Stop trolling kiddo
Legendary comics writer Geoff Johns returns to his breakthrough hero, Stargirl, in this special one-shot illustrated by Todd Nauck!
Courtney Whitmore’s spring break plans aren’t like your average high schooler’s. Instead of hanging out with friends, she’s heading out on an adventure with her stepfather, Pat Dugan, a.k.a. S.T.R.I.P.E., and teaming up with his former team, the Seven Soldiers of Victory! The Soldiers are forced to reunite again to unearth the secret eighth Soldier of Victory, but what other secrets lie buried, and what does it all mean for Courtney’s future as Stargirl?
This special was an exceptional primer for Stargirl and the legacy character corner of the Universe. Hopefully it leads to much more from DC in 2021 and beyond. Read Full Review
Stargirl Spring Break Special #1 is the quintessence of everything good superhero comics should be. It is bright. It is hopeful. It honors the past while acknowledging we can be better today in building a better tomorrow. It is also one heck of a read that will leave you wanting more. Read Full Review
This feels like a return to form for writer Johns and his early DC work but still hints at the epic long-form writer he is today with the cliffhanger and reset of character stories back to fresher times. As he diversifies his comic output, it's good to see he still remembers how it began. I don't normally give such high scores to DC characters but this is a clean 100%. Read Full Review
A book created with love for its characters always feels right, and this book feels just that. Read Full Review
Stargirl: Spring Break Special #1 (#DCComics @geoffjohns @ToddNauck @hificolor @thebryanhitch) has Johns writing like classic Johns for the first time in a while as the world prepares for his upcoming Stargirl and JSA books. Read Full Review
Overall, this book has a nice light tone to it and feels like a return to form for Johns and his early DC work before he became the epic long-form writer he is today. As he diversifies his comic output, it's good to see he still remembers how it began. Read Full Review
Stargirl Spring Break Special #1 is a comic that revels in fun. It's a comic that hits all the right notes with the material it presents. It will probably the most fun you have reading comics so far this year. Read Full Review
While you could simply look at this as a fun Stargirl Special, this issue does a ton to bring the Seven Soldiers of Victory into the modern age in a story that allows their timelines to make sense in a world where "Everything Matters". We've got amazing art throughout and a story that sets things up for Courtney Whitmore going forward and even though I would have liked more time and page space to allow the Seven Soldiers to really be fleshed out for new readers, not to mention concepts, I had a lot of fun with this book and look forward to what the future brings with the characters involved. Stargirl: Spring Break #1is nothing like what the title would suggest. While the art style matches a teen drama, the plot is a high-intensity action thriller filled with time shenanigans and severe emotional stakes. It's a good story though with amazing coloring, especially throughout the lengthy final action sequence. Read Full Review
Stargirl: Spring Break Special #1 definitely isn't what fans might be expecting"but that's great. Read Full Review
A well crafted story that rings hollow in just about every way. Oh, but there's a fun Fred Hembeck page! Read Full Review
This book is coated in pre-flashpoint wonderfulness that I just can't get enough of. Please DC, give us more stories that aren't afraid to take place in their universe and embrace all of the history instead of sticking to whatever the movies or TV shows are doing.
Well, Geoff Johns does it again and it really should come at no surprise. As usual, Johns gives us a perfect balance of modern storytelling and nostalgia that left me down right giddy by the time I closed the book. I mean, come on! That last splash page alone made me gasp out loud and yell "what??! It's _____!!"
For a comic book reader that is just getting back into the hobby after jumping off of the new 52 crash, this definitely hit the spot!
Geoff Johns manages to make Star Girl pretty likeable and friendly. Shows why he's the Greatest Modern comic book writer of all time.
Geoff Johns is on fire lately 🔥
Wonderful and fun.
And great surprises for the future :)
With Stargirl's TV appearances, I guess it was a matter of time before she got back onto the comic pages. And what a way to start a new series than with the original Seven Soldiers of Fortune, golden age characters with a story ready to tell. The way Courtney interacts with the other young heroes like Speedy is also something to add since it gives her more room to bounce off of.
Had lots of fun reading this, cannot wait for more, whenever that happens.
A fun and entertaining comic, with some really nice art. My main criticism is that the story is wrapped up a bit too quickly: the pacing isn't quite right. Really, this could have done with being a double sized issue as there was perhaps too much time spent on reintroducing the characters (good as this was) for the main story to have room to breathe. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this, and I'm definitely on board for a new Stargirl series.
I mean I was invested from a Seven Soldiers angle but #NotMySevenSoldiers so eh, this was fine.
Man if only I cared.
Johns is a legend. But this is very boring, probably the worst Johns book I read. Tood Nauck's ugly art doesn't help.
Bland and tailor-made for the lowest common denominator. Why is Johns getting to hold the JSA hostage when there are so many more competent writers again?
lol the cult of johns is mad at me again
