Marvel counters declining sales with overpriced issues stuffed with filler. Just say no.

Utter garbage. I almost fell asleep while reading this not to mention the poor implementation of politics makes this for a horrendous read.

america is just awful the introduce of summing up about her is just insulting saying my years of comic are off. they always have to keep saying she is lesbian over and over like we already get it your lesbian. her attitude is more like the attitude of a super villain she is just a complete asshole to everyone. and the writer is trying so hard to love the character but there is nothing to love. i think people are only saying good thing because she Hispanic lesbian character but what people need to look is how she is a hero but she not she is probably one of the worst hero i have ever read she would make a better villain. more

The dialogue is terrible and the art is inconsistent from page to page.
I might have enjoyed this if I was a teeanager, but I found the dialogue annoying and the story was very weak. I will not be picking up the next issue.

Also, how does she not recognize captain America he doesn't age. He looks exactly the same as he did 70 years ago.

"What in the holy menstruation are you doing here?"

Really?

“Holy menstruation” what a terrible comic. I would punch the writer in the face with my “brown fist”.

Gets a 2 point deduction from my actual score just for saying something is better than The Cure. (PS. Nothing is better than The Cure)

Gets a 0.5 point bonus for punching Hitler.



The dialogue goes from incredibly bad to outright cringe-y at times, with its only decent point being the art by Quinones.

I men, you got some gems like:

"What in the holy menstruation are you doing here?"

"Oh for Princess Leia's sake, not you too!"

"Chico, you look mad familiar..."



You also get a terrible author self-insertion, and the author decides to do away with a relationship in the worst possible manner, with America breaking up with her girlfriend because she wants to move away for college, which makes no sense since America's powers include teletransportation!



This comic is so bad, that the more I think about it, the worse it gets and the lower the score I end up giving it.



Surely it will find its fans, just like Mockingbird, Patsy Walker, Great Lake Avengers and other titles have found their fans, just wondering if it will find more fans than the titles I mentioned in order to have enough support and not be canceled 6-8 issues down the road. I mean, hey, maybe this time Marvel will find an audience that actually buys the comic! more

I can't even begin to list everything wrong with the plotting, dialogue, characterization, and art in this issue. Nothing fits together; it's a jumble of non sequiturs and random events. If I had to pick a theme it's the ongoing assumption in the writing that these characters and everything they do is super cool even when it's unearned.

the story though better paced than the first issue, has become boring though consistently bad. the art can't save the comic if it too looks just as dull as the story. dropping the series here. score 0.5 for effort. Marvel, if you're reading this.. WRITE BETTER STORIES! diversity isn't the problem and you can keep your political agenda if you can write really good stories with it, but the way it looks right now, you're more likely to blame readers who don't buy your comics than fixing the problem. more

I initially post rating for most books before writing reviews. In this case, I find myself disheartened looking back at America and the public. Again the most important point the professional critics list in its favor is politics. I do not care about politics. You are not paying four or five dollars per issue of a comic book for politics or an agenda, you are buying a piece of art. Of literature. Those things can be propaganda, but there merit as art/literature is removed from their value to any agenda.



The writing in America is fairly terrible. The author creates straw men for her POV characters to knock down. Never once will you feel a connection to the random antagonists that appear and disappear throughout #2. The plot continues to jump around, never achieving coherence. Being a visual medium, dialogue in comics absent a very narrow genre should be sharp, concise, and snap. That isn't the case in Amurica.



Artwise the book suffers as it can't decide what style it wants.



Overall America is a symptom of a larger problem. As comic companies attempt to listen to people who do not read comics or appreciate their history, they make bad decisions. One of those decisions is to hire artists and writers who neither possess an appreciation of the medium or an understanding of what does and does not make comics of a genre, here superhero, work.



Marvel isn't the first company to look to outside parties to write comics. It is however doing so to an unprecedented level. Lost in all of this is the consumer, someone that deserves better. more

David Gabriel is a moron for saying Diversity is at fault for the Marvel Sales slump; that's not the case, that has never been the case -- I blame bad writing and events, and this comic is a perfect example of bad writing.



Do you want to buy a comic that is basically 22 pages of "How do you do, fellow kids" and "YASSS QUEEEN"? Then this comic is perfect for you -- it's also perfect if you want to torture your brain cells -- because I'm sure some people get their kicks like that



But really, this saddens me. I like MAC, she was pretty badass in Young Avengers and is a total badass that stood up to Captain Marvel in Ultimates during the CWII event -- but this comic? This comic is terrible if you're a fan of MAC, unless you want anything MAC related, no matter how bad it is, then... I guess, have at it? Whatever makes you happy, I guess.

Some of the dialogue continues to be super cringy as well, but less so than previous times, and I'm not talking about the random spanish words peppered here and there.



I'm multilingual, with being fluent in spanish as well as in english (among other languages), and I happen to live in a community with a huge latino population, but they don't speak like America does -- granted, in this case it's Mexicans vs Puerto Ricans -- so maybe Puerto Rican communities in NYC do speak like this, in which case, I cannot particularly blame this comic for this, but I feel like it's worth pointing out.



But now I'm curious, since America seems to say that she might not be Puerto Rican, she just identifies as one because they look like her? Does that mean she's basically Rachel Dolezal? more

I just... Ugh.

I really, REALLY want to like "America," but it tries waaaaaay too hard. The story is all over the place and can't find the proper balance between lighthearted fun and emotional resonance. There's so much happening all at once yet I just can't make myself care.

First of all, why is Storm there? Why is she suddenly best buddies with America? Why must America travel to the past and meet Storm in order to resolve her relationship with the girlfriend who dumped her? What was that cringefest of a subplot with Storm's safe word?!

Second offender: trying so damn hard to connect America to Latino culture. We're basically told that even though she's an alien from a parallel universe, she's totes Latina, and not just, like, Puerto Rican, but all Latin countries at once, guys, and here's some name-dropping of Puerto Rican and Colombian cultural elements to make it sounds legit.

So yeah. Love what they're trying to do with the character in this series, but the writing's just not up to snuff. No me gusta. more

The truth is Comicosity along with other 90% of comic sites and 90% percent of comic book artists working on Marvel books claim anything social justicey, progressive or starring a minority something that is daring and amazing. Well guess what, the real fans ain't buying this shit.
