offering is better than most of what's on offer from Marvel/Disney...I mean, have you read the Avengers!

"Love, Mephisto. P.S. Haaaaa Ha Ha Ha Haa!!!" ...What a line. Please, please let this end.

Loved it! Alex knocked it out of the park; reminiscent, respectful, innovative and thoughtful...with fantastic* art. * Sorry, couldn't resist.

Not as good as last issue BUT still what a Cap comic should be!

Nearly 50 years and it still gets me! The art could have been a little stronger.

Jason tries soooooo hard...but it just doesn't work!! His current Punisher is great(!) and this issue of the Avengers even has an old fashioned Marvel ending BUT please, please let someone else write this comic!!!!!!!!!! It's been 5 years(!) since someone else held the reins, c'mon Jason give another writer the opportunity...

Punisher (2022) #3 May 31, 2022

Mr Aaron keeps on trying BUT it isn't working. He's just not right for this book and he's dragging it further and further into the depths! He's a good writer; King Conan is good, the latest Punisher too...BUT please no more AVENGERS! 54 issues and still counting on wanting to read one issue twice!!!

No, no, no, no, NO! Comic Watch's Matt Meyer says, and I quote: "Avengers #50 knocks it out of the park on all levels. Don't let the price tag scare you away - this is rip-roaring superheroics at their very best." 'At their very best', he states, and yet he only marks it as an 8.9...What is better than the 'very best'? I like Jason Aarons writing, I do, I can't wait for his King Conan...but he has never, ever, shown that he has the understanding to be even an okay AVENGERS' scribe...It's been 5 years now and he's still trying to win us over, with the sad result that many have turned away from the book. PLEASE MARVEL/DISNEY Save Our Avengers!!!!! I gave it a 5 because the art was good and in the back is a beautifully illustrated Steve Mcviven/Chris Ruocchio story.

That's enough for me...I've collected every issue (Yes, I have a beautiful CGC 6.5 #1) but I haven't been this down about this title EVER (no, not even during the Milgrom days)...I'm out.

Marvel, please get someone to reset/relaunch this title...4 years and I haven't read an issue I wanted to read twice!!

I've given up...Cap never gets ready for a showdown by warming up his knuckles...Read his past appearances in comics, read past issues of the Avengers! This title NEEDS a change of writer...I like Jason, his Thor work was good, his God Butcher arc was fantastic, but he's had over 40 issues of The Avengers and I can't think of a single issue I would call a 'classic'! Imagine writers in the past doing that. I can name 'classics' for Lee, Thomas, Conway, Englehart, Stern, Hickman but still no issue I would read twice in Aaron's run. Sorry to be so negative.

Well Done Marvel!

It's awful!!!! I can't be bothered to go into all it's faults BUT I will just say that this month's nugget is that Thor's hammer knows the Black Panther and won't attack him! Really, I don't think I have to point out how ridiculous a proposition this is and how it would handicap anyone wielding Mjolnir - sorry, I can't resit: The Hammer knows the BP and won't harm him BUT will happily do the evil bidding of its current master...absolute balderdash!!!!!!!

I'm still not sure why but I love it!

Ivan Reis...he's so good! Buy it just for his art.

Fun and harks back to simpler times. Worth a read.

Nice!

Not as Brilliant as the first three issues BUT still more than enjoyable...Isn't great to have THOR back?!

It pains me to write this but after reading this latest issue I couldn't stop myself. The comic opens brilliantly, two super full page shots of Namor and some super writing...sadly it doesn't last and by page 3 we have the embarrassing concept of the 'Davy Jones Saloon' and a veiled reference to the - happily lost in the past - RACIST joke about dogs, blacks and Irishmen!!!!!!!!! I could go on BUT I don't have the time. Sales say it all. This should be one of Marvel's premier books and yet it's not; a strange mix of adult, adolescent and childish themes, humour and ideas...it's a mess! Is this the same Thor who appears in the fabulous new comic by Donny Cates???!!! Please everyone help save this book and tell Marvel what's going wrong.

A beautiful looking book - Ivan Reis is stupendous! This age's Adams (I know you're still around Neal) and the BEST comic artist to regularly grace the interior pages of modern comics...If only DC would let him draw an issue or two of Marvel's Avengers (Can you imagine it, with writing by Al Ewing?) The story is fine, not Bendis' best but better than serviceable(!)and I love the fact it opens with an old fashioned 'splash-page' Well done all!!!

Beautiful cover...and then just an awful comic. I am lost for words. I can't believe I paid $3.99 for this.
