Green Lanterns Annual #1
May 30, 2018 |
This annual issue seems unnecessary and a distraction until the next arc of Green Lanterns begins. The plot for the most part is dull with the exception of some action and backstory given towards the end of the issue. The art is rough for the majority of this issue. The next arc needs to begin immediately. |

Batman and the Outsiders (2019) #1
May 13, 2019 |
Batman and The Outsiders has finally arrived and the delay has not damaged the quality of this book. A book starring Black Lightning, Katana, The Signal, and Orphan has potential to be a hit that elevates all these characters. Bryan Hill has crafted a familiar storyline for these characters that involves strained team dynamics and time travel. I'm optimistic that Hill and artist Dexter Soy have plenty of twists and terms to make this a unique book on the market. |

Green Lanterns #44
Apr 4, 2018 |
This issue goes a long way towards furthering the development of Jessica Cruz the person, not just the Green Lantern. Unfortunately, Simon Baz is not given the same amount of shine to develop as a character on his own. I enjoyed Seely digging into Jessica's background and "Deal with the Devil" she is faced with in this issue. Maybe the issue would have been better off as a solo Jessica adventure instead of throwing Simon into a silly subplot. Hopefully this arc integrates Simon more while continuing to shed light on Jessica's past. |

Seely has bounced back from a slow opening issue to this arc, with an issue that answers a lot of questions that I had while addressing some of the concerns I had with the previous issue. Jessica has been described as someone that retreats within herself, and I'm afraid this may be literal for her now. Luckily, Simon is right on her trail. |

With "Ghosts of the Past" completed, hopefully the book can move forward and towards more interesting subject matter. I find Jessica Cruz a very interesting character but this arc regarding her past did not consistently find its footing. The dynamic between Jessica and Simon was strong throughout, but inconsistent and at times ugly art, wordy dialogue, and unnecessary guest appearances bogged this arc down. Despite these issues, I remain interested in the future adventures of Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz. |

After an explosive first issue to this arc teasing a major confrontation between members of the Green Lantern Corps, the second issue in the arc ends the excitement with a whimper. Characters we don't care about take some of the spotlight, and plot threads are unraveled way too easily. The art in this issue is enjoyable, but it is not enough to make this issue salvageable. The inconsistency in this book continues. |

Avengers (2018) #7
Sep 6, 2018 |
Jason Aaron takes a break from the present day Avengers, to revisit the Prehistoric Avengers. Aaron this time focuses on the Prehistoric Ghost Rider. Jason Aaron must have had as much fun writing this issue as I did reading it, especially with his history with the Ghost Rider character. The tragic rise of this Ghost Rider was an exciting and entertaining story, which is a testament to strong writing and art. We probably haven't seen the last of these prehistoric heroes, and their actions in the past will probably continue to have effects on the present day Avengers. |

Avengers (2018) #10
Nov 14, 2018 |
The Avengers celebrate 700 issues with a bang. Jason Aaron, Ed McGuinness, and David Marquez hit home runs when it comes to story, action, and art. Highlights of this issue include a triple threat match between the Avengers, Defenders of the Deep, and Winter Guard. Lingering plot threads are highlighted including what happened to Loki and the prehistoric Avengers. General Ross has recruited his own team of heroes in response to T'Challa being appointed chairperson of the Avengers, and now the Avengers have more problems than a rampaging Namor. |
