Rated T+
Avengers #11 is warm and welcoming. This chapter relies on reminiscing in a series filled with new characters and endless action. Read Full Review
Any story involving Edwin Jarvis gets a few points to begin with. However, I'm happy to say that this issue would have gotten by on it's own merit. Read Full Review
Fiorelli delivers some great art in the issue. The action is visually exciting and I really enjoy the character designs. Read Full Review
Avengers #11 feels like a classic thanks to the humanizing of its heroes through Jarvis and efficient writing that gets the action and character beats mixed in well. If this issue is any indication, we're in for a real treat with Blood Hunt this May. Read Full Review
Avengers #11 is a delightful side quest and reintroduction for the team's most faithful and beloved civilian ally. Read Full Review
Avengers #11 delivers more of a cool-down story for the Avengers as their oldest friend and ally Jarvis shows up to help. Jarvis is definitely the show stealer here since his personality is well-defined, fun, and he mostly takes over the comic when he shows up, which is nice to see. However, it's a little sad to see the early signs of the comic being forced to put a hold on its own stories to tie into the Fall of X crossover event. And while Ivan Fiorelli's art is good, the action wasn't that thrilling since the Mad Thinker's minions were pretty generic enemies to see the Avengers fight. Read Full Review
As far as one-off stories go, you can't go wrong with an Edwin Jarvis-focused issue. Read Full Review
Plot
The Avengers have a quiet moment and discuss what to do with the Ashen Combine (read Avengers #3-6), this team of villains who are trapped in a prison that has them in a state of stasis. But having these beings in The Impossible City can also be a risk.
On the other hand, Jarvis and his assistant Mr Sweeny arrive at this new base of operations to make it more comfortable for humans, starting by teaching The Impossible City to cook their favorite foods, but suddenly Mr Sweeny feels sick and vomits a team of robots. plastic sent by Mad Thinker.
The battle is of epic scale and they manage to counter the attack as well as imprison Mad Thinker, but this entire attack helped Mad Thinker learn of the existence and l more
Finally MacKay has got a feel for the team and writing to his usual standards. Great balance of character moments, action, levity, and planting seeds for new threats. Glad I gave the series a second chance after being very disappointed early on.
This wasn't the strongest issue or anything, but I thought it was pretty fun. MacKay used this as a way to slow things down a bit and give the characters a chance to catch up with one another in certain regards, specifically the duos of T'Challa & Thor and Vision & Wanda. I understand that the large amount of focus on Jarvis might put some people off, but I found it entertaining.
This was a bit of a step down from the first 10 issues. It's not bad, but it doesn't flow quite so well, and the focus on Jarvis and Sweeney is hit and miss. This issue is mostly about having fun and not so much about progressing the overall plot, before we move into X-territory next issue. It works well enough, it's just not as satisfying as the first two arcs.
This felt like the embodiment of a filler issue. MacKay phoned this one in and it honestly felt like it was just here to get your money and tease "oh the next one is a cross over issue". Its to an event that most will hate so I am skipping the next one. That though made the value of this one rather poor.
Art was good.
Also can for the love of all things Marvel, the writers at Marvel stop spending so much time on food? It is a meme how many of the stories now a days are just people eating or talking while eating or in this case talking about making food for people. Please stop. I hate this.
Art: 3/5
Story: 3/5
Total: 6/10
Not a fan of this series. Sad cause first arc was promising
In my humble opinion...truly awful...BUT it might be that I am the problem, and I fully accept that.
I'm not in that 9 to 12 age-group this is probably being aimed at, so please take this review as one posted by an admirer of Thomas, Buscema and Adams, of Conway, Shooter, Perez and Byrne of Busiek, Perez and Pacheco, Bendis and Finch...In comparison, the past 6(!) years have been BS...how bloody sad!
