I may be in the minority, but I think Tamaki is a good writer. Some of that might be due to the Bat editors.
As Gotham’s Dark Knight of vengeance, Batman is seen by many (mostly criminals, let’s be honest) as judge and executioner of the city’s vilest villains. Well, it’s time for him to meet the Jury! In a last-ditch effort to avenge his daughter’s death, Mr. Worth has teamed with the Penguin’s criminal empire, the Party Crashers gang, and the Falcone crime family to form the kind of villain team-up that would leave a Boy Wonder sweating in his booties. Backup: Countdown to Task Force Z: Part One! Deb Donovan is on the trail of some weird happenings in Gotham...missing bodies from the morgue...tales of shady criminal activity the likmore
Detective Comics is another example of character and story triumphing over events. It's proof that it can be just as large in scope and just as significant. The entire creative team is doing a magnificent job of telling entertaining and engaging stories that bring Batman, his allies and enemies and Gotham City to life. Don't miss out! Detective Comics #1041 is a great place to jump on if you aren't already riding this train! Read Full Review
Mora continues to be one of my favorite artists and this issue showcases his command of the character, emotion and details needed to immerse the reader in what is happening to the characters. Robertson does great work with the Donovan story and the style of the art is perfect for its gritty subject matter. Read Full Review
Bruce Wayne may have lost much of his fortune in Joker War, but Mariko Tamaki seems determined to take his situation from bad to worse in this run. Read Full Review
Detective Comics #1041 is a fun little ride that continues to build on this new side of Gotham Tamaki and Mora have shined a light on. The A story continues to take exciting turns while the B story offers an interesting new tale. Read Full Review
Tamaki needs to start wrapping this arc up as its beginning to feel like it will have a lackluster finale is in store before Fear State kicks off. Read Full Review
Detective Comics #1041 was a joy for the eyes and the mind. I keep telling my friends to jump on this book asap. This issue is more fuel for my fire! Read Full Review
After a number of more action-packed city-wide terror type of issues, Detective Comics returns to a semblance of the intriguing status quo change that it promised when this run began so many months ago. Much like Batman, when the normal creative team is together and firing on all cylinders the imagery of Gotham City is dynamic and bold and stylish and beautiful in it's own often dark ways. Look, it's a good comic! This has great action, a sympathetic lead, gorgeous artwork and a strong backup feature. It's just that this comic has some flaws, some of which make Bruce look like an amateur. If that's something you can live with, then definitely pick this up, because you are not going to find better Bat art anywhere else. And if you can't live with that, then still pick this up, because this really does have the best Bat art of all the current Bat books! Read Full Review
Tamaki and Mora provide a strong, atmospheric linking tale between their high octane opening arc and the upcoming Fear State event, giving beautiful art and strong characterization as Gotham prepares to be plunged into war once again in under a year. Read Full Review
Detective Comics #1041 is worth the cover price solely for Dan Mora's fantastic artwork. Read Full Review
The art by Mora of course is fantastic yet again! Although the idea of the Jury could work if set up right, it just doesn't work here and pops up out of nowhere. Although I like having Bruce struggle with his usual luxuries, I like having the Penguin back, and I do like the parasite / Vile part, the whole Worth thing just needs to end. It's awful. This was phenomenal! I have absolutely loved detective of late it has and continues to be one of my favorite books
Helena desenhada pelo Dan Mora fica linda, e eu não consigo dar menos de 9 por causa disso, mesmo que a historia não mereça. Mas a Helena merece.
Feel like this series gets a bad wrap just because tamaki’s name is on it. She’s done a shockingly good job so far and this issue just proves that even more
At this point, I just think people dismiss this comic because Tamaki's name is on it. They shouldn't. It's good. That's all, I have nothing more to say. The backup by Rosenberg is fine, although it doesn't excite me for Task Force Z.
Detective Comics - 8/10
Road to Task Force Z - 9/10
I thought both stories were good. Bruce seems to throw caution to the wind by talking to Oracle on his cell phone in a public place. The Jury appears to be hiring retired Imperial Storm Troopers with poor eyesight. A hail of bullets, and Batman has nary a scratch. Red Hood popping up at the end of the second story was a pleasant surprise. It reminded me of Rorschach's eating habits in The Watchmen.
Are people here judging this issue because Tamaki's name is on this?
I kind of like the setup here, Batman is trying to use whatever resource he can muster. Including the nostalgic Neal Adams Batsuit. But... I have to admit using nostalgia is kind of cheap move. It doubt it's going to stick around. Personally I wouldn't mind a new midnight blue batsuit that use the best elements from Jim Lee and Greg Capullo's batsuits.
As for the characters, I'm seeing plenty of the chaos going around distracting everyone from the answers that're right in front of them. Nakano couldn't figure out that one of his own staff is the one causing most of this chaos. And with the way things are going he'll want to cover it up to save face fo more
A pretty average issue. This Vile parasite thing is getting a bit old though. Especially since I'm not much of a fan of this Dr. Who stuff anyway.
The Jury was far less impressive than they could have been. There was no real trial anyway. It was just an excuse to make Mr. Worth feel he was getting his precious "Justice."
Seeing Batman getting infected by this thing was no real shocking cliffhanger. It's becoming an old as the hills concept, heroes being victim to a parasite that makes them rampaging monsters. I don't know how many superheroes can honestly say that's never happened to them, but I'm sure there aren't many.
Darick Robertson!!! I love him.
Reviewing the first issue of The Jury plotline from Detective Comics. I'm happy to see we're returning to a gangland type of conflict, but I'll be much happier once we're done seeing Vile.

I really, really hope that bandana over Red Hood's head will NOT be a thing in the future because it looks awful and ridiculous. Just no. Other than that, Tamaki's story is still utterly boring. At least we got to see the old costume and some good action drawn by Mora.
Dan Mora's art is perfect, but Tamaki writing is getting really bad, she had a great start but I just want a new writer.
Road to Task Force Z interesting, but the art was not that great
This writer got off to a decent start, but then her writing faded and this is horrible.
the art is spectacular, but the writing just does not interest me at all.
no matter how i try, this story really bores the ever-loving hell out of me.
i'm sure someone out there enjoys this. it's just not grabbing me. pity, because the art is really phenomenal.
This was one of my favorite comics until recently, I don't know why they have dropped it so much giving it to a bad writer. This is painful.
